Today I’m comparing the Logitech MX Keys Mini vs Apple’s Magic Keyboard. These are the two best keyboards out right now if you are looking for a portable low profile chiclet style keyboard to add to your Mac, iPad or even PC. The MX Keys Mini with it’s backlit keys as well as Apple’s Magic Keyboard with it’s truly great design, each keyboard has it’s own unique strengths and features. Both keyboards price at $99. MX Keys Mini, is less mini compared to the Magic Keyboard. Both have a metal looking frame, thought only on Magic Keyboard is actual aluminium. The keyboards are slightly angled. MX Keys Mini charges with USB C, 5 months, 10 days with backlight. Magic Keyboard charges with lighting, 2 months. MX Keys Mini has light grey keys. MX Keys Mini is the Mac version so like the Magic Keyboard it has Mac OS function keys. The Magic Keyboard has flat white keys. Both keyboards take a minimalistic approach to their design, to me the Magic Keyboard looks best. The aluminium frame gives a real sense of quality. Still full size but is physically smaller than MX Keys Mini. Also lighter, less than half the weight. Easier to take with on the go. What about the typing experience? Both use a scissor switch chiclet style mechanism that offers a more narrow typing experience, there are some differences. The MX Keys Mini’s keys have a circular indent to match the shape of your finger. In reality this makes little difference, is quite easy to get used to. The magic Keyboard has flat keys that feel familiar to typing on MacBooks. Compared to the MX Keys Mini the keys are more clicky in terms of the sound and tactile feedback. The keys on the MX Keys Mini provide more key travel. Overall the typing on both keyboards is great.The MX Keys Mini does have something special, backlit keys. The backlight is white, no RGB. Uses proximity sensors detect your hands. Brightness is adjusted automatically, can also be adjusted manually on the keyboard. Gets bright enough to see in any situation where having backlight is helpful. Both the MX Mini as well the Magic Keyboard are bluetooth. The MX Keys Mini offer multi-device support. What’s the verdict? 100$ is a significant amount of money, with that in mind, I am glad to say that both the MX Keys Mini and Apple Magic keyboard deliver and should last for years. Both are quality keyboards that have a comfortable typing experience. If design is your priority the Magic Keyboard wins. It is the definition of a minimalistic modern and clean design. On the other hand, the backlit keys on the MX Keys Mini are really nice to have. Even for someone like me who types without looking at the keyboard, those moments when you briefly look down to position you hands or use the function keys. Which would I choose? I am fond of both keyboards, for me the perfect keyboard would be a combination of the two. Basically a Magic Keyboard with backlit keys, apple get on it!

I went with Magic Keyboard . The main deal breaker for me was the Touch ID. I loved the MX Keys Mini & really wanted to get it as it had all features I wanted but with Mac you use Touch ID a lot and this sealed the decision for me. Thanks for this great video . 🙏🏻

@@RajanKannan11 I went for MX Keys regular size as the same was available at 30% lower on Amazon renewed option. I am happy with the buy as it was exactly as a new one and the I have changed the setting of password entry on the browser with a touch ID. So, that reduced the TOUCH ID requirement only for the logins to the Mac.

Honestly, you made a clear argument that the MX Mini is clearly the winner. The Apple keyboard has several shortcomings that were innovatively integrated into the keyboard: the backlight function, long-lasting charge, & ergonomically better. I am a minimalist but, I am also a maximalist. I need the best bang for the EDC or just all my devices. Sounds like the MX Mini is better.

As a user of mechanical keyboards, electrocapacitive keyboards, membrane scissor mechanism and more, the apple magic keyboard does not compare with anything in terms of experience, it is just perfect, perfect sound, perfect acuation force, simple, minimal, timeless, it is simply incredible.

@@sebastiancanoncastellanos4409My magic keyboard just died (coffee 😢). It has been so good to me as a real writer -- the best ever -- it is hard for me to not get another. Yet, the Logitech price has gone down and now there are bluetooth keyboard available for less than $30.

