I invested 40,000 rupees in 2008 , that time it was around 42-43/$ , so about $1000. That time i did not know i would be moving to USA. the fund maturity was 2018 and, I held it till 2022 and the same amount was around 83000. Now the $/rupee rate is $80. so its still $1050 . so a gain of $50 in 12 yrs. thats why i dont invest in india.

Since US residents are taxed on worldeode income, they will have to pay tax on NRE interest as well and would end up paying more tax in $ terms year on year basis. Better to stick to FCNR deposits and pay less taxes in US.

Most major tech companies are based in the US. Putting that aside, you can buy properties in the US with as little as a 3% down payment, which is nearly impossible in India. In India, even with a 20% down payment, the high interest rates make it difficult for most people to purchase a home or generate income as easily as in the US. Additionally, US mortgage interest rates are fixed for 30 years, a scenario unlikely in India, where the high rates are used to control inflation. In the US, if you buy a property with a fixed-rate mortgage, your payments remain the same even if inflation rises. The US housing market is struggling to meet demand and will likely face this challenge for the next 10-15 years due to a growing population. Both Wall Street and Main Street are favorable in the US. I don't see a scenario where investing in India would be more beneficial unless you are a wealthy individual looking for places to park your money.
@SneakiNinja80

For NRI’s, Stay in India if you want to with minimum home and daily expenses. But invest in US market and keep your accounts in USA. Get the interest from your investments and enjoy in India. If you keep your accounts in USA, it will be easy to transfer the wealth to kids if something goes wrong.. from India to get the money to US is almost difficult and US born kids will not go for it..

Rupee depreciation is a long term certainty. No question about that- unless you are a forex trader, which barely anyone reading these comments is. Depreciation is also because of trade deficit, which is NOT going to change in mid term… consider an average about 5-6% depreciation so if you earn 16 percent in India, actual returns are 10% in dollar terms. Reduce another 1-2% lost in 2 way conversion. Plus add the biggest pain - that of remittances. NOT easy taking money from India. How does it make sense for someone who’s long term plans are not in India living

In short rupee is not a good currency to invest because India is a country with many problems, whether it is geopolitical issues, corruption, huge and diverse population or external factors like big powers like China and America. But if invested wisely returns may be higher since there are many sectors that have potential to grow. If you’re investing in fixed deposits in India, you will lose out because don’t expect rupees to strengthen. Secondly, interest rates for FDs in USD are quite high. HELLO MR. BHAT. FATCA, or the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, is a law that helps prevent tax evasion by Americans using foreign accounts. Here’s what it does in simple terms: It requires U.S. citizens and residents to report their foreign financial assets to the IRS for tax purposes. It also requires foreign financial institutions to report on the assets held by U.S. account holders. The main goal of FATCA is to ensure that Americans are paying taxes on money they keep abroad, and it helps the U.S. government track these assets for tax compliance

In the long run, the rupee depreciate at the rate of around 3% per annum against dollar. This will keep happening till there is a difference between the interest rates in India and US. Interest rates and inflation in India are around 3-4% more than US. So is reflected in the dollar price in long run. If rupees becomes stable against dollar and India keep giving more interest rates, why would anyone invest in US? Same reflects in the GDP and stock market growth. In normal situation, it does not matter which currency are you investing in. If you are in US, invest jn dollars else invest in rupees to avoid the expense of exchange rate. In the current scenario, both US and India stock markets appear to be expensive. But US market appears to be more expensive than India. US market cap by gdp is sitting at 1.94 whim India is sitting at 1.2.

It’s a pain to do anything in India. Just because you are NRI , you are treated as 3rd class citizen despite adding so much to economy. Also, government outlook is same as colonial mindset that everyone is thief and so much complications when it comes to taxation and nothing is streamlined despite digital india. I feel like most people don’t do taxes within india due to complications involved and also with DTAA coming into play it is very cumbersome as USA and india financial calendars don’t match. Unless there is ease on taxes and account management for investment. Most people will refrain from INR investment unless you are big corp who can manage all red tapes and paper work. For middle class , suffering is not worth it.

India investment looks good. Lets take todays number. 5% APR in USA . 7.2% in India NRE. $ to inr as 82.44. inr back to $ as 85. Repatriation fee close to $20 on $10k consider as GST,One time fees etc . So $10k brings back $240 more per year than if in usa ....Breakeven if $ reached 116 which is unlikely, and even if it reaches to it , redundant if SIP is on. Also nre to usa account transfer has no limits. 100k per transaction however. Nre interest is tax free too.

Why NRI retire in india it is true that a significant number of the most polluted cities in the world are located in India. According to the 2023 World Air Quality Report published by IQAir, a Swiss air quality technology company: - 41 of the top 100 most polluted cities in the world are in India. - The top 22 most polluted cities in the world are all located in India. - The Indian capital city of New Delhi is ranked as the most polluted capital city in the world. Some key points: - India has a severe air pollution problem, driven by factors like vehicle emissions, industrial activity, construction, waste burning, and seasonal agricultural burning. - The northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana have the highest concentration of polluted cities in the country. - While air quality has improved in some Indian cities in recent years, the overall pollution levels remain dangerously high, posing serious health risks to the population. - Addressing this crisis requires concerted efforts from the government, industries, and citizens to implement robust pollution control measures and shift towards cleaner energy sources and practices. So in summary, yes the data clearly shows that a disproportionately high number of the world's most polluted cities are located within India, highlighting the scale of the air pollution challenge the country faces.
