I'm quite surprised that corner sharpness isn't mentioned at all. The image quality from a larger port will be significantly better. For example, the 16-35 f/2.8 with the 6 inch port turns corners into mush. For a full frame wide lens, you'd want even larger - 12 inches if possible. Unfortunately Seafrogs only do domes up to 8 inches. But not mentioning the IQ aspect specially at the edges and corners makes the review look incomplete.

Hi! Thanks for the valuable feedback. Yes in general I don't focus too much on pixel peeping and corner sharpness for most of my review videos but I can understand some consumers might want answers to that. I might provide an update to this video further down the road. Thanks again!
@ashic
@ashic 2 года назад
@@BernardLau1991 The issue is beyond pixel peeping though. For the A7iii with the 16-35 GM, even at f/8 or f/12, only the centre portion of the frame is usable. The corners and edges are just blurry. This is less of an issue with the higher MP cameras like the A7Riv or the A1, but with the A7iii, the croppability isn't much, so it can cause problems. It's not just the corners... the edges are blurry as well... only the centre 2/3rds of the image is in sharp focus. The 8 inch would improve this considerably.

For the 6 inch dome you discuss. Is that a dry dome when you do over/under shots? Or is there a film of liquid that you want to have on the portion that is out of the water?

Whata the difference between acrylic / glass dome port?
@BernardLau1991
@BernardLau1991 11 месяцев назад
I believe that glass would be more durable and won't get scratches so easily. I also think the image quality would be slightly better but I have not done a side by side comparison.

So the best is the 24-75 for all the dome ports??
@BernardLau1991
@BernardLau1991 3 года назад
24-70 is my go focal length on land. However if I were to shoot underwater, I would actually go for the 16-35 focal length as my first choice. Also, I don’t think the 24-70 is compatible with all the dome ports. You might want to check their website 😁

I checked the SeaFrogs website and they don't have the 4 inch dome .Is the 4 inch dome port the same as the 6 inch dome port for surfing. I have the 6 inch dome but if I use a small lens (short in length 80mm), wide angle like the Loxia 21 mm lens, I noticed vignetting as Len is far from the front of the port. I plan to get the Venus Laowa 9mm lens and use it with the 6 inch dome part but there might be more vignetting due to the wider lens. Not sure if the 4 mm will be better as it is shorter and the lens will be closer to the front of the dome and less vignetting>
@BernardLau1991
@BernardLau1991 2 года назад
I’m not sure if they still have it. You can always write in to check. The 4inch is def difference from the 6inch. Maybe they discontinued it? And also ask them if the laowa lens is compatible with the port. 9mm is very wide. 🤔

@@johnboy4584 oh. will that vignetting effect happen on the 8 inch? I would avoid this combination if there would be vignetting but that also depends on how particular you are. Why don't you consider other lens options? haha

Hello Benard, I just had a quick question regarding lease compatibility. Do you know if the 8" dome port would be compatible with the Tamron 17-28mm 2.8? It says the 6" is but there isn't any mention of it in regards to the 8". It is to he housed with a Sony A7RIV. Sorry to be a menace, just can't find any information regarding it's compatibility.

Thanks for that really, I'm trying yo understand the difference of image quality or field of view between a curved port and the flat one, especially when using the 16-35. Any feedback on that?
@BernardLau1991
@BernardLau1991 2 года назад
Hey! Tbh, I don’t have proper side by side comparisons, so I’m going to make some assumptions. I think having a dome port will cause the image to distort a bit as compared to a flat port. But tbh, I’m not particular about it so I don’t notice it. A flat port wont let you do the half in half out shots as Easily. So if you want to do that, you don’t have a choice but to go with dome ports.

It should be fine at the longer focal length but at 16mm you will likely have significant distortion, its too wide for a flat port.
