@@nolives not for Otz. Alex is a truly a kind and sweet person, he doesn't see us as a $$$. No way you are one of the people who watch and follow him Even if Twitch and RU-vid is a job for him, it doesn't mean that he is doing it only because of money. We can't say that we are truly friends, but we are the community. Otzdarva has influence on us, and it's a good one. Majority of his subscribers/followers are kind and good people too. Grow up from "it's only about money", my guy. Alex doing it for entertainment and fun. He is enjoying what he is doing, as well as we all are.
I started playing as Dwight, partly because he reminded me of a character in CoD Zombies, but his perks made me feel like i was contributing to the team by following someone else around and repairing generators with them. By staying close to other players, i got an idea of when to run, where to run, and the logic of generator spawns. That all being said, for long term learning the game, accepting fully that your first games are going to make the survivor team a 3.5v1, this ordering in the video is very much good advice
I blasted the last of my time and bloodpoints at Steve to get him P3 just before the progression change because getting that red background on an exclusive character achieved neuron activation.
Bill is my first main and forever since.. he's been my favorite survivor and SO beginner friendly imo respectful, but yes, Feng is a good choice along with Meg
Seeing Breakable Walls with Windows I would argue is still useful, as you’ll be able to see if certain loops like Saloon’s main building, still have the walls
@@killerchristian567 what do you disagree with? I agree with you, I love windows. Someone deleted a comment where they said that windows makes you mistake breakable walls for pallets, and then I said ‘only if you’re a noob’
Don't forget the most important scale of judging a survivor. If they are cute or not, and according to the last time Otz did this style of video your only pick is Cheryl which I have to agree. :)
I think distortion is a really good mention, not only does it hide its user but doubles down as an espionage perk that lets you figure out the killers build/perks, making it extremely strong for a swf if they can figure out half the killers build within the first few minutes of the game.
Also, another tip, David grunts a lot more when being carried which could possibly mess with the killers counting. I know that when i first started playing killer david was a pain in the ass because i was counting the grunts. So definitely another thing to consider.
Can we all just appreciate that this guy does not only play the game and entertain people with videos but he also helps people play the game and encourages people to have more fun with the game.
I think Distortion deserves an honorable mention! Especially if you're playing with a friend. You can call out that the killer scanned you just now, and it can provide you with unexpected advantages, like going for the rescue after barbecue hits your team way more safely than anyone else!
True but aura perks are sadly not very popular, when I equip distortion it mostly doesn't activate. Aftercare however is hugely underrated, it's a mian perk for my builds because it tells me tons of information: who's being chased, who's going for the unhook, what gens are being repaired and which gate is getting opened. Yes it takes time to get all 3 survivors' aura and resets after getting hooked but the value is still very good, even seeing 2 of the survivors most of the match can tell you a lot not mentioning how it benefits other survivors seeing you. I think it's one of the best solo queue perks in the game.
@@Ahmad_Jihad agreed. My experience with distortion also varies drastically. It's either quiet all game or is spent in 30 seconds by a blight who runs info perks + info addons :/ When it does work, however, it's pretty useful! Oh and 100% agree about aftercare. I run kindred bc i play careless and get hooked too often, but there were times when i used aftercare and it literally saved my life. Just wish it was more permanent and didn't reset after being hooked, like rookie spirit. It sounds strong, but tbh solo queue is bad enough as it is....
@@keksuntee True, distortion didn't deserve to be 3 tokens even with the recharge and aftercare doesn't deserve to be reset after a hook when its hard to get it on every survivor
I’ve been searching for a good and educational video explaining survivors and perks in a way beginners and understand and choose properly which characters to invest our time into and this is THE BEST video I’ve seen BY FAR!!!! You did an amazing job, congratulations. I’m became a fan right away!
Even if you're not Otz, I'm still thankful for everything you taught me about this game. Ya know what? I think if you keep on this path you'll become Otz one day.
