In this video we put 2 of the most reliable tier 3 missiles in the game the SCALP NAVAL from UNITED KINGDOM and the newest Type-17 SSM Missiles from JAPAN.
We test both missiles by directly comparing their performance against 2 targets, first a pure no ant air defense submarine to determine each missiles raw or pure damage and second against a well defended cruiser the RF Varyag with 3 HEL Lasers + 5 Garpuns + 3 Cortale Anti Air Defense systems.
Note:
This is a controlled test where the target ships does not use any decoys/flares and does not perform defensive or evasive maneuvers.
Please remember that this result might defer in actual combat scenarios where target player will use flares and hide in the islands or move together to har strong defensive formations.
However the outcome of this test will surely reflect in a 1 v 1 battles where the target Sub is exposed in the open.

it seems that Cortale and other missile defense AA can easily destroy Type-17 SSM, you can see it in second part of the video since most missile defense type like Cortale can one hit the SSM 70 HP missile, Scalp on other hand got 150Hp more than double so it can literally punch through all types of defenses unless it's Belgorod AA... in short SCALP may have lower damage per shot but all it's shot reach it's target Type 17 on other hand get wrecked halfway or before reaching the target ship.

Yeah papers stat on game is a bit complicated like, in the end what matters most in the topic of missiles is the two aspects below: 1. How often the missiles fire and hit it's target. ( fast fire rate - this will overwhelm your target defenses ) the faster the missile fire, the more likely it will dish out very high damage and bypass all enemy defenses. 2. How effective is your weapon against defending ship/ships? can it get through all the time? cause if not then you'll be losing massive dps on missiles that get destroyed by your target AA. One example of this is the Granit Missiles, it has one of the highest damage in the game, but that damage is useless if it cannot reach it's target due to very low speed and most AA can shoot it down. Very similar in this case, Type-17 SSM is no doubt better in damage stat, but it tend to fail compare to SCALP Naval when fired towards a well defended ship like the one we used in this video. This is because Type-17 SSM only have 70Hp which can easily be destroyed by AA Defenses while SCALP Naval can punch through cause it has 150Hp in max Upgrade. I hope my explanation about this is ok... 😅

For added reference bro you can see from time: 1:47 Observe Type 17 SSM on the right it has very unstable damage, this is because one to 2 missiles out of 4 gets destroyed by the defending ship AA. While in the left SCALP Naval consistently do damage at the same rate, with both missile punch through. This resulted to higher overall damage output not because Scalp got better damage, but because Type-17 SSM is no longer consistent in it's damage per salvo due to its missiles was getting intercepted and destroyed.
