today i talk about our lovely cave options!!!! be sure to let me know if i convinced to to come to the dark side :D twitter/x: / lummi_a tik tok: / lummi.a discord: / discord :)
I usually go with the fruits cave because the bats often bring berries that you can, actually, use for seasonal seeds to make tea trees too. And it's pretty useful for the first winter, to make easy jams and wines !
I always chose mushroom cave. I always would get fruit trees in the greenhouse anyways and I found the mushroom cave much more reliable and it would always give money. The fruit I needed would just never spawn for the community center whenever I picked it in runs so that just added to my conviction. Also about the everyday thing- ConcernedApe said in one of his tweets that it would be changed back to every other day in the 1.6 update. I’m not sure if that’s still true but I heard about it when it was first announced
@@Lummi.a Either visit the cave on even/odd days OR put a keg there and toss hops in it and only visit when the keg is done. Is there a mod that allows you to set reminders for yourself?
When I first played I picked the mushroom cave simply because I figured I could always grow the fruit trees for the fruits that I need. Honestly I think the mushroom cave wouldn't be so bad if the purple mushrooms weren't ridiculously rare. I just have over a hundred brown mushrooms stored just WAITING to be used for life elixirs. Next time I'm probably gonna go for the fruit bat cave for the sake of community center.
I always go w the fruit bar cave bc of the reasons you listed, but also I’m pretty sure fruit is generally more liked than mushrooms among villagers so if you want to get friendship up (like me!) then the fruit cave is best
I chose the mushroom cave for my first and main save because, well, I think mushrooms are cool. Your channel made me choose fruit bats for my solo save and it is so much better lol
I've done both, and while the fruits did help with the CC, after, I hardly had a use for them. I prefer to keg ancient fruit, and preserve pumpkins. Whereas with the mushroom cave, I had a forever source of fall seeds for tea saplings, which usually buy me apple and pomegranate trees by mid summer. I do have a farm routine I follow every morning, so unless I'm warping directly to Skull Cavern on a good luck day, I'll get my shrooms daily.
For now I'm a Mushroom Cave guy. I don't focus on animals in any of my playthroughs so I'm never getting coops, barns, chickens, cows, sheep etc etc. I'm just always planting crops and a hell of a lot of them as well. Anywhere from 100 being the minimum to 350 which is about as much as I can manage refilling the basic watering can multiple times, foraging and fishing food, eating mushrooms from my Mushroom cave etc. So for me the Mushroom cave is one of my main sources of energy for getting through all those crops if I don't have a rain totem or a rainy day ahead. That being said I heard Concerned Ape will nerf the Mushroom cave to every other day and ngl that might switch me over to the other side and just plant less crops. Like 200 or something and make levelling up the watering can a priority for end of season times when I can't get an extra potato harvest in or something. When I play co-op with my friends of girlfriend they always want the fruit bat cave and I'm fine with that, In Co-op I can sleep to regen my energy and so I'm happy being the profit guy for them to do whatever with without my Mushie cave Edit: I always end up getting fruit trees anyway for decoration around the farm and in the greenhouse with Tea Saplings anyway. They always look better than ordinary trees and I won't be chopping them down. So just leaving the fruit up there to add a splash of colour to my farm is just an amazing addition for me, someone who can never properly organise or layout or decorate his farm properly. I also notice that thee quality of fruits from fruit trees goes up by 1 every year and stays that way so buying them on year 1 means you get consistent Iridium Fruit every day in the greenhouse
I get the mushroom cave, the early game energy is too useful and spending 10k on two trees before summer 25th is less of a headache then giving up my supply of mushrooms for energy early game cause im the get as many strawberries as possible type of player (also i dont think either are helpful enough late game to worry about the benifits past fall year 1)
I know this will probably bring dishonour in your comment section, but in both my playthrus i chose mushroom. As i decided i liked the idea of growing fruit trees, and having mushrooms growing means i didnt have to worry about where id have to look for them 😅
Fruit Bat Cave for me as well. Mushroom levels are pretty rare in the mines, but I really don't see myself needing more than around 2-3 of the red and purple ones over the course of the game. Usually just spamming salmonberries and blackberries is enough healing for me too, so no elixirs needed. Not that the fruit cave is mandatory for me either, but it helps a lot with the bundles. You only really need to buy the apple sapling to guarantee year 1 completion fruit-wise. Afterwards it's a nice source of couch money when you desperately need it, and the occasional iridium liked/loved gift in a pinch
I have chosen both options on my many caves. Before 1.5, the mushrooms were every 2 days and are said to be returned to that schedule after 1.6. I find that no matter which cave I choose, it is really only used during early game.
I’d argue that the mushroom cave is the better option. Since there are only 6 types of mushrooms and six planters in the cave, you have a decent chance to get at least one of every mushroom available. And I’ve found that finding all the mushrooms naturally is pretty hard, even in the caves. If there is a way to circumvent RNG in a game, it’s usually the better option. Which brings my counter argument to the fruit cave. As you said, there is a 2.9% chance to get apples in the cave, but what if I told you it took me 2 years in game to get an apricot in the cave for the community center? When running with the mushroom cave and using fruit trees I had the center complete by the end of Y2 or at most Y3 because of bad RNG.
Pro for fruit bat cave: You get cute little bats on your farm. (even if it's just in the cave you still can say that you have fruit bats on your farm.)