If you are watching this video and you get to the part where it says, Nancy and Steve are not playable characters, the game updated, and now they are but their perks are still basic perks hope that helps in a way
i can’t even begin to explain how helpful this video was! i’ve been playing + researching for months and honestly never gave a thought to how the exhaustion perks would overlap. very informative especially for a newer player! thank you!
Meg is one of the best for starting out but in the long run i think Elodie is a serious contender. Deception is currently one of the best perks in the game for survivors. Appraisal makes items quite easy to get all throughout the match. Power Struggle is the only niche perk but when it does work it is often life saving.
Thanks, Otz! I started playing DBD two months ago, so I used your guide from last year as a starting point for figuring out who to level first. Now I’m trying to save up to get Zarina. She’s just a really cool character, plus Off The Record will help survive the match longer.
It's not, because all the slowndown makes it impossible to push through 5 gens if you are not efficient, so being sneaky and wasting time is still a very bad idea
I think there's a distinction between being stealthy and sneaky that's overlooked here. Wearing colorful cosmetics, playing Bill or Ash, is easily avoidable. Sneaky is not an optimal strategy unless you're in the right circumstances to waste more of the killers time than a chase would. Especially if you're already 2 hooked.
Another tip for Anniversary Events: All Survivors and Killers that are Original and are before the latest Chapter will be available for Half their Original Price. This means you can buy two survivors, two killers, or a survivor and a killer for the price of one. Additionally, Shrine of Secrets will also rotate in perks, and cost 2000 normally, so if you don't want the survivor / killer but want the perk, you can buy it from there.
If you're new to the game and you're lucky enough to have a friend or two to play it with, I wholeheartedly recommend Distortion from Jeff. Starting with 3 tokens, when your aura is revealed by the killer, you'll instead consume a token and have your aura hidden for 10 seconds, with the little bonus of not leaving 'scratch marks'. In a group, this is an amazing perk to scout out whatever aura reading perks or add-on's the killer has, whilst keeping you hidden and safe. Using this will naturally help you learn key moments throughout a match when your aura is seen by the killer, such as when a teammate is hooked, or a generator is completed, which is incredibly important for survival. And as you get more experienced, you'll naturally start to learn killer perks and builds, and start calling out or de-confirming very strong killer perks such as Lethal Pursuer, or Scourge Hook: Floods of Rage. Warning your teammates will keep them on their toes and less likely to be ambushed, whilst you can stay out of sight entirely and work on generators, or help your hooked teammates etc.
Best beginner build. In terms of average match success would be Sprint Burst (Meg Thomas), Windows of Opportunity (Kate Densen), Technician (Feng Ming). In that order You don't even need to worry about another 4th shareable perk slot initially. Just level Meg first: Learn how to navigate a chase and avoid the killer with the speed advantage. Then Kate Densen: Learn window and pallet placement to improve your looping. Then when you have the hang of that. Use Feng so you can start working gens successfully. Especially if you haven't quite the hang of the skill check mechanic. And now you have the hang of looping and window pallet placement. That's when to learn Lithe. After that I would use Bond. A useful perk for seeing your teammates. Get healed. Find a generator to help repair. See where a nearby chase is going down. To follow to know where the exit gates are. Or Deja Vu, so you can practice more Gen Repair. Chances are you're not that not that good at looping the killer yet. And you want to be a productive teammate. Deja Vu and Technician are great perks for helping the team while better survivors distract the killer.
I always get this vibe from Otz that I'm watching a genius/prodigy. I don't know if it's his mannerisms or the way he speaks, but he always sounds extremely smart.
I know you probably won't see this, but thank you so much for the examples at 12:27, Otz. I play solo, and that Solo queue example has been helping me escape more matches now that I'm trying it out.
