I had the rear end tinted with privacy film first when I got my MG ZS EV in January 2020 and between lockdown travelling from Essex to Somerset, we roasted in the car. My wife had to cover herself with one of those foil windscreen sun-shades. The standard glass I discovered has UV screening but NO IR screening so I've had a special thermal film fitted which is nearly visible from the outside but blocks 95% of the heat! Massive upgrade!

I have this exact same model, and have done a lot of these mods. The tints are not just for vanity especially for the driver and passenger windows it’s to reduce solar intrusion into the cabin as the windows offer minimal at best sun protection (when you get a hot day you bake in a non tinted ZS), on the LEDs I’m with you I replaced the rubbish Philips Halogen fronts with PIAA and they are pretty good, not LED but a damn sight brighter and more in keeping with the white DRLs, one LED I would consider keeping (if the previous owner did this) is the reversing lights as LEDs really help using the rear view camera if you have no exterior lighting at night / early dark winter morning. And I’ve done all seasons as well, went with Goodyear Vector 4 - Gen 2 and they got me out of a car park covered in black ice that had stranded cars in just after Christmas. Great review, and loving the content!

Thanks Matt for a very useful video. I have the same car and find it brilliant. I have had considerable loads on my roof bars, no problem. Unless you do more than 130 miles in a day fairly often the range is no problem, particularly considering I can travel between 60 and 70 miles for just £1.00 Fascinated to know how you get to the rear cluster bulbs, don’t tell anyone I am fitting a tow bar, only for cycle rack of course?? The rust issue you refer to is l believe restricted to a batch of cars that were manufactured in Singapore and imported into the UK early 2020. As we know cars are ' localized' and obviously underbody protection was not deamed necessary for the Singapore market. I have checked mine on a lift ( late 2020 model) and there are no signs of rust or weeping at welds. Apparently the VIN plate has a code for country of origin? The whole thing sounds like the Porsche 997 IMS bearing issue.......in reality very few cars were effected. :-)

Proper MG Locking Wheel Nuts, bizarrely with exactly the SAME nut ‘design’ as yours(!?), bought after a spate of Alloy thefts in our road(!) and the neighbouring one. £29.95, on eBay, from an approved (and checked) MG dealer. 5 minutes to fit, and you retain the spare wheel nuts, so you can replace them, if you wish, on disposal of the car. Also bought a proper MG space-saver spare wheel, from another approved MG dealer via eBay, to replace the ‘compressor/jollop’ standard solution - around £150, including the location ‘spinner’, jack and all required tools in an appropriate styrene holder. Well worth the investment IMO.

Great channel and loving your content.. Just started watching and currently have a 2013 Zoe which we've had since 2013. I wanted to ask if your able to test the range at all.. I drive very relaxed and (I'd like to think) efficiently.. Im thinking of buying one and selling on my zoe next month and would love to know the most you could get on the range with the air con off, display off etc on the motorway or in city driving :) thanks for the great content and totally appreciating the honest reviews

Only driving locally since I've got the MG, but in the winter, with the heating, air con and heated seat on all the time, I'm getting 3.1 mpkWh on average. But that is at its worse. And its been snowing the last few days. So that gives 130 miles range. But in the warmer weather, you'll be getting 4-4.5 mpkWh, so the range will be 170-190 miles.

This accessory comes as 'standard' on the ZS EV but can you check the roof rails for being proper ones, i.e. that you use for 60-80 kg loads or are they just for show? Plastic trim or made of metal? From Australia: I’ve never heard that term before “previous keeper” for previous owner!
@GoGreenAutos
@GoGreenAutos 3 года назад
The UK vehicle document (called a V5c) refers to "previous keepers". The person who the vehicle is registered too is a keeper as they may not be the owner. Most people finance new cars, so the owner is the finance company and the keeper is the driver/person who's leased the vehicle, typically for 3 years. So this is why we use the term "keeper" rather than "owner".

