I think the Pocket Pro, CED, & PACT timers are overpriced, but the 2 newer ones in this video seem to have enough features to make the price reasonable, IMO.
Two comments on two very different companies. Baer solutions: fantastic, took a class and was awesome. AMG labs: avoid at all costs. Ordered a timer 7 months ago and have heard nothing, despite multiple emails... email being the only contact method they publicly provide. Even if I did ever receive a timer, I can’t imagine having to deal with them if there was an issue.
Can confirm. I actually finally got my timer.....I can't even count how many months after. Super late. The timer is actually great...really easy to use. Customer service, particularly communication, is absolutely abysmal. I'd rather buy 2 other "inferior" timers within the same timeframe or shell out for the Kestrel than buy another AMG.
@@AdventTraining I’ve had those for years and never knew that. A bunch of other guys I know with then didn’t know that either. Thanks for the info and I appreciate it.
Really enjoying your content, I was introduced to you through dirty civilian… I hope you do more work with them. A shot timer is that friend that doesn’t lie to you and makes you better.
If you have an Apple Watch, shot buddy is so good. Gives you a vibration on your wrist as well as a beep and with the sensitivity changes you can be in an indoor range and it doesn’t pick up others shots
Everyone should be training 50%-80% of their rep's with dry fire and air soft. In my experience, the Global and Commander have the sensitivity to pick up the hammer/striker drop. The other two do not. Depending on the phone used, the Ipsc app will also register dry fire if adjusted correctly, however, the app timers have some limitations.
I ordered directly from their website. Takes a couple weeks to get here. They moved their operations from Ukraine to Poland to be able to ship and update the app.
I love my AMG Commander. Works great with live and dry fire. I use it in concert with Dry Fire Mag for dry fire. Comes with a protective case (various colors). Found a belt clip for it on Esty for $25.00.
14:50 Rechargeable Internal Battery 🪫 Major downfall in design… especially for such an expensive shot timer. Would recommend Kestrel shot timer for that price with CR123 batteries.
Just pre ordered the SG shot timer. Awesome video much appreciated. My pact works most of the time but it got rained on for a few hours and hasn't worked great since
Man, I just picked up my second pact pro because the first just magically turned off one day. Now I'm thinking about returning it and trying the sg global...
I couldn't justify spending $130 on PACT timer that has a tiny screen, cheap body, and all it does it gives us beeps... I'm interested in shooter global.
The SG timer looks really interesting. Is there a way to have the phone app store all the data from a training session so I can review it later (without using the video function)? Currently, my range sessions take twice as long because I write down my times and splits for almost every rep of every drill. Also, it looks like the SG timer’s delayed start can’t be randomized? That’s a major bummer.
As a frequent visitor to indoor shooting ranges, I've experienced the limitations of sound-based shot timers firsthand. That's why I've decided to work on developing a trigger sensor, which will provide a more reliable and personal solution for tracking shooting times in environments like these. More testing on a variety of weapons in the next two weeks. It shall complement existing shot timers
@@tsoliot5913 Thanks. In fact it passed the test in the range with both handguns and rifles a few days ago with flying colors. Next step is to make it attachable to all guns without extra adapters.
Long time military and Law enforcement shooter , just new to IDPA and timers , I want one so this is a great video. You did a great job explaining everything. I was given a Competition Electronics Pocket Pro and it doesn’t work, now I know I can send it in , thank you for that!
I ordered and paid for the Commander 1-6-23. I recieved it in the middle of this January, 2024. I repeatedly contacted the maker with🎉 no response. Last fall, he finally said he had delays in sourcing needed chips, etc.. This is probably true considering the shortage of electronic components recently, but, I gave up on ever getting it. So, when the SG TIMER GO came out, I ordered it. I received it fairly quickly, but, there were no operating instructions from any reliable source. I contacted the company and they said they had not completed any instructions. Finally, they produced a pretty good instructional video in January 2024. Each of these were about $150. Now, I have two high-quality timers to spend many hours with trying to learn how to use them. Based on what I know so far, I believe I will find that one will be good at some things while the other is better in different areas. We'll see.
I have a pact timer, and it’s great, but it doesn’t work with my suppressed ARs. I’ve tried the adjustment screw, but it doesn’t make a difference. Has anyone had luck with a shot timer and suppressed weapons?
I cannot recommend the SG Smart timer. I order mine In July. I still haven't received it. Communication is sparse as well. None outside of sales buy our app emails. Looks cool here but worthless if you can't get it.
@@chrisosterfund9784 how long was your wait? I ordered July 13th 2022. I haven't received it yet. I get the Ukraine invasion issue. That sucks for sure. But I still couldn't recommend it. If you need/want a timer. This isn't it. Not right now at least. I'm at 7 months wait and counting. Those are NFA wait times.
Shotmaxx 2 - it’s a wrist unit that measures the shockwave in your wrist rather than the sound of the shot ( it can do both ) Mine’s been working very well for years now . I use it for busy indoor range training.
Not necessarily. I don’t currently own a shot timer and I can run pretty much all of my guns better than most shooters. Now granted I do compete in 2 Gun, 3 Gun and IDPA and shoot about 200-300 rounds a week, but you don’t need a shot timer to be a good shooter (even though it can further develop your skills.)
@@ethanmccracken6489 lol. You shoot competitions and train with several hundred rounds per week and you don’t use a shot timer? Sounds like your training is unfocused trash. It’s like being a competitive runner and saying that you don’t time your tempo runs or intervals. How do you gauge improvements during live and dry fire? How do you know where to focus your efforts in training to shore up discrepancies? If you aren’t timing yourself during training, you’re pissing into the wind. Serious question: what do your typical dryfire and livefire training sessions look like? How do you know if the dryfire training is carrying over to livefire performance if you aren’t recording times and points?
@@EuropaChronicles I’m not saying I don’t have experience on a timer. They use them in pretty much all of the competitions I’ve competed in, so I do gather data when I compete. I can distinguish bad runs from ok runs to good runs based on the amount of reps I do each week. Is it a perfect science? No. But it’s good enough to get me wins and placements if I don’t win. Now to your question regarding my dry fire drills. I use dry fire drills mainly to keep my draws and reloads sharp and consistent. Since I shoot every week, live fire is where I really practice things like shot placement, cadence of fire, control, and trigger resets. I do plan on buying a shot timer soon so I can track things during training more accurately, but don’t assume that someone whom you’ve never shot with has trash training. I guarantee you if we went to the range together, your opinion of my abilities would change. The only shooting sport I don’t have much experience in is PRS, and I’m starting to become more involved in that now as well since I just got a membership to a 1000 yard range a week ago.
Helpful video. I assume you value improvement in all aspects of your training and performance; may I suggest you work on your verbal tic of ending every sentence with "right?" It's extremely annoying to listen to for some people. Rock on.
this is 8 months after you posted but, the feature i like best on the pact timer is the delay is randomized each time. also it seems the amg also has its own app, not as in depth as the shooters global but its a nice feature.
