Nice to see two gentleman sharing their passion and love for each Maserati. Wonderful, wonderful video taking the piss, sharing the good points and bad points. But utterly obsessed. Beautiful. I owned a grandsport and never had so many people walk up and say “Gday”. That included girls! Now I am the proud owner of both a Guilia QV and Stelvio QV. I need to see a therapist. lol. The Italians and their unique way of delivering passion, performance, world class engineering and sound is utterly addictive. I am now looking in classifieds for a granturismo MC stradale……….

Great video! I bought a Gransport after driving Quattroportes one right after the other, the first with the ZF, and the second with the Cambiocorsa. It was very obvious to me that the Cambiocorsa equipped car was the one to have. If I'm driving a Maserati, it should be the best driver involvement car. Naturally after deciding on the automated manual over the automatic, the Gransport was the obvious choice for a 4 seat Maserati regardless of the loss of practicality. I'm happy that in the end the Gransport won in your video, however, you should have shown an engine bay shot of both cars. The Gransport easily wins that one with it's beautiful intake manifold. Thanks again, good comparison. I would like to see you do a Quattroporte comparison as well, because when I did, I was shocked by the difference in the 5th gen cars on my test drives. I was originally only interested in the ZF Quattroporte because of reliability, but was instantly converted to the automated manual upon driving one and decided that I'd rather put the cash in a clutch when necessary and lose some practicality than live with the compromises of the slushbox and added weight. Thanks again.

The GranSport is pretty, but somehow it’s incomplete. The GranTurismo is just perfect- there isn’t a single wrong line. Btw, I have an interesting dad car for you - the best GT car ever made in my humble opinion - the Porsche 928 GTS Manual. I have a 2013 Maserati GranTurismo Sport MC-Shift. Rare, I know. And I also happen to have a 928 GTS 5-spd - one of 44 ever made in RHD. It would be interesting to drive the genre defining car of the 1980 and early 1990s back to back with the GranSport… Two V8, 400bhp each, 2+2 and only 25yrs between them 😂 You would have to wait till Spring though as while the Maserati gets driven once a week at least, the Porsche lives in storage during the Winter… Let me know if interested…

You’re welcome as I’ve said before to come and drive ours. We’ve got an Assetto Corsa, a Gransport LE, an MC Victory, a GT Sport, 2 Stradales and a Quattroporte GT S here if you’re quick…. Another good video. Awkward comparison as one car is around £14k and one is around £22k but I agree with your conclusions. An auto GT is a better daily, a Gransport is a better weekend drive for someone who wants an A road blaster. A GT S MC is somewhere in between the two.

Much as I like the sound of the V8 in both of your cars, they are not, in my personal opinion, the best sounding ‘affordable’ engine. That title has a clear winner. From about £10k you can pick up the worlds ugliest car, the bmw M6, with the awesome sounding (although somewhat problematic) V10, makes these V8’s sound almost cheap in comparison. Go have a listen to one and tell me that I’m wrong! Ps we have the same dream car though 😂

I will try and repost my opinion as a long time Maserati GranSport owner. First off, what a wonderful and VERY fair video…nice job. The GranSport is the closest one can get to a Ferrari. A lot of the mechanicals are almost identical to that of earlier Ferrari’s…not a lot, but they are there. Both engines (4.2 and 4.7) are fantastic and both love to rev. The GranSport is a lot easier to thread a needle with and hides it’s weight very well. I’ve driven both cars as my close friend had 2. I am not a GranTursimo fan BUT, I would drive one every day. Both cars are VERY expensive to run and the GranSport is a lot “finikier”. Owned mine since 2007 and probably could’ve purchased a used Porsche for what I’ve spent on repairs…but as I’ve stated before…no other car will give you the full range of emotions (love, cry, hate, remorse, happy,sad,terror..etc.) like this one will. The GranTurismo is amazing and a bit softer..and may appeal to someone who is looking for more luxury. Both cars can also be heavily tweaked for sound, horsepower and handling. Since both are normally aspirated, don’t expect huge gains but there is a little more available coming in at 3500 RPMs. The GranSport steering wheel is more attractive in my opinion and I believe is made by “momo” and is found in earlier Ferrari’s. I also have the same carbon paddles as you do and I love them. I think it would be a great video to do some road pulls and a dyno day. For anyone looking to buy - be aware..these both will drain your pockets…but if your an enthusiast and have multiple cars or, you plan on keeping these cars indefinitely…the money you’d spend on a lease or a car payment would equate to the running costs of this car over time. Maserati is a different breed and requires a full of what you are getting into, nothing and I mean nothing will be “cheap” on either car…shoe strings need not apply. Both cars will suit any type of mood you are in and you can’t say that about many of the cars out there today.

