In Ez-Bass for the fretboarde to work correctly, you have to change the tuning to true Bass and then it works correctly, both VSTs are good depending on what you want, both have advantages and disadvantages. On Dandy you can't use the sound you want in different styles, Ez-Bass is more complete, with more sound options you just have to learn how to use it correctly, I prefer Mode Bass vst, But Bass Mode has no styles. For me as a producer and professional for over 35 years, what I really like is having someone playing a real bass guitar in my productions! 😉 All the best and keep making good videos.

Thanks Ray. I also like MODO Bass. I have a few other bass libraries I reach for, for different reasons, including Trilian and Modwheel’s The Lowdown. Every one of them has its use. I wouldn’t be surprised if I bought more in the future-bass is so important.

Really great video Reid. Thanks so much. You bring a seasoned maturity to your instruction that multitudes could learn from. This is exactly how I like to be taught. Thank you so much, Dougie. They take a long time to do. It would be easier to do “first look” or patch run-through videos, but I try to learn as much as I can and then share it. Not many people watch my videos, but I hope that over the coming years more will and will learn more about these virtual instruments. Try out the free demo on one of the ujam basses, and see if you like it.

Reid Rosefelt Greetings Reid, trust you're well and avoiding viruses of all kinds! Thanks to you, I'm demoing U-Jam's Stand-Up Bass as we speak. I can hardly believe how authentic sounding it is. Wow! Don't think I can do without this baby. Also demoing their virtual drummer - 'PHAT' to keep 'MELLOW' company. I wonder if they'd cut me a deal for the two?😂 I've been using ' Addictive' for quite a while but the ease of use in Phat is tempting. I chase Sync/Licensing opportunities and my productivity is all important. Thanks again for your amazing input. You make the Internet a civilised place to visit. Best to you and yours, dougie fraser

@@douglasfraser7960 Last year there was a 50% off sale on everything on the ujam site during Black Friday. Plus, there were some special flash sales, like Solid 75% off and Hustle $9.99. ujam gave away Carbon for free during a promo last month at PluginBoutique. So I would say wait until the end of November and see what happens. : ) FYI, I have a new video out now on Band in a Box.

Very useful comparison, well articulated in every sense of the word. You’ve certainly motivated me to pursue the Ujam Bass more fervently; I have the Reason Rack version which unfortunately omits some useful aspects but nevertheless still appears workable. EZbass looks and sounds superb despite a few negatives. The learning curve might prove a distraction too. Nice to have though.

Great video. I was so disappointed with EZ bass the moment I realized they did use all the same samples on every string when playing in high registers. That's a real letdown. So I bought Ejector Bass from Steinberg. Great plugin which forces you to learn thinking like a bassist as you got to play everything on the keyboard. Now I'm practicing styles like funk and Disco and so on and that overall improves my skills as a piano player and a composer, a lot. Highly recommended not to work with midi files or patterns. There's a great benefit from that approach for a musician on many levels. If you know the fundamentals (bass) of tracks, your music will get onto the next level. Keep it up. Cheers

That Steinberg bass looks really good. I almost went for it in their recent sale. In the past, one of the things I've always liked was playing bass parts into my DAW in real time. I did own a real bass, after all. But I also like playing live with ujam and sometimes I've found EZBass to be useful. It's quite fun to work with. It's good to have a lot of tools if you don't mind spending all that $$$. Thanks for writing!

@@ReidRosefelt you're welcome. I'm looking for bassline videos on RU-vid and practice to play them on the keyboard. Real fun and a lot to learn from. Yeah, the Steinberg bass is really good and they don't come up with a new library all 6 weeks to charge you 75 Euro like Toontrack. It already comes with three different bases. P, J and MusicMan. Cheers

As a ezbass user I think I finally get what ujam is all about ...its about jamming😀 played live with the virtual bassist and their drum plugins it was fun. I couldn't be bothered with exporting midi just recorded live bounced my recorded session out as audio
@ReidRosefelt
@ReidRosefelt 2 года назад
I still feel this way about the basses, but since I made this video I've come to believe that MIDI is the way to go with the Beatmakers. It's so easy to drag the patterns into your DAW and it's fun to use the patterns from one Beatmaker on any others you own. Thanks for watching.

