I’m a dentist, I mainly did it because of the money you get, but in the end I was actually enjoying my job. My favorite thing to do as a dentist is to remove wisdom teeth. There’s something about it that I enjoy. It’s satisfying to see how big the wisdom tooth got. I also like talking to my patients and comforting them.
I am 75 years old and just retired from dentistry. I enjoyed practicing dentistry and had my own practice for 40 years. Dentistry has been very good to me both financially and fulfilling. The Ups are greater than the Downs. In my last 10 years of practice, it was very fulfilling to extract up to 28 teeth in a single day and provide replacement dentures the same day. Patients were very thankful for that service.
I think dentistry is better because you get to work while retaining your human element and not being a robot! You also get to graduate sooner and work in peace. I chose it because i personally thought i would not be able to manage the constant regular adrenaline surges throughout the day everyday if i became an mbbs doctor. Also, i find maxillofacial surgery really interesting so i hope i get to become a maxillofacial surgeon one day, fingers crossed!
Is it true that many of my friends saying that you'll not get enough time to spend your holiday or can't travel around the world, all you've to do is work and work!is that even true??
@@WGAGENCY is it easy? Are there many subjects and what are they? I just finished high school and im struggling to choose what to do next. I like biology and im good at it. And i want to make a lot of money(which is why im thinking of dental school). But just like u i don't think i can be a doctor or deal with life death situations. So I would appreciate if u give me advice. Should I choose dentistry if im just an average student.
Dentistry is exactly what he says, you can make it exciting as you want. There's so much more to learn because of the technological advances. Many people still think of the old traditional dental work, but nowadays we have CBCT for implants, CAD/CAM design and so much more. All these new frontiers can keep you on your toes for many years.
Depends on the country where u practice. Here in the Philippines, tooth extraction is the main treatment. And we dont need xrays 🤣 because patient cannot afford
Dentistry!🙌🏼 There's so much to do. I'm a first-year dental student about to appear for my final exams. It's more fun to be a part of this field. Of course, I wanna make more money. I wanna indulge in different knowledgeable kinds of stuff, business besides the job and want the best lifestyle.
@@FutureDoc you mean to which university right? I am not from UK i am from Azerbaijan😅 so i will choose Azerbaijan Medical University. Thank you for replying to my comment🐡🌼🌻
In my country🇵🇭 when I attended a Zoom seminar on Real Estate Selling, i noticed one of the attendees is a Dentist, there's been a scarcity of patients in dental clinics recently because people are saving money since the pandemic so maybe Doc wanted to be a Real Estate Agent as side gig. Anyways, people here had a habit: Even if their tooth aches, they'll rather drink 15¢ pain relievers than visit the dentist. However even though I'm 27, I want to take the first two years of dentistry school then enroll in podiatric med school abroad(because there is no podiatry school👣here but the first two years of dentistry and podiatry had same common health subjects)
@@jadadanos289 In the Philippines, there are no residencies for dentists. You may enroll for a school based specialization but you need to pay twice the price of your undergrad dental tuition. Unlike for medical doctors they get to specialize and get paid by the hosp at the same time. I wish i could bring back time, and took medicine instead of dentistry. What i have now is an aching back and carpal tunnel syndrome. Lol
@@is-cy3zo I didn't say that i want to be a dentist. i didn't say that i will take dentistry major subjects. The first two years of dentistry had common health subjects like Genetics, Pharmacology, Microbiology which is also same as the first two years of Podiatry. I wanted to be a Podiatrist(foot doctor). Only Pakistan had cheap Podiatry schools but due to c0rona, I wasn't able to get a visa. I lacked such common health subjects during my pre-med. My original plan was to take the first two years here of common health subjects that is also available in dental schools in Philippines then later I'll just continue in Pakistan for the Podiatry major subjects when c0rona restrictions finished. The Podiatry graduates are able to work abroad. Anyways, I already found an online school that offered Podiatry so I enrolled there, I didn't have to go outside.
Do dentists undergo a course in patient interaction? From personal experience, it seems like medical doctors are more ‘socialized’ whereas dentistry can be more judgemental (especially if you aren’t/weren’t lucky enough to afford dental/medical health care in childhood/early adulthood)
we do have classes for healthcare communication in which we are taught the framework within which we engage with the patient and how we should be approaching them. sounds like you've come across some shoddy dentists
I'm UK-based so it's slightly different. Did medicine, graduated back in 2013. Then decided I wanted to go into Maxillofacial surgery (for which you need both degrees in the UK). So then I went back to uni to do the Dentistry side of things :)
I answered 10 to the 1st four questions, and 1 to the 5th question Except I am applying those questions to your video which is medicine vs pharmacy. I am unsure of what to do as my answers do not lean to one side.

