I don't see why sit down kayaking or stand up paddleboarding should determine which one you should wear on the paddleboard. Although if you're going to consider safety and the inherently buoyant PFD safer, I would think you're more likely to fall off from the standing up position than in the sitting down position. And therefore should wear the inherently buoyant PFD while you're standing.

That's a fair assessment for sure, you're always safer regardless of craft with an inherently buoyant life jacket. Both kayakers and paddle boarders do use inflatables for comfort and a minimalistic approach, in particular the kayak fishing world uses inflatable life jackets. While it's true you can fall from a standing position easier, you can also get back on a paddleboard much faster and easier, and it won't fill up with water like traditional sit-inside kayaks. Another factor not mentioned in the video is that when paddleboarding we recommend wearing a leash, which keeps you connected to a "giant flotation device" :-)

@@Islesurfboards , thank you for your reply. I agree with your points as well. My original reply was based on the fact that we were talking about using the iSUP as a kayak. And when I use my iSUP as a kayak, I still use the leash and am attached to my giant floatation device. I'm not arguing. Just providing more discussion because as you said, it is a debatable topic. 🙂

@Islesurfboards My question is, how difficult is it to get back on a 6" thick iSUP (or 8" with the Megalodon) while wearing an inherently buoyant PFD? How much does it interfere with doing so? I'd love to see an ISLE vid on how to get back on one of their iSUP's- especially the wider ones with seat(s) and a motor battery attached. I have some ibpfd's for kayaking, but am considering getting a belt variety to be able to get back on more easily.

Great question - there is definitely a technique to it - the key is to hold the center carry handle, then lightly kick your feet to *get your body flat on top of the water* (if you try pulling yourself onto the board with your legs straight down in the water it's so much harder) - at this point you extend your arms, then in one motion kick with your legs, pull with your arms and press down on the board with your forearms - this should get you up on the board. Not super easy for every body type, but from our experience this works almost every time.