I've been hammering away at a Magic Keyboard I borrowed and found typing surprisingly satisfying. However the cursor keys to the bottom right is too small and I end up pressing "shift" instead of "up" many times. The MX cursor keys (may) have a better layout (the "up" key still sits close to the "shift" but is left empty to either side which may help feel like the "up" button for the user). That's possibly the only downside I find on the Magic Keyboard.

I have both. I think you're underestimating the difference in feel, which only becomes more pronounced the more you sue them. MX Keys is like typing on a pillow. Magic Keyboard is like typing on metal. MX Keys does feel a bit slower to type on though. But still worth it for the overall softer feel.

i have all three generations of the magic keyboard and recently picked up the mx keys for mac and it is my favorite keyboard of all i've ever owned. I spent nearly $300 on a Das 4 mechanical with a usb-c and audio input on it with blank keycaps and i prefer the typing experience on the mx keys to the Das. I really enjoy my brother's keychron, too, but I really enjoy the feel of the mx keys, again, I'm running the mac specific mx keys (full sized). Either way, they're all pretty nice keyboards.

In the past I have had to purchase 2 Apple magic keyboards because they keep failing as well as 2 magic trackpads as well. the keys get stuck all the time. Enough. I bought the Logitech MX keyboard and the MX Master 3 mouse for my mouse and I have had it for over a year. No problems, except that often times the Mac will come out of sleep mode.

Hi Michael, if you switch between two devices and especially if it is between an Apple and a window, I would go for the MX Keys Mini. It has easier functionalities to cope with switching.

I have used Thinkad T480, P1Gen2 and Macbook magic keyboards (both on laptops and wireless) and I found the MX mini to be the superior typing experience. One can pair the Mac with the best feature of a Thinkpad, the excellent keyboard. MX mini, having an 1,8mm travel, feels identical to my P1Gen2.

For touch typing, the magic keyboard is simply terrible. After the keyboard in the MacBook it is not possible to use it. In the end, wasted money. (especially if you're used to a MacBook laptop keyboard) A very big problem and this is the difference between the magic and the keyboard in a MacBook is the free space above the arrows. They can be used in touch typing on a MacBook and are completely impossible on a magic device. After 2 weeks I still haven’t gotten used to it. I bought a second keyboard MX KEYS mini for mac. And it's a pleasure. It's heavier and feels more plastic, but it's very comfortable. The layout of the buttons on MX Keys it is almost like on a MacBook Pro. No need to get used to it, you can work immediately after using your MacBook

Apprently the white version of the Mx keys makes it hard to read the letters with the backlight on. The dark version should be better to see what letters you are tipping. Not mentioned in the test unfortunately.

I would love to use the apple magic keyboard but I think it's a horrible decision when used on multiple devices, especially when switching between windows (private) and macos (homeoffice). What's your opinion?

Hi, thanks for your comment! It's difficult when switching between Windows and MacOS as the keyboard can only have function keys specific to one OS. Though when it comes to using multiple devices, the MX Keys Mini will be the better option since you can quickly switch between devices using the integrated shortcut keys, will be more convenient than the Magic Keyboard. I bought the MX keys mini (Graphite color) for using with my MacBook while it's on an elevated stand and I actually ended up being quite disappointed with it. For one, I thought that I would like the graphite color because it would match my MX vertical mouse, but the problem was that because my studio room is a little bit dark, without having the backlight on (which drains battery and honestly I prefer to keep off) it was really hard to see the keys. Moreover, the MX keys paired with my MacBook proved annoying because I was no longer able to adjust the brightness on my MacBook easily with the keyboard because the computer pairing buttons are there on the keyboard in the place of the brightness buttons. So, I ended up remapping the keyboard backlighting keys to compensate, but then it basically rendered the keyboard backlight useless, which is a big feature of this keyboard. So, then I tried just making the emoji and screenshot keys to function as the brightness up and down keys instead, but that still felt confusing and unintuitive, plus I felt like I was getting rid of other semi-useful keys. So, I decided to try the apple magic keyboard instead upon watching a couple reviews (like this one!) and I liked the idea of having the brightness keys back. And after using this keyboard for a month now, I honestly very much prefer the feel of this keyboard. - I really like the quick punchy impact of these keys more than the more squishy MX keys. - I prefer having less of an upward angle (I've heard that causes more wrist strain). - I like that it's metal and yet much lighter. And even though the battery's not quite as good and there's no backlight, I think the keyboard's feel and ease of use makes up for that. I do like the idea of being able to share the MX keys with my wife's computer too if she wants to use this laptop stand, but if I were to do that, I would definitely buy a white colored keyboard this time, and I would still be annoyed with not being able to adjust the brightness of my laptop So I just sold the MX keys mini for 90% of what I bought for. A good test run, but I think I'm not quite sold on it for my specific and picky purposes.