@flatD1
@flatD1 3 месяца назад
It is very difficult to rate these cars to each other. As an owner of a GranTurismo (MY 2018 with rearcamera, touchscreen nav and a more edgy grill) it is impossible to make a fair comment to the much older and therefore older looking GranSport. And on top of it this significantly longer (and therefore also much heavier) GT is much prettier because of its extra lengths. To make the GT as short as the GS would take away all of its prestige, coolness and soul. Yes, they are different and the reason for this came from Ferraris intention to make a proper GT two door Coupé with a Ferrari V8 instead of an direct competitor neither to a Ferrari V8 sportscar or to a Ferrari GT with a V12. It was intended to do so and no fault or mistake. And the GT is rare enough to turning heads every day I drive it. And it is may daily driver with 160.000km+ on its odometer.

Grandsport with with FD sprigs And FD swaybars and cup2 tires slightly bigger on origial rims will.put down a same time as a ferrary 430 and spank a f360 on most tracks. #fact a gran turismo is not a sports car by no means... comparing apples to oranges.

@@goranbeso1303 Your last Phrase is absolutely correct. No doubt. But to put the GranSport with it's 400BHP beside a Ferrari F430 with 490BHP is a mess. No, they are not on the same level, not even close. The overall Layout of the Ferrari with it's mid engine position is much more racing oriented and therefore quicker in any way.

Great video, Ben. I think the GranTurismo is a gorgeous looking car but has a bit more of that mass produced feel to it. The GranSport feels special and I think that’s the combination of the limited build numbers (only ~2,500 built), the carbon fibre touches, and as another owner once said, was built at a time when Maserati actually gave a toss about the cars they built - they were never a volume producer but have become that over time. I think Ben summed it up well - the GranSport is a great weekender and gives you that sense of occasion whereas the GranTurismo is the more handsome, and usable daily. Oh, and the GranSport steering wheel is waaaaay better than the GranTurismo’s! The carbon, the slightly flattened top, great feel and no stupid buttons! Looking forward to more GranSport content!! I chose the Gransport when I was cross shopping the two cars last year. Only a blind man can think the Granturismo steering wheel is the better item 😂. The seats in the Gen 1 granturismo are not in keeping with the exterior look. Gransport seats are works of art, especially if you buy the carbon seat backs from aftermarket. I’ve no doubt the box in the Granturismo is likely quicker and better but not a world apart. In the end the sheer size of the Granturismo and added weight made the decision for me.

Got to say, I'm with Joe, the steering wheel in the GranSport looks plain. Obviously the driving quality might redeem it, but as the eye-catcher I don't think it does the car justice. However, I do think the GranSport is the prettier car. Now doubting the GranTurismo is a stunning car, but the GranSport has that 3200/Quattraporte looks that to me are what I think of when someone says "Maserati". I do also think rarity does add something to a car, because it makes every journey that bit more special. I have a motorbike of which just 3 of it's model year are apparently on the road. Riding a bike that I won't see another of makes it feel so much more special, and so I would say makes the GranSport all the more special and worthy of being true modern classic status. I love videos like this where it's two petrol-head mates chatting cars, it's great stuff, especially with Ben's enthusiasm.