No idea if this would be possible as a perk but let me know if you guys like the idea: if there was a character who was an actor that gets added it could be really hilarious to have a perk that lets you change cosmetics in lockers. No clue what that would require on a server side so it's probably not happening anytime soon but it sounds fun
thanks for the video! I basically became a survivor main because of killer Q times and I've been making my ways through survivors starting with Zarina to Kate and I'm about to finish Meg. I did already have Feng and Dwight's teachables, big fan of Lithe, and had a few perks from the shrine like BT and DS. but this gives a good road map for going forward. lol I was going to go Ace next because I use Kindred a lot in solo and I heard open handed was good with it. Been having a good time and watching the Hardcore survivor challenge videos are very good for learning survivor tactics as well.
If you are a complete beginner/have no idea what you're doing, I highly recommend Breakdown from Jeff. That way when you get unhooked, the hook is broken for up to three minutes & you can help your teammates get some safety when they unhook you. Empathy from Claudette is also great as it allows you to see when your teammates are injured so you can guess where the killer is. It also gives a nice boost to healing. I run these two almost every single time I play. You don't have to be good at looping if you can play smart.
Lithe is lowkey slept on and honestly better than Sprint Burst. I know everyone sucks off sprint burst, but when you are working on a gen, you can't "99 it bro" because it fucking recovers fully as you are STATIONARY so the only thing that it does is help you get away faster...but if you don't know where the killer is coming from it does fuckall most of the time. If you are in chase a lot, then yes, sprint burst is obviously better because you can control how much you run. Lithe you can precisely set it off exactly when you want to and have complete control over it. There isn't a map where you CANNOT get incredible value from it. Either using it straight away to gtfo or, when you are about to vault the first window, you can use that to chain to another tile without doing the whole "bloodlusted, therefore drop pallet" thing and reserve valuable resources for someone else at a later time. It also can be combo'd WAY better with more stealthy perks like Dance With Me, Lucky Break, Quick and Quiet, and so forth, to get a shit load of space and probably even lose the killer altogether. With Sprint Burst you can't really do that if you do gens and aren't an asshole that just spends the entire match acting like a streamer that wants the killer's attention to the detriment of your team.
I’ve been playing for about a month maybe a bit more, but I started with bill then went to Meg and now I’m doing David cause I really want dead hard lol
i love that you're updating these. i remember pulling out my credit card and getting good old booba, plague and hag because i watched these vids years ago!!
I think david is the best starting survivor by far because of WGLF, it potentially gives you double bp in your games so that means faster perks in all your characters, that was without the fact that it gives dh that is arguably the best perk in the game
People always underestimate how stealthy Felix is. Yes, he is quite big and his outfits aren't all that subtle, but if you buy the dark green suit or wear one of the darker suits, the killer will walk past you way more often than you expect, and he also blends in with the bushes perfectly.
Good to know or good to keep in mind: Always opt in to the DLC from the steam store than in the in-game store on auric cells btw. if you plan to spend some money to unlock DLC content/characters. Don't know if this changed. Or different in other regions. Just compare the price before cashing out. I just wanted to share this bit because I wished I knew before I could've saved a little bit of money. I'm a frugal type of person so having a few dollars off? Count me in. I am aware of the auric cells from special events but I'm not that of a regular player to complete those missions.
Me personally, am a survivor main, and here's what I did I P3 every survivor and get ones that help me during chase. I bought Adam and Kate at first, helped me a lot. I play on console, since Feng Min is free. But yeah, play them for fun.
What an amazing video! So helpful, so much information! Every time I went to click off this video, you hooked me with more information. Awesome job! Your effort is greatly appreciated!
As someone who is still currently a beginner in DBD, play Dwight. Bond Perk helps a lot to figure out rotation, gens being fixed, and to realize when chases are happening. Feng Min if you have the extra cash. Her Technician perk let's you miss skill checks and not make a sound at the cost of higher reduction on the gen's progress. She also has Lithe that gives you a speed boost after vaulting. Vaulting when being chased is your best friend.
