Well there is quite a few comic fans like myself who also read manga and watch anime. And a lot of people start with marvel legends but the figures as of recent haven’t been the best and they have been really bad with accessories as of late, like it is the cheaper side of figures but some figs don’t come with fists anymore.
The only problem with having the Imagination Works one is that it doesn't scale well with other figures as it is not a 1/12 scale figure. Other than that, it's a lot better than the SHF but will still collect SHF since I plan on making a Shonen protagonist shelf. Nice video btw!
You can call me thrifty because I enjoy finding deals that don't break the bank. This SHF Luffy figure not only looks great on your shelf but also leaves your finances intact, sparing you from questioning your life choices 😅😅😅 It's a win-win! Get the SHF luffy!
Agreed and the shf is a solid figure for the revived one piece line but if they're going to do another luffy then it should be near the same price as zoro and sanji and have afew armorment haki effects, atleast one gum gum effect, face plates, etc
Imagination Works is definitely superior but considering it's waaaay more expensive, as well as being 1/9 scale, it's purely for fans that want just that one figure of Luffy. The SH Figuarts one is more for 1/12 collectors since it's much cheaper and it's in scale with lots of other figures
I think the Figuarts one is the better overall value if you're a casual collector and just want a decent Luffy on your shelf. Is the other one better? Sure. It's just not worth paying over double the price in my case.
I’m not sure, I think if you’re a casual collector the IW Luffy is the better choice. Sure, he’is more expensive and out of scale but he’s probably also the one definitive Luffy you’ll ever want, while the SHF version is cheaper and in scale, the second new figures come up that are better he’ll get replaced in a second, probably costing you way more in the long run. For collectors who want to build the whole crew however and mix and match with other collections, there the SHF version seems the better option. I doubt IW will do the entire crew (maybe the big 3 with Zoro and Sanji, but beyond that I seriously doubt it). More than money and scale, it’s what type of collector you are that informs the choice and for a casual collector I would definitely go for the best version, even if it’s more expensive.
@@jarosbodytko6462 When I said casual collector I meant someone who doesn't want to spend a lot on a figure. Either way, now that I have the SHF one, I can say that I don't regret going that route. He's one of my favorite figures I own. I also got Zoro and Sanji SHF and Anime Heroes Chopper and Usopp. The Chopper and Usopp scale well with the SHF. I'm glad I went with the cheaper, smaller scale.
I've never seen someone not talk about the articulation flaw in this Luffy Imagination Works, where the flip-flop bends in the Imagination Works while Sh Figharts doesn't have this flaw.
And the shading is like that because it supposed to look like it came out from the anime. The other action figure looks like that because it’s supposed to look like that supposed to look realistic.
To be fair, SH Figuarts luffy is meant to be an entry figure to the One Piece line. Other figures have more of his accessories which is incentive for people to buy them. Imagination Works Luffy seems to be a one-off so that might be why it has more stuff. Also, it is larger, so cloth goods are easier to do. Knee articulation on Figuarts Luffy is awful though with no excuse.
@@bak1069 since I made that comment, I did get my hands on one and I have to agree. Though I think it’s mostly due to the skirt and that restrictive crotch piece. Sanding the latter and replacing the former with soft goods may fix the problem, although I’d have to find a talented 1/12 scale tailor
SHF Luffy is basically just budget imagination works Luffy, I mean it’s like 30 dollars, so you get what you asked for. Imagination arts is like over 100 so if it didn’t come with this much quality it would’ve been concerning
Not really. Yes, the SHF is much cheaper but it’s quality is simply much worse than other SHF of a similar price. Their quality varies immensely and when you know that accessory count is what mostly drives up the price, not build quality, than SHF Luffy is simply not a good figure. Zoro and Sanji cost 20 $ more and they’re also not great. Price isn’t enough to justify poor quality. IW Luffy is expensive, but the build quality, face options and accessories are excellent. plus original retail was around 60-70$ instead of what it costs now so that makes the quality even more impressive for that price.
Personally I don't like the use of cloth and realistic shading on the imagination works because it makes it look too realistic. I want it to look like a cartoon. Also, I think poseability and articulation are redundant categories. Also, the pricepoint is a huge factor
It’s not hating on a figure if said figure is clearly inferior. I have my fair share of SH Figuarts and it was my favourite company at some point, but now it’s only fair to say their quality varies significantly depending on the franchise and sometimes even within the same franchise. And with prices climbing higher and higher it’s hard to justify buying SH Figuarts anymore. I’d rather have a more expensive figure that checks all the boxes and will be a keeper than a cheaper figure that leaves you wanting for better and will be replaced the second a newer one comes up. Although it seems one-sided, this review is more than fair. I seriously consider buying the Imagination works Luffy now, especially with the interchangeable eyes giving an insane amount of expressions.
I'm not going to lie I just got the SH figure arts monkey d Luffy and it has so many QC problems. I'm actually kind of upset right now. The right leg just keeps popping off anytime I try to move it or pose it. It's literally not even holding on because there's no type of anything to hold it
It’s a $35 action figure you expecting it to come with all those accessories and they even have 3rd parties just for extra accessories and stop hating on sh figure art’s make good action figures
figuarts faces look "evil" instead of angry which doesnt fit the character of luffy, iam figuarts collector but besides the price its clear win for imagination works
Great video and all, but you're comparing a $50 figure to a near $300 one it really isnt fair and obviously the Imagination works figure is going to be superior, kind of a no brainer.
