When it's a competition between institutions then it might need a person perceived by people to be serious. This was the case with a show like the Zain Africa challenge hosted by John Sibi Okumu. However, when it's just a fun show, it needs a comedian to help people laugh and not feel stressed. This is what Steve Harvey has been doing for years on his popular show called Family Feud. You should check it out. They've hosted some shows in S.Africa and were going to come to Kenya but then Corona happened. I think Switch TV was inspired by that show. It's nice and fun :)
@Jay Well, I think my main problem with him was that his "making the show fun" was actually making it worse, in my opinion. He occasionally mispronounced words, not sure whether he intended it to be funny, and he took too long to read out questions during timed sessions, causing the contestants to lose marks. The random interruptions really took the fun away for me since I was more interested learning from the show rather than laughing. But I do get your point. I was comparing him to Bill Costa from The High School Quiz Show cause he's eloquent and direct, yet he still inserts some random (albeit rare) jokes in a professional manner.
