Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad to help 🙂 I will take a close look at your suggestions, mainly regarding visiting Hoikkado. Either do some changes to the plan and see some places on my way in and out. OR... Definitely take internal flights into consideration. I checked and there are even direct flights from Sapporo to Shinshu-Matsumoto, so that maybe we'll be a good option. Thanks once again for your time and advice (and for Osaka Amazing pass 😂) Cheers!!

Surprising that they have those flights - but definitely worth looking at! If not this time, try to visit Hakodate in the future. The night view is IMO the best of all. Enjoy!

Once again great video !!! Currently planing my trip to Japan from 7.Mai to 11. June this year. Already figured out my route, including your hidden gems !! The only thing that really confuses me is which pass is the right one for me. My destinations will be: Haneda Airport - Tokyo Tokyo - Lake Kawaguchiko Kawaguchiko - Kyoto Kyoto - Osaka (+Nara) Osaka to Okayama (+Takamatsu) Okayama to Nagoya (+Magome Nakasendō) Nagoya - Takayama Takayama - Kanazawa Kanazawa - Tokyo Tokyo - Hokkaido I´ll propably will use the Shinkansen quite often. Im not sure if i will go to Hokkaido by Shinkansen aswell or just book a flight. However I´ll have one week in Hokkaido so i will traveling around there to which makes a regional pass worth it as well!!

Having a quick look at your plan, you might be OK buying separate regional passes, like Tokyo Wide, Kansai Wide, and then just single tickets for the rest. I think if you put all this into a rail pass calculator, you still won't make a nationwide one pay off, because you're using a lot of limited expresses. Looks like an awesome trip though - have fun!

Thank u so much !!!! U right, the full jr pass probably wont pay off. even though i use the shinkansen a few times. Due to the high price increase of the pass it is almost not possible to make it worth it !!! Definitely will check the regional pass! Thanks for your great work Andrew!

This is an amazing video thanks. I am doing a trip over the summer June-July for 3 weeks. I am going to be at Tokyo for 8 days. Then go to Osaka for 6 days and 4 more days in Tokyo. My idea is to do day trips and use Tokyo and Osaka as base. Going to Kyoto, Kobe and Nara when in Osaka and then try to stop on Mount Fuji on my way to Osaka. My guess is that single tickets would be best and maybe the tokyo and osaka passess there but would love your opinion.
@japanunravelled
@japanunravelled 4 месяца назад
Yes, single tickets between Tokyo/Osaka, and look at the city/regional passes for trips while you're there.

As always, another great video! Thanks so much for all these helpful information! By the way, we’re planning a trip to Hakone from Asakusa. I’m wondering if you could suggest the quickest way to get to Hakone-Yumoto station ? We would be coming from our Asakusa View Hotel. A million thanks in advance for your assistance!
@japanunravelled
@japanunravelled 3 месяца назад
Probably just take JR from Ueno down and change at Odawara. You can also take a direct limited express from Shinjuku, but then it takes time to get across there.

Thanks for answering my question. I will look into booking a plane ticket from Narita to Hiroshima, I didn't realize flying would be so much cheaper than taking the train. I might stay at a hotel close to Narita airport my first night. I didn't consider staying overnight in Miyajima, I think I'll do that. Are there no regional passes that I could buy to decrease the cost? Is it cheaper if I just buy single tickets plus the Tokyo Wide Pass? Thanks for all your help.

@japanunravelled 8 месяцев назад
The only pass that gets you from Tokyo to Hiroshima is the Japan Rail Pass, but that's way too expensive now for it to pay off for you. Another option would be to fly into Osaka or Fukuoka. That would give you other options but I know that doesn't work for everyone. You could use the Kansai Hiroshima pass, but you'd have to break your journey from and to Tokyo in Osaka to make that work, which is why I didn't include it.

Hello, your videos are really informative. I'm thinking of taking a trip with eki stamps in focus. Is there any spesific stations or travel route you would recommend?
@japanunravelled
@japanunravelled 8 месяцев назад
Really depends on your interests. One unusual thing to do would be taking the so-called "Joyful Trains". These usually have their very own stamp, often with unique free postcards to stamp.