Thank you, that's a great introduction video. I have the UJam guitars but not the basses, and was super excited about the release of EZ Bass, as I use their other products. Then I opened it. Wow, that looks the opposite of EZ! Seeing the ways of working with these as player/producer was really helpful, as was the tour. Keep going with the videos. You'll get your thousand.
@ReidRosefelt

Thank you so much, Phoenix. In some ways EZBass is very easy, but it’s very deep so in that sense it’s not easy if you want to get the most out of it. In terms of easy...One thing I got wrong in the video is the idea that ujam co-founder Peter Gorges made the ujam instruments easier because the musicians are different these days-less likely to play an instrument, know music theory, etc. That is totally wrong. He always made easy instruments, and he noticed that people like ujam co-founder Hans Zimmer liked to use them. Everything they make at ujam is easy to use, but that doesn’t mean that people like me who have been playing real instruments for decades can’t appreciate and use them.
@phoenixdaradia5897
@phoenixdaradia5897 3 года назад
@@ReidRosefelt Interesting about the Hans Zimmer link - I'd never have guessed. I think I'm going to spend some more time with the Ujam guitars and get a better sense of them in actual songs, and then see whether the basses will be a good add. Also there might be a special offer in the meantime! In terms of ease of use - playing intuitively and instantly getting a very usable start point - my money (and first resort for bass) is Spectrasonics' Trillian. I had it at Trilogy back in the day, and I still don't know my way round their ecosystem structure too well, but it almost doesn't matter because it sounds fine from the get-go. Some tweaking later, sure, but I get the sense of it quickly.
@ReidRosefelt
@ReidRosefelt 3 года назад
FYI, ujam had a 50% off sale last Black Friday. Making the video increased my desire to get Trilian. I have Omnisphere and Keyscape so it would be great to get it too. Also, the bass that Steinberg has for HALion also has some features no other virtual bass I’ve seen has. Can’t have enough bass!

Glad you liked it, Tim. It's been a long time since I made this, but now I would say that EZBass is currently the best tool for creating and editing MIDI bass patterns. And I think that the ujam basses are great for playing live. But in my opinion, there are many basses that sound better than the various EZBasses, like ujam's Dandy, Trilian, Modo Bass, and ones by Orange Tree Samples and Ample Sound (their free bass guitar is great). I will buy more EZBass MIDI, but not more of their basses.

Hi Jake. In Cubase if I select more than one track my keyboard plays both of them. It works well with Picked Acoustic and the ujam bass because they are on separate parts of the keyboard.

If I own a physical bass could you use UJAM Virtual Bassist rowdy as a amp/recording plugin? Or what plug-in would you recommend for recording an actual physical bass guitar? Thanks!
@ReidRosefelt
@ReidRosefelt 2 года назад
No, you can't route your bass audio through the ujam basses. However ujam sells Finishers products and they can be used as an effect in a DAW. But for recording a bass I would recommend IK's Amplitube or NI's Guitar Rig (there's a freee version) I don't have a bass, but there are lots of other highly regarded plugins for bass, by Kuassa, Mercuriall, and other companies. I'd do some searching around and get advice from bass players. Good luck!

@ReidRosefelt

You do need the shell to get Komplete Kontrol features with Virtual Bassist. I don’t think I ever opened it without KK, but the video was done over a long time. If you saw it without the shell then I wasn’t getting the NKS functionality at the time.

Yes. Right click on any of the knobs and you can choose a cc. If you have an NKS keyboard you can get more features if you load them in Komplete Kontrol. On some ujam instruments you can even change patches.
