Fun video. Fast charging however drastically reduces the life of lithium ion cells. The slower you can charge them the longer they last.

Yeah but time is money and builders and tradies don't want to be hanging around for batteries. Plus the batteries are kept cool with fans on these chargers, unlike the dewalt and Milwaukee ones which heat up way too much.

On behalf of him I'd like to welcome myself to the channel and kindly request that he doesn't interrupt the middle of my videos anymore with pretty impact drivers in a hot tub. But anyway cheers for the guest spot and the beers dude.

Well, all the commotion around your intrusion of this channel is what led me here from the Tools & Whatnot channel, leading to another subscription here. And now I'm on my way to the Takami Woodshop.. Oh glorious RU-vid collaborations!

Now I'm considering getting 2 slow chargers on top of my 2 quickchargers and Dual charger. They seem great for overnight charging, even though the lack of a fan doesn't entice me. Cooled fast charging vs uncooled slow charging; dilemma to choose which one is better for the battery.
@sigi9669
@sigi9669 3 года назад
From my understanding it's not just the temperature that degrades the battery. The higher amperage causes damage even at the same temperature. Aside from that I wouldn't be surprised if the 2,6 amps of the slow charger would leave a cooler battery then the 9 amps of the quick one, even with the fan working. (Mere gut feeling though..).

@Builds & Stuff. Thanks guys for making this video. It's amazing that the 40V XGT Rapid charger is louder even when measured further from the phone sound meter! Do you guys know when Makita first sold that single bay standard charger where you are? I first saw it last Christmas when it was included in a 1/2" impact wrench with 3AH battery and bag. What a disappointment (the charger). Always liked that Makita always included rapid chargers with all their kits. Every other tool maker makes you buy their rapid or "super" charger separately except in rare cases. The fans not only keep the charger cool but more importantly, keeps the batteries cool during rapid charging. Heat is what kills those batteries during charging. Hope you guys and your families stay safe and well.

Wouldn't have a clue when the standard chargers came out. As you say everything came with rapid chargers. This one came in the inflator kit. Makita call them an "optimum" charger.

@@BuildsStuff Wow. So that's what those Makita marketing wonks call the slow standard charger. On the box for my 1/2" impact, 2AH battery (sorry, my mistake thinking it was 3AH) charger and bag they just call it a standard charger. Stay safe and well

I've never bought a tool that came with a 2ah battery. Different countries have different kit configurations. Like with the new 40v line, here they all come with 2x 4ah batteries, whereas in the UK most kits come with 1x 2.5ah. Strange world... Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hey mate, fellow kiwi here, would you know if the dual port standard chargers (DC18SH) chime/melody when charged? Cheers.

I haven't tried one but I think only rapid chargers play tunes

Okay so far fast chargers they are all the same time difference is about 4 minutes but you can't prove batteries are equally drain so What I wanted to see was current and voltage rating between the two fast chargers and the slow, I have a power tool without charger so i charge with bench power supply

What about the quad
@BuildsStuff
@BuildsStuff 3 года назад
The four Port charger takes nearly 4 hours to charge 4 5 amp hour batteries so a bit of a painful test. Far better off with two dual rapids which will charge 4 5 amp hour batteries in only 45 minutes.
@sigi9669
@sigi9669 3 года назад
The quad is basically two switching slow chargers in a case that holds four batteries. It'll charge the first two batteries like the single slow charger (110 mins/5 amp battery), and then switch over to the second pair. At a price of four times the single slow charger you should be seriously space constrained for it to makes sense imo..