I just bought the apple wireless keyboard. So far - zero lag and very light. I use it with my ipad. I’m moving from a logitech 10.5 combo touch case and the apple keyboard has a slightly larger layout/keys. Its also slightly deeper key presses. Its no mechanical keyboard. But a good compromise.

I went for the MX Keys Mini but didn't like the Fn key layout - some of the Apple Fn were not there. So I returned it and bought the Full size MX Keys for Mac and I love it, slightly heavier but has all the Fn keys in the correct place plus some extras. Weight wis a bit heavier, but as I use an iMac, then that is not an issue. the weight keeps the keyboard from slipping, even on shiny smooth surfaces. Toped that off with ditching the tendon straining magic mouse for a M720 - belissimo.

I'm a windows user and the way the apple magic keyboard feels is elegant to me. The logitech MX keys are just a tad bit too stiff.

I bought the MX Keys mini 2 days ago and I am thinking in return due the sensor problem. The backlit is turning ON by it self all the time and I found tons of people with the same problem and nothing to do. There is no firmware or answer from Logitech.

Hey, you forgot to mention you can use the magic keyboard as a USB keyboard and pairing with another Mac is so easy: just plug it once. I can even access the bios on my PC with it. This also allows to overcome BT interferences in crowded environments. And when the battery depletes you can still use the magic kb while the mx keys goes to the trash. I don't understand why all other wireless keyboards won't connect over USB.

HI Allen, The Apple keyboard also works on Window laptops, but it does has some Apple specific keys, that do not work on Windows. So if you mainly work on a Windows laptop it is better to chose the Logitech Mini

I cannot hear that difference(good enough). Sorry but if you want more professional approach, maybe do a close mic recording on both, and do a bit more of sound test, and change from one to the other without talking, so that you can hear the difference clearly.

Great video. I like my keyboard as flat as light as possible, so for me Apple Magic Keyboard wins. I haven't found a keyboard more flatter than Apple's yet. The flatness is easier on wrists on my opinion.

I prefer the Magic Keyboard. It takes way less time to reconnect after fell into sleep mode, the Logitech one and most of other Bluetooth keyboards always struggle to reconnect. And also something it runs into input lags for some reasons, which the Magic Keyboard doesn’t. If I have to pick a Logitech Keyboard, I’ll get one with a 2.4G dongle since it will have way better connection.

Eventhough I love everything about the Magic Keyboard/Magic Mouse 2, I ended up trading mine for a MX Keys Mini/Anywhere because I have not enough money to afford an iMac on desktop meaning that I had to choose a multi-device set to minimalize my work space.

I think the fact that this logitech mx mini wont work in wired mode, i wont be able to use it in the bios which is a little annoying for me because of my job. Such a shame, i guess I'll wait for a newer version that has wired capabilities

I think it can work with the usb unifying receiver. I agree though it’s stupid that it doesn’t work via usb. Same with the mx master mice. Paying $100 for a mouse that can’t be used wired