I love the mushroom cave. I must admit it's cause I have the automate mod so I just check it every Sunday and make a bunch of fall seeds with a seed maker to craft and sell a bunch of tea saplings, or just sell them all if I don't have enough resources. I chose the fruit bat cave this last savefile cause I wanted to marry Elliott. However I didn't really get enough Pomegranates for him so Im now just salty I didn't get the Mushroom Cave for this save.
I haven’t unlocked the cave choice yet you know the one where you have choose between a fruit bat cave or a mushroom cave and the mushroom cave sounds better not to offend anyone, so that’s gonna be my choice once I unlock the choice
I have always done the mushroom cave , I have no idea why, I just always chose it. That is, until the game I rencently started. I chose the fruit cave because of you videos and shorts
As a brand new stardew valley player, I have to say you did a really good job hiding your fruit cave bias until that part of the video. I was completely sold on mushrooms and the thing abt tea had me convinced you prefer mushroom caves lol
Since I use the Automate mod, I choose the mush cave. And with the SVE Mod (Grandpa's Farm / Shed) I get access to a greenhouse before I fill out the CC bundles for the vanilla greenhouse. So I can plant all fruit trees in it and still can auto collect the mushs in the mush cave. If I would play pure vanilla, I probably would use the fruit bat cave instead.
I generally prefer mushroom for early-mid game energy. Until you get your first few stardrops you run out of energy way too fast and mushrooms definitely help with that
Me: a new player thinking to choose Mushroom because I can decorate it without reducing the efficiency. but also thinking fruit is kinda better for me.
I got the fruit that cave on my first run because I thought it would help me with the community center, but I got just a lot of salmon berries. It was so useless that when I started a new farm, I forgot that there would be the cave.
im a new stardew player and i chose the fruit bat cave blindly only because i thought fruits looked prettier than mushrooms, after this video im glad i picked it!
I tend to go mushrooms as I like challenge runs where I can’t leave the farm and it’s all about profit, but I always regret it later on in the play through, if there was a way to use the seed maker on the fruit bat foragables I’d be all over it!
I chose mushroom because after my years of playing Stardew I have always thought that for some reason the fruit bat cave actually just had bats in it and was essentially a monster cave 🥲
I just started and I wanna try both! I really appreciate you making these guides to help new players! But your game looks so different! Which mods do you use to make it look like that? Would you make a video about it? I really like your content
I choose mushroom cave because i can buy a few more items i need and complete the bridge repair and not have to count on the mines prying it will give that sweet ore i need you can see what ore is available in the quarry with out depending on luck.
About get cows in the meadow farm to use as cheese food for mine and so on I want to get wizard max. If I already get mushroom cave later I should just get the fruit instead I do like the bats and fruits.
I added a mod that let's you change it. Before that I always did mushroom cave bc you can use it to help fill the community center. Almost more or quicker than fruit cave. But with the mod I do fruit until the artisan one is complete and then switch to mushroom. But so far on two playthroughs that has only gotten me about 3 to 4 items for the cc edit: I also use the automate mod so it autocollects so I only have to collect when I feel like it
You actually get 1 xp per mushroom but that negligible. Early game i use it dor food and late game i use it for free life elixer. Also of you the automate mod you dont even need to enter the cave at all until you want rinse your chest out. If I'm looking for a year 1 CC i just buy apples for fall while using animals for most of my other stuff. For forging xp I just spam forage seeds in winter
i personally prefer fruit cave, mostly because I'm able to check only once a week. And though a life elixir is far more than a few fruits(and take up less space with all the types and qualities), with fruits I have a little bit more of a choice on how much I want to heal. What if I'm at half health but want to make sure I get a full use of my life elixir, but also don't want to wait until near death for me to get that proper use? Just use fruits! They heal less, but you have more, and so you can really balance it out. It's also a bit more cost efficient, because fruits in general(without making them into wine first, but my kegs are usually always filled anyways-) are worth much less than life elixirs.
Ok this is real kicker are you really confident that you will be able to get the five gold star crops because mealons are pains in the a$$ to get five of them i missed up in more than one playthrough where i only made it to year two in one and with out those damned five gold star crops you anit getting your green house.
For me it depends on if I’m useing automate or not And the fruit cave is made useless by fruit trees Imo mushroom cave is better for the community centre though
During 1.5 and until 1.6, I think they were pretty evenly matched with their upsides and downsides. Now, fruit bats are probably the superior choice for many people. In 1.6 there is a new mushroom log that can spawn many of the mushrooms that the mushroom cave could spawn, as well as the mushroom cave being switched back to producing only every second day instead of every day.
Another argument for the fruit cave, also for speed, is that with the botanist profession, you can pick iridium fruits! It's the only option to get iridium fruits that early. If you plant the saplings, you have to wait 4 years to start getting iridium fruits because the trees will increase quality by 1 rank each year. The fruits themselves are not worth that much gold and don't even recover a lot of health, but they are loved gifts by some (like oranges for Gus, and peaches for Robin), and liked by most people. Just don't go around giving iridium salmonberries though. So after clearing the CC, those can be iridium quality loved gifts for some people, that you obtain for free. Also, another style of player is the decorator. Those people will always choose the fruit cave because that means another empty zone to decorate. The 6 mushroom boxes can get in the way. All that said, I still pick the mushroom cave, though, cuz I love the aesthetics of mushrooms 😅.