Great video. What is your opinion of upgrading wheel size? I recently test drove the MG5 EV Exclusiv model. I do think it would look better with slightly larger (only by one inch dia) wheels (as would the most recent Astra). As MG don't sell such, I would have to purchase from a alloy supplier. I suppose that the wheels supplied with the car would be redundant and would probably be unsaleable. Just interested to hear your views. Thanks.
@GoGreenAutos
@GoGreenAutos 3 года назад
Increasing the wheel size only decreases the tyre wall depth, so you will get a harder ride, more susceptible to punctures and you'll also get slightly less driving efficiency. But true it would look better.
@andyroid7339
@andyroid7339 3 года назад
@@GoGreenAutos Thanks for the swift reply! I actually mean the whole wheel would be 1-2" larger in diameter with larger wheels and tyres. I forgot to mention efficiency - I would imagine that the acceleration would be slower but top speed would increase slightly? Perhaps the regen would be less effective as the larger wheels would reduce the motor's rotational speed? Best Wishes.
@GoGreenAutos

Changing the lightbulbs to LED types, needs to be disclosed to the insurer, if not disclosed the insurer may refuse to honour the insurance. Which is their legal right. If the vehicle were involved in a serious collision (especially when visibility was likely a factor), the Police would likely look at the lights and they would easily establish that the bulbs were not OEM, and this might well affect any resulting legal liability.

So i guess, since the previous owner popped in LED's everywhere, that this means that there is no bulb monitoring on this car ? I know most modern cars nowadays, will complain if you put LED's in, because they draw a lot less current, and so the car thinks the bulb is blown, because the current draw of the LED is below the "The bulb is blown" threshold. I know it's probably not much, but it would be interesting to know if LED bulbs all around, instead of incandescent lamps, would actually make any real range difference. I mean, if the EU thinks it's worth turning off the headlamps and have just smaller LED's it could mean that there is actually a difference.
@GoGreenAutos
@GoGreenAutos 3 года назад
Not sure about bulb monitoring - never had any messages. Changing a 5W bulb to LED saves about 4W. However many of the lights are only on for short periods (internal lamps, indicators, brakes, reversing lights etc) so savings in energy are minimal. Its is only the side lights and headlights which are on for any periods of time. Power saving are just not going to make a noticeable difference.
@JohnDoe-bd5sz
@JohnDoe-bd5sz 3 года назад
@@GoGreenAutos Thank you for the answer. I agree, the only ones that would save some energy is the headlamps.. @JohnDoe-bd5sz
@JohnDoe-bd5sz 3 года назад
@@GoGreenAutos I will certainly look at the videos a bit later. Fitting bulbs other than the type, the car was approved with in my country is also a MOT failure, and if stopped by police and they find them, they will fine you AND make you go get a new MOT within 14 days, to prove you fixed it. This was made law a long time ago, because boy racers took HID kits and put them into old reflector style headlamps. I mean, the light was incredible and you could really see the road ahead, but oncoming traffic would be instantly blinded and end up with welding eyes, so they really cracked down on that. :) I guess putting a LED into a projector style lamp is not as intrusive for other motorists though :)

The window tinting is fine. Totally legal if you keep to the levels stated on the Gov U.K. website and inform insurer. I tools mine and only got charged about £20. All lights can be upgraded except for the headlights.

Seriously, all season tires are a waste of money. I have never ever fitted these tyres and have never had a problem. Stop wasting your money and live a great life on the open road…

I bought an MG ZS EV in July 2020 and had a minor accident in September 2020. It is now February 2021 and my car will not be repaired for a further 2 months. DO NOT TOUCH MG WITH A BARGE POLE.

The MG ZS Ev is such a terrible car... avoid it at all costs. The charge rage is ridiculous and in a full charge you probably only get 70miles... stay clear of it. Pay the extra and go for a better EV

Especially. that you can get ID for like 24k now... this ZS eV is a crazy purchase IMO

Well, you're obviously entitled to your personal opinion but if you're only getting 70 miles you're doing something very wrong. I test drove the ID.3, ZS and MG 5 and found the ZS to be a more comfortable and luxurious car. Even if it wasn't so very much cheaper than the ID.3 I'd have still gone for the ZS. Mind you, I hardly ever drive further than 120 miles in one go so I don't need that sort of range. If I did I'd have probably have gone for the MG 5 (although it does look rather dull).

Usually get 150 to 160 in mine. In winter. 170 - 180 in summer
