Great video, especially the cutting of the tube was a nice touch. Now I can finally see why the Cardiology IV is better than the III. I am using at this time Littman Select for a few years and I really had trouble to hear anything, especially in patients with a few extra pounds, so I am definitely going for an upgrade from a Littman Select to a Cardiology IV. Thanks ! =)

Which one do you think would be better in noisy environments as a paramedic?

They’re both really good and would work well as a paramedic. The Cardiology IV has got just that little bit crisper sound but it is quite heavy and can be cumbersome, but I guess you wouldn’t be wearing it around your neck all the time so might be the choice for you. On the other hand, the Classic III is lighter and cheaper and comes close to the Cardiology IV in acoustics in my opinion 😊

I’m a medical assisting student right now. I currently use Littman series 2 lightweight. I can’t hear much of anything. All I hear very low sounds I can barely hear. Just recently ordered a Cardiology 4. I was thinking about it for awhile. Can’t wait for it to arrive and test out how different the two are. Thanks for your video.

@@nadial.2134 It is much louder from the cardiology 4 versus the lightweight 2. It cuts out the noise from the surrounding area.

The larger the area of the chest piece, the better the sound as the sound-conveying channel is wider when the chest piece is larger 👍

Hello there, i just became a paramedic and i was wondering which is better for my work environment, given the situations such as trying to auscultate in a moving ambulance etc. looking forward to your opinion!

Hi dan dan! 👋 I always say you can definitely use a Littmann Classic III as a paramedic however, there’s no denying there’s just that little bit sharper acoustics with a cardiology IV. Considering that, there’s the price difference too. The cardiology IV is a fair bit more expensive than the Classic III, so it depends on how much you are able to spend. If it was me at the back of that ambulance, I’d go with a cardiology IF I had the money for it. Otherwise, a classic III type stethoscope would work just fine as well! 👍

I am a first semester nursing student and I am debating on littmann 3 or 4. I do not mind investing in a good stethoscope since I would like to become an ER or ICU nurse in the future. However, I do not know if starting off with the 4 will make it more difficult since it is all new to me. What do you recommend?

I think if you know you want to end up n ER or ICU and happy to invest, you can’t go wrong with a cardiology IV. It wouldn’t make it harder to learn on. 👍

Hmm 🤔 not sure about the Littmann Carsiology V. I haven’t heard any whispers of a new one coming out. How it would (if there was one) differentiate from the Cardiology IV is hard to say. As mentioned, I would love to make a cardiology stethoscope! It is in the plans, but a little further in the future ☺️

I always say that you could get away with a classic “Y” shape stethoscope such as Littmann Classic III to start with and to learn on and then upgrade later in your studies (when listening and identifying heart sounds and murmurs become important) to a cardiology stethoscope such as Littmann cardiology IV if needed. You could definitely get a cardiology stethoscope straight up as well however, they are more expensive so it depends on what your budget allows.

Would you say if auscultation is difficult for you, it might be wise to try/go for the Cardiology IV even as a student/almost to capstone student? I can't seem to hear heart and lung sounds or blood pressures very well consistently with my Littmann Lightweight and I purchased a Classic III that I ended up returning because it didn't seem to make much of a difference compared to the cost difference, but I tried one of the nurse's Cardio IV's at my clinical rotation and I heard at least my own heartbeat way clearer and didn't seem to get as much feedback from moving around my fingers on the tubing or the chestpiece, but I wanted to know if maybe that was just maybe a good moment or if that's genuinely likely a known benefit of the Cardio IV? Unfortunately I wasn't able to actually use it beyond just trying on my own heart lol. I suppose I could purchase it somewhere with a good return policy so I could try it out and see if it helps me and actually is worth the bigger asking price.

I would actually spend the extra money on a Littmann Cardiology IV because I want a clear crisp sound quality with no interference from outside noises

Thank you for shooting this comparison video! Will be really helpful for me to take right decision. I have one doubt though. As per the specification mentioned in Amazon site both are 27 inches long, but on some other online sites the Cardiology IV is also of 22 inches long. So is there any chances that Cardiology IV is available in both 22 inch and 27 inch sizes in the market? and may be you have the 22 inch one in the video, because as you mentioned and it does looks like, Cardiology IV is shorter in length than Classic III in the video. Can you please confirm this? And what's the length mentioned on the box of your Cardiology IV?

Hi Pratik! That’s a very good question. I’ve had a look at my boxes of the two stethoscope and on both of them it says they are 27 inches/69cm but like you said, you can see in the video that the Classic III is slightly longer than the Cardiology IV. I did a little search and did find a few sites listing the cardiology IV as 22 inches long but that seems very short to me! That’s roughly 55cm and would be hard to use due to it being so short. So I’m not sure about the 22inch Cardiology IV cause I haven’t tried it myself and to be honest, probably won’t cause I like the tubing longer 😌 Thank you so much for watching, I hope that helps.