I'm not sure what to choose between those two. But I value my free time and a schedule timed a lot. I feel like medicine will be too much stress and work for me.
@@notradamaza4035 dentistry practice in europe will surely be better than here in terms of lifestyle, compensation and specialty opportunities. But if in case u choose medicine, there are lots of specialties that offers great lifestyle
Hey! I hope you're well. I'm currently looking to study dentistry, but at some point I'd like to become a medical scientist. Is it possible? Any help would be appreciated, love from Pakistan :D

@@FutureDoc the studying, the licensing exams, the fact that the degree of dentistry from my country isn’t recognized in america, altho it is in other countries, and whether i end up finding a job or not
@@tabiaiftikhar2011 same here appeared for neet 2021 right? I too have a score of 335 I know low I too want to do post in USA & for that have to give dds
@@cherrybansal110 hey! i passed my mcat in pakistan as well and super confused about whether i shud go for bds or not. here are my recommendations tho. you cud go or something similar instead. i, for example, have microbiology in mind for myself. however if youre really passionate about dentistry, then do alot of thinking, talk to other people about it and go for it. you might not end up going to the usa and become really successful in india or end up going to the middle east where the licensing exams are not too hard from what i’ve heard. and if you definitely wanna do dentistry AND go to the usa then things cud still work out. you might find a job for which you don’t necessarily need dds and our bachelors is acceptable to some extent. like research work or tecahing i think. i have a cousin who has done mbbs from pakistan and didnt clear the usmle. now he’s well settled in america and has some job in research work. alhto the key point here is that mbbs is acceptable and bds is not but bds is still a bachelors degree so this might work out for someone with a bds. and i know that cases like these are extremely rare but there is hope to some extent and if you’re very passionate about dentistry, you can find a way around things. as for myself i get very double minded about dentistry so it’s hard for me to apply this example to myself haha. again, i’d recommended talking to someone, maybe your own dentist, visiting a good career counselor and explaining this exact situation to them, talking to your parents, your classmates, someone doing bds etc. good luck with everything! and remember whatever you go for, contentment of the heart is most important :) and altho im in a very confused state of mind, im still here if you wanna talk!
something else i wanna clear out about the example i gave of my cousin. his wife’s family was well settled in america so it makes a case like this easier. also i read your comment again and you said that you specifically wanna do postgraduation in usa. meaning you definitely wanna practice dentistry, so i dont think you’d wanna go for the research work and stuff
no it really depends. there'll always a dentist out there who owns multiple clinics who earn more than you do while working less but obviously that's not every dentist.

@@FutureDoc Oh, great. I’ll watch it and thank you for the content. I have second thoughts about choosing dentistry or medicine and I know your videos will help me to make wise decisions.
Give yourself some time to settle in, and if you're still feeling overwhelmed perhaps speak to your supervisor. Although keep in mind that both medicine and dentistry are considered to be one of the hardest university degrees, and they require a lot of time and effort.
I’d recommend you start by checking out my webinar on ‘The 4 Key Steps To A Successful Medical School Application’ here: futuredoc.mykajabi.com/registration-page
Possibly but there’s been so many layoffs lately, the job security just isn’t there. For some people that’s a bigger deal. Always hopping from job to job. At least with dentistry there’s always work and you don’t need to worry about not having a job or being unemployed. And if you specialize or own a practice you have a much more comfortable life.
@@samysrifi Aesthetics health will always be the most expensive but, veeery little get to that point. An consultant/entrepreneur engineer can get that too.
@@FutureDoc Thanks but the thing is that I might also pursue a career in engineering but something in medicine could be also possible so that’s why physics is here :)
Dentist are not different professionals or less important. Dentist are not secondary to any specialty of medicine. A neurosurgeon has to take dentist appointment if he develops dental pain or need to see an oral surgeon ( specialist dentist) if he breaks his tmj or jaw or develops jaw tumor. So considering dentistry something less is totally wrong. There is wrong concept that physician can treat everything from head to toe but it is totally false. A physician can diagnose dental problems but cannot treat it and will refer to a dental surgeon. Similary if a physician diagnose any problem related to eye or skin he will refer the pt to an ophthalmologist or dermatologists for treatment respectively. And some treatment or surgery are performed in teams consisting of surgeon different specialty like for example oral cancer is treated by a team of oral surgeon ent surgeon and onco surgeon.

Hey,thank you such an informative video! Can you tell me if doing undergrad in dentistry in US and then going to a dental school in the US better than doing BDS in my country and going to a dental school later?
Also, doing the conversion degrees in the USA from yourocal BDS cost A LOT of money. If you want to be in the USA, then go for it from the start I would say. You can always do your second option as a plan B