Hey! Been eating up all your videos about Japan as I'm planning my first trip there! Thank you so much for explaining the details so well and sharing with us Japan's great gems! 🙌 Been a true savior decoding such a complex task. I was wondering if you could help me out on a couple legs of my trip, regarding the types of pass I should get. So currently it's looking like: 3 full days in Osaka + 1 Day trip to Kobe + 1 Day trip to USJ, then going to Hiroshima, spending the night there, during the day visit Miyajima, then go to Kyoto and spend 3 days there + 1 Day Trip to Arashiyama + 1 day trip to Nara. Nara Trip could be moved to when I'm in Osaka of course. What's your opinion about getting the JR Kansai + Hiroshima Pass (after price increase 17,000 yen for 5 days) for a portion of this trip (was thinking of using it during USJ day trip + Hiroshima/Miyajima (2 days) + Arashiyama day trip + extra day with JR pass in either Osaka or Kyoto). This pass drew my attention because of the Hiroshima region being included but it's a 5 day pass and Idk if it's worth it... After Kyoto, heading to Fujikawaguchiko early and stay the night, explore the area and then continue to Hakone (staying one night aswell). I see you've talked about Hakone Free Pass but I also found the Fuji Hakone Pass (for Fujikawaguchiko and Hakone) that is valid for 3 days. Should I get the pass that covers both areas or should I just buy the hakone pass and get around fujikawaguchiko by single fare tickets? For reference I was thinking of doing in Fujikawaguchiko (over a day and a half) at least seeing Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba, Chureito Pagoda and Fuji Shibazakura Festival (as I'm going in April) and maaaaybe Oshino Hakkai if I have time? After this going to Tokyo for 4 days. Worried if all of this is doable actually 😅 Would love your input! Thank you so much! 😄

Kyoto - Hiroshima round trip is over 22,000 yen or so. Get the pass. As for Hakone/Kawaguchiko, not sure. You need to look at the details and check with your plan. Bear in mind that it's going to be busy there in April, so book ahead as much as you can for any trains, etc. Have fun!
@nastap10
@nastap10 4 месяца назад
Thank you so much for replying! @@japanunravelled Yes, from what I've seen it might be worth it. The Hakone Pass is 6100 yen and the Fuji Hakone Pass is 9340 yen (which includes everything that hakone pass has + extra day of validity + Fuji area buses/trains + One-way ticket from Shin-Matsuda Station to Shinjuku Station which comes in handy as I'm going to Tokyo next). What is concerning me is how I'll go from Kyoto to Fujikawaguchiko. Probably will have to pay single fare shinkansen to Mishima and from there a bus to Fujikawaguchiko paying single fare aswell. From what I searched it seems like the best time/cost option? Thank you!
@japanunravelled
@japanunravelled 4 месяца назад
You can also take a bus from Nagoya to get there. Not sure what the cost/time balance looks like, but another option for you.

Hmmm, hadn't thought about Nagoya@@japanunravelled , thanks for the tip! Will look into it, see if it's a better gateway that Mishima. Thank you so much and keep the awesome work you do! Subscribed both your channel and your newsletter :)

We are travelling to Japan in may. 5 nights in Tokyo ( day trip to kawaguchiko mt Fuji ) 2 nights in Kanzawa ( day trip to takayama / shirakawago) 5 nights in Osaka (visit Kyoto , Nara , Kobe ) 1 night in Hiroshima ( visit Miyajima) 1 night in Tokyo Do you think above itenary is doable in May and what trains do you recommend.And is there a pass we could potentially use for some part of our trip. Jr passs doesn’t seem to be cost effective. Thank you for your advice and all the videos.

Hello! 👋 I’ve watched so many videos that I’m kind of confused on which passes i need to navigate Japan 🇯🇵. What I’m planning is: -from Narita airport to Tokyo for a total of 7 days (in which I will do a day trip to Mount Fuji & another in Hakone) -then from Tokyo to Kyoto for 5 days (in which I will do a day trip to Nara & another Osaka) -lastly, from Kyoto back to Tokyo for another 5 days. With your expertise, what do you believe is the ideal passes I need that are worth it and will save me money? 🤔
@japanunravelled
@japanunravelled 3 месяца назад
For hakone and Fuji, look at the hakone freepass, Fuji hakone pass or Tokyo wide pass maybe. Then just get single shinkansen tickets between Tokyo and Kyoto and use an IC card for the rest.