Some points I wanted to comment on, having owned the updated GranTurismo Sport model for a couple of years. My point of reference is fast Fords (Focus RS, ST and BMW M cars) 1. Very light steering (not ideal at high speeds) 2. Planted car (great at high speed) 3. Feels big for a coupe, but light steering makes it easy to drive around town 4. A lot of fun 5. If you're not driving it at least every seven days, buy a trickle charger 6. Good audio 7. Never get bored of the exterior (of any post 2013 model) 8. That exhaust note ... I don't think anything more needs to be said on this.

I wouldn’t have a GT (even the S) but do currently own GS. Awesome little fun cars that are by far more reliable with maintenance that GTs. I could talk all day on this topic as know both very very inside and out. GS has its downsides as mentioned in this video but it’s quirky and an unusual site on the roads.

Owned a 4.7 GranTurismo S for 3years. Nothing ever went wrong or broke and I went on long road trips across Europe aswell - totally reliable just standard main dealer servicing. Ok it was more expensive to service than my 911 Carrera 4S but I knew that when I bought it.

I had a Grancabrio 4.7 and a QP4 3.2 V8 at the same time. The Grancabrio was a wonderful and powerful GT drama queen which I loved. The QP4 has the same performance because it has superb twin turbos, but its lightness gives it true sports car handling which makes it far faster from A to Z. So I kept the QP4 and sold the Grancabrio for a small profit. The QP4 is the most underated car ever made. It is almost perfect and probably the rarest modern car in the UK. Maybe there are a dozen or so on the road at present. You can use it every day because its looks are undramatic, which I really appreciate.

Have owned two Maserati GranTursimos. The 4.2 ...and now the 4.7 MC Shift. For the money, the ultimate Dad car for mine. Here in Australia you're paying three times the money for a much older Ferrari 612. The FF and GTC4 Lusso is even more eye watering in price.

I have owned a 3200 gt - driven the Maserati GranSport and GrandTurismo S. I would say the GranTurismo S is better in all ways unless you are talking about size. However, today both are "old" and I think buying with the gut feeling is most important. Great cars both!

What did you think of 3200 Vs gransport?
@nsxsennaforever
@nsxsennaforever 10 месяцев назад
@@dadcars Well it is complicated, the 3200 gt feels more powerful with the old school double turbo feel and mine was a manual, that I prefer. I really think the 3200 gt is undervalued and would take that before the GranSport. (even if the GranSport may be the better car). There is something about that F40 turbo feel. But the rest is much the same.

I began my Maserati quest in 2014, starting with the GrandSport...kept it for a weekend. Lovely car, but when I sat in the Granturismo I knew instantly it was the one. For me the GrandSport just felt like I was too boxed in. I'm 6'2" 250 lbs. so the Granturismo was a much better feel for me. I have replaced my OEM head unit and climate controls with the Aucar touch screen units and the interior is near perfect, to me. Formula Dynamics lowering springs with 265/35/20's up front and 345/30/20's on the rear, she sit's really nice! True to form for a GT car, it's an incredible road trip machine. 👍

😂 you clown. Problem is you believe all the rubbish on social media so that says a lot about you. You should have talked to actual owners. I owned a 4.7 GranTurismo S for 3 years. It was immaculate. Came with 9k miles and a full dealer service history. In the 3 years I owned it it was 100% reliable, never broke down and nothing broke or stopped working. I had it serviced at CARR’s Ferrari Maserati in Exeter as they originally supplied the vehicle, they were also faultless and 100% professional. Sure it’s more expensive to service than my Porsche 911 but I knew that before I bought it. I took it across Europe twice and other long distance drives. Perfect GT cruiser, lots of noise behind the car, quiet in the cabin with the engine up front whisper quiet.

