The Senga injury would make me very reluctant to give up any significant prospects. We needed him to come back and now he’s done for the year. His injury guarantees he’ll be here for 2025, 26, and 27 at a very cheap price so let’s keep our prospects and take advantage of having a frontline starter locked up at 15 million a year.
I think the Mets need to thread lightly; they have control of the last wild card but not by much. There are 5-6 teams right there in the fight. The Mets aren't 1 - 2 pieces away from a World Series contender. I see so many people wanting to make trades like it was 2022 and they had a division lead. The Mets need to be careful as if they go all in and the trades don't work out they are giving up prospects that could affect the future. During this great run the of games the Mets saw some players like Igelsias and McNeil hit at levels that no way can they continue to hit that at that level. I think the Mets are going to come back to earth. I think this hot streak for the Mets may also have a been a curse as they are buying and not selling at a time when the market is limited and players are getting a great return. Instead of the Mets getting rid of some expiring contracts and getting prospects for the future. If the Mets miss the playoffs or get knocked out early this could be viewed as a wasted opportunity. I don't think the Mets have the pitching both starting or bullpen to make a deep run. You also saw this weekend how good pitching which is what you will face in the playoffs suddenly made this line up go very cold. From about the 4-5th inning of Friday night to late Sunday they Mets line up looked lost
I agree with you, but too many fans want to do whatever it takes to secure a wildcard spot. I think that the Mets should seriously consider dealing McNeil in the offseason if he finishes with a respectable BA.
@@almightypushplusultra2261 The team has a solid foundation of young talent, but their pitching is suspect. They don't have anyone you know will keep you in the game consistently.
@@benjaminwatlers1848 finally, someone gets the bigger picture. The Mets could easily fall into SD 2023 territory. Unfortunately, the Mets haven’t been able to evaluate talent even within their own system after all these players have joined or ascended. Keeping Megill in the rotation, treating Vientos as a player to be named later, not properly evaluating the defensive capabilities of Vientos & Alvarez. Even if the Mets squeak by the 1st round of the playoffs (assuming they make it) isn’t worth trading when you are desperate & you your best chips are having poor years & are unhealthy. The Mets could have fortified their farm system trading away rentals when their value was at their peak.
Diekman was DF’Ad. If he’s not picked up with that team paying his remaining salary then The Mets can send him to Syracuse to work it all out. If that’s possible
Too small a sample of great pitching, but he’s got control & health concerns. Gives you a lot of Ks, but he sits in the 4s. I think that’s too much even with a couple of years of control. Gilbert yes, but not Scott. Another pitcher, but not Scott or Sproat. The Mets especially this rotation without Scott & Senga are 5 inning pitchers who aren’t built for the playoffs adding 1 starter. Next year, that major group of great-elite pitchers has completely crumbled to 1 or 2. The Mets will now have to reassemble their rotation, AGAIN.
@@igorlobkovenko9480 he has made 30 games (29 starts) one time in his short career & seems to average 20 start/yr pitcher. The Mets need more than 1 great SP & there’s no guarantee they get 1 or 1 ascends even next year to compete with the best teams in the league. Also, Scott is hurt diminishing his value. The Mets will have to spend a lot next yr just to field a team. The Mets can’t go all in with 5 inning starters. It’s an unsustainable formula & has put an enormous strain on the bullpen. The Mets are more than 1 SP away from being a real contender in this playoffs & next year as well with a lot of holes to fill, imho.
How are guys like Gilbert and Clifford untouchable? Clifford has poor bat to ball skills abd Gilbert is injured. Your lust if untouchables is too long. U would love to get rid if Hanel abd Vasil. I agree with you about Baty.
@@jeffteyrosado9966 the Mets next yr will need 1B, + defender RF or CF, DH (no guarantee of Soto or Alonso so they need power as welL), at least 2 MAJOR LEAGUE very good-great starters with multiple MAJOR LEAGUE caliber arms to supplement the ineffective/injuries multiple relievers, so some of these positions will have to come from within. Money can’t buy championships if they don’t get the right players. The Mets can’t keep buying 30 yr+ free agents & trade away multiple top-end prospects. The Mets need to start getting these young players locked down & build around that core. Also, just as importantly they aren’t ONE PLAYER away this year or next from being legit contenders.
I honestly believe that the Mets getting hot and players overachieving during this hot streak has many people believing that the Mets are a better team than what they are.