There's always a ping sound effect before a skill check shows up. Only realized this after about 15 games. Mainly because I played with friends and I mostly focused on comms.
As a main Mikaela, im glad she got mentioned as one of the survivors that has a strong utility perk :'D P.D: can we notice that Jeff and Quentin don't got mentioned on almost nothing? 😂 Love u Otz 🖤💜 although i only have like 1k hours or so i found so useful every single one of your videos 🖤💜
i am convinced that otz is the sole reason the dbd community exists as it does now. it ain't an easy game to get into and he's the only reason i still play it
There’s no cross progression so all my killers and cosmetics and stranger things dlc is not available on my PC. It’s really sad that I’m starting from scratch, but you’re helping me.
I have a more stealth kind of gameplay not being a very good looping player and some of the most important perks i would recommend for stay away from the killers sights that can help are urban evasion for nea, alert from feng and now after the update distortion from jeff. Urban evasion does miracles to save you hiding behind stones and stuff from the map and fooling killers when they check if you are in the area its really funny how you can virtually be more faster crouching then walking using this. The last slot can be really filled with whatever you prefer a healing perk like circle of healing or any another utility
*My recommendation: first Meg and then Meng Fin. Meg's perks are good for escaping the killer, but Meng Fin being able to visualize where the killer is with Alert and avoid blowing up the gen, which for me were essential things when I started playing.* 😉
It's always nice to see these guides even though I am not a new player! Though when I went on a new account out of curiosity I went with dwight first since all his perks felt amazing for info and lovely coop points. Those extra points feel so much helpful just getting those extra blood webs early on 😔
I just started a few weeks ago - went meg till 1st prestige with deja vu, kindred, sprint burst and self aware. swapped to kate then so I could slot in windows of opportunity for self aware. I feel its a pretty solid build! :D
I think MR X would have been a cool killer but so is Wesker. MR X would be a hybrid of Myers and Nemesis. You would have to stalk in order to get higher in your power and transform into the more final tyrant form of his. Instead of hearing a lullaby or heartbeat it would just be loud footsteps🤷🏽♂️
The first ever survivor I got was Yui, because I bought the entire DLC just for Oni and at the time I only played killer. When I started playing survivor I only ever played Yui, and man that wasn't really a good choice lol Great Video!
I play stealth using Distortion (Jeff teachable) Calm Spirit (Jake Teachable) Urban Evasion (Nea Teachable) and Lightweight (Meg Teachable) all of this on a Claudette with a dark as hell outfit, led to the creation of "The Bush Lurker" able to be right next to a killer and rarely detected, No screams from Iron Maiden, Infectious Fright or similar perks. Limited scratch marks to dive into a bush and confuse the hell out of the killer chasing you once you break line of sight. Urban Evasion to maneuverer around rocks and trees, keeping just out of sight of the killer. And Distortion, since most meta perks are for Aura reading, helps determine if the killer has things like BBQ, or similar perks. Personally I have great fun as this, but it does have it's weaknesses in chase. Hence you stealth everywhere haha.
I main bill because I remember those old gmod meme videos from 2010, only played left 4 DEAD recently but I immediately recognized bill and picked him when I got the game
Yes, you could get the perks from charcaters that help you survive better. Or you can get GIGACHADAM Francis to throw rocks, yeet off hooks, and disappoint your whole team when your healing is needed the most
I recommend Ace to players once they have managed to survive a few matches, because Ace in the Hole + Plunderers + Exhaustion Perk + Prove Thyself is a great build for beginners, since they won't have many items, and Ace+Plunderers lets them get their items in game and keep their Add ons. Back when Rank = Difficulty of opponents, I would throw that on my main every rank reset and just powerfarm items.
I’m doing a very unique route, based on what characters and perks I personally like. Started with Bill for his perks, then prestiged Leon because he’s my favorite character and I plan on using him as my survivor once I have all the perks I need unlocked, not so much for his perks specifically. Currently working on David, and then doing Feng or Dwight
