My biggest gripe with the sequels, particularly JJ Abrams film, is the utter lack of new or interesting art designs. It's all just the same thing with a new paint job, downright bland, or of course, completely hidden behind his poor lighting, and mountains of motion blur.

I think that this list pulls each ship out of context. The Solar Sailer was made to get Count Dooku places without getting detected, the TIE X-1 was made as an EXPERIMENT to put a turbo laser on a snub fighter, the cloud car was a civilian ship which was NOT MEANT FOR BATTLE, and the Resistance Transport was a refit B-wing which was made to show how much of a rag-tag group the Resistance truly was.

how is the K-Wing on the list while the "Resistance Bomber" is not, if the resistance had a half dozen K-Wings they would have taken down the dreadnaught without losses. The bomber which literaly had to get on top of the target to drop bombs, was absolutely the worst design I have seen in Star Wars. The K-Wing is extremely well armed, it was literaly designed to kill capital ships and get its crew back alive, and it did its designed role rather effectively in the (extended universe) Black Fleet Crisis novels.

Dude, k-wing is the best, and looks badass. Can't complain, the biggest "complaint" you guys made is "like it had too many weapons". It's a Star Wars version of an A-10 THUNDERBOLT, more weapon than wing is tha point.

I adore the solar sailor for the flavor it adds to Dooku’s character. He’s sophisticated, well-read, and progressively minded leader with a taste for the finer things in life. He strengthened diplomatic relations with Poggle the Lesser by buying the sail and ship, thereby expressing his interest in Geonosian history and tech.

Hey! The K-wing is not all that bad!

The K wing is by far one of the most valuable starships in the New Republic's arsenal, simply because of its role and the Imperial space warfare doctrine. The Imperial Fleet put a very heavy emphasis on capital ships, so much so that the ships often had too little anti-starfighter weapons. A wing of heavy bombers like the K-wing could utterly devastate an Imperial fleet within minutes if allowed to operate unmolested. Really the only criticism of the ship is that it's highly specialized, which means there are some potential logistics issues in maintaining a ship when considering the New Republic's situation.

The K-wing reminds me of the A-10 Warthog ground jet. It is not as sleek as other jets and seems over armed but it is exactly the type of military vehicle needed when trying to punch through an obstacle in battle.

I think the k wing looks awesomely badass! And I think the main issue with the 1st order was their lack of resources. They poured all their credits, resources and time into recreating the empires massive scale that they didn't have the capability of fully fleshing out their armada. That and they suffered from a drastic lack of sound leadership, which of course was your point all along.

I always thought the K-Wing was the most badass thing the rebels came up with. It has coverage on air and ground, with two viewports for a pilot and copilot, and TONS of weaponry. Dissing the K-Wing is like dissing the Apache AH-64. Not a good idea.

Ok. Why are you talking about Dooku's solar sailer in terms of vulnerability like lasers....when it's not a combat ship? It doesn't go into battle. As for space debris...SW has shields for that. Honestly don't know why a purely civilian design is doing on a list of fighters, patrol vessels and military transports.

To be fair to the Confederacy, the Solar Sailer was Dooku's personal ship; it wasn't mass produced, and it wasn't intended for war. It was meant to take him places secretly, like how he (as the Head of State of the enemy) was able to slip onto Coruscant at the end of AOTC to meet with Palpatine.

How these got destroyed and what it took. Death Star I: Rebels got lost ucky that Galen Erso made the flaw. Executor SSD: Rebels took down deflector shields and luckily the empire had over exposed bridges. Death Star II: Luckily the Rebels got there while DS2 was still in construction. Starkiller base: Rey and friends somehow didn’t die while setting the charges against dozens of stormtroopers and Poe luckily found a opening just big enough for a x-wing to go through with its s foils down and in and sideways. FO Dreadnaught(Last Jedi): Luckily the turrets and whatnot on the hull are nearly blind and can’t take out one fighter and luckily there’s one spot the for some reason is super weak and can be destroyed by one bomber. Supremacy: Actual ingenuity. Though an unnecessary sacrifice. These are all my interpretations please don’t hate me for stating these.

I think the TIE X-1 makes sense, assuming it has the range of capital ship Turbolasers, you can just get a massive swarm (which the empire seems to love) and just bombard and overwhelm the en,y at a distance with small, relatively maneuverable ships, forcing the rebels to attack without having an interdictor.

I'm surprised the Resistance Bomber wasn't on this list, but I guess the transport is also pretty bad.

The TIE M1 was a remote-controlled starfighter (no pilot = doesn't need much protection) and quite fast. And in the X-Wing Alliance game its turbolaser had a high rate of fire and caused a lot of damage to starfighters.

I love the K-Wing because it's very similar to some designs I came up with for something as a kid. I took the space flyer thing from that one short from the DVD of Halo animations, which several SPARTANs rode, in space, to board a Covenant ship with Dr. Halsey aboard. Then I combined that with an A-10 Thunderbolt Warthog, but instead of the Halo ship thing's missile pylons angling up, they angled down from the A-10 Thunderbolt's fuselage. So it had a similar general shape.

Does anybody else love his outro, it makes me smile every time.

So no Republic category? That mean the Republic was superior to the Empire and the First Order as far as ships concerned? I mean yeah I can get behind that, but it's still strange to include all factions but the Republic.

You didn't mention that the Empire started switching to TIE Interceptors because the wing profile was smaller, gathered more energy, and created less drag than the traditional hexagonol wing. When I saw the first order only using hexagonal wing TIE fighters THIRTY YEARS LATER, I pretty much flipped my table.

I feel like the tie variant could be a good interceptor in a traditional sense rather than a Star Wars sense - good at knocking out Y-Wings and other strike fighters

Solar sail is not a battle ship, you are comparing a deluxe limo with a pistol to a tank

The K-wing reminds me of what if the A-10 evolved into an space armor killer and the rebel transport is kinda reminiscent of the Eagle from Space 1999 and the drop ship/shuttlecraft from Space Above and Beyond.

All of the ships and/or tactics in TLJ were terrible. The power of each side shifted depending on how much plot armor each side needed for each poorly written segment to take place.

I love the first order destroyers… the big ass planet killer gun can be destroyed by a little blaster fire which rips the whole ship in half. Even a cloud car can destroy those easily

eh, I could see some plays with the Tie X-1 namely It could probably work decently at hitting targets at far ranges and then using the Tie maneuverability to get out of trouble making it ok as a hit and run fighter, particularly against stationary targets. This could work really well if you had several wings working in a rotation flying pattern. Where they would line up their shots get in range fire and fall back well the next wing lines up the shots. This also has the advantage of being able to strike from outside the traditional range of a fighter so enemy escorts would have to range further. That said another wing would probably be a good send for landing the damn thing, and if they moved the turbo laser to slightly below the cockpit in the traditional firing area it would probably be a lot better. Still, it would only truly shine against stationary or slow-moving targets.

Wait if the K wing is a thing then why would you ever make a bomber like in The last Jedi.

How did you possibly not include the super slow bombers from Ep 8? So defenseless and slow, they have to fly in a tight huddle - so close, a chain reaction can blow them all up...

Incredible cross sections seems to imply Dooku’s sailer is a custom designed vehicle: A Geonosian Punworcca 119 class sloop modified to mount a sail supplied by Dooku.