Wow! New to your channel, but definitely subscribed now. A really well put together piece. I own a Ferrari 360 Modena, manual gearbox, and I’m looking at moving on. The Maseratis are a logical choice. The Italian pizzaz, style & sound abounds, but in a bit more understated fashion, perhaps allowing a bit more A to B driving, given that I’m over worrying about the 360, and the need for A to A. Your video is an excellent production,and has helped me weigh up both options. I must say that I came in favouring the GranTurismo, but the GranSport has me really interested! You both present so well on camera. Very natural, very honest, and obviously great mates. What you both have said is a great help. Keep up the good work. Had the Gransport also 3200 and 4200. If you can live with the unreliability of the 3200 that would be my choice. But the Gransport in my opinion is the Maserati to own. I’m now in a Mclaren and it’s a different beast indeed. Liked the Grantourismo when it first came out, but the mass production has made them common place. I always like something a bit different. The interior of the Gransport is far better, including the steering wheel! Hang onto it Ben it can only appreciate.

I did also upgraded the tail pipes on mine to Larini. Huge difference. The standard pipes were always a bit to nondescript even with the valves open. I opted for the non valved larini’s as they were more than adequate without valves.

I love the GranTurismo. Great car to drive daily. Comfortable, practical, plenty fast enough, and gorgeous looks. But it's a bit chavvy unfortunately. Not the car's fault, just the way it is. IMO of course. On the other hand, I think the GranSport has more cool factor. Less common, more obscure, understated and interesting Giugiaro design (evolved by Frank Stephenson). As they said in the video, the GranSport is a weekend car, whereas the GT is a daily/semi-daily car. Both great.

On the looks of the Gransport vs Granturismo (and I am biased as a Gransport owner), I have to say, it's not so cut and dry for me. When it comes to the interior, Ive sat in numerous Granturismos and it is no question for me - the Gransport is a far nicer interior to me. Much more classic, much less outdated electronics, beautiful sweeping lines. Interior is a huge part of the reason I got the Gransport. It's spectacular inside. Leaving that aside and focusing on exterior, the Granturismo is no doubt beautiful, and in many ways the more universally recognised and flashier design, but I have to say, to me the Gransport is the more special and beautiful design. Albeit, not from every angle! And I think that is the key here - the Granturismo is a car with interesting angles from every side, whereas the Gransport front is quite a weak spot in the design (particularly the grille), the rear is good (but perhaps not as good as the Granturismo), but from the side.. oh that is a beautiful, beautiful design! The sweeping lines of the Gransport from the side, compared to the Granturismo, for me, are just timeless and far more elegant and beautiful. The Gransport design, especially in person, is just beautiful to me and is why I never swapped to a Granturismo. I hate to beat a dead horse, but for me the Gransport's biggest weakness is twofold: 1) The gearbox is just a tad too slow. A good DBW box (not the bad one your car seemed to have!) does wonders here. Having said that, the gearbox is also dramatic and fun - just not as good as a manual and not as smooth and straightforward as an auto. It is a halfway house and that is it's problem - it is not the best of either world (sporting, which is a manual, or touring, which is an auto). 2) Dynamically, when pushing it, the car is fantastic and much more of a sports car than the Granturismo, but the stock springs roll and it simply isn't as flat in cornering as say an F360. This is given by the elongated (rather than more square) wheelbase of these cars. This is improved by stiffer springs, but given the elongated wheelbase, you need quite stiff springs and this can make the ride quite harsh This is really just saying an F360 is still the better sports car, but then that's not saying much given this comes very close for far less money! Overall I would say the Gransport is an F360 for much more reasonable money, with the back seat space (almost) of a Granturismo. It's a fantastic combination and a wonderful car to own! The only thing I would change on mine is having a manual gearbox instead (but this is true for every car I would own!), but I would certainly NOT want a ZF instead (too unsporting). Final comment on the sticky buttons - dry rubbing carefully with a microfibre cloth is the BEST solution I've found to sticky buttons, and fixed it permanently with no damage on mine. It takes a long time (15 mins per button) and is slow, as the sticky coating rubs off slowly, but once done the underlying plastic is perfect and the result is no more sticky buttons! I don't need to do it every 3 months either, it's a one time thing and works great! Thanks for a great video!
