Leo from Rise was meant to eventually become the leader because of how suited he was for it, but the show got canceled so the writers had to rush everything.

I think overall TMNT 2012 is just the perfect blend of what the Turtles have been over the years. The series is comedic, emotional and sometimes dark. Thanks to it's pretty long run it was able to pick something from almost all of the series history, both in story lines, tone and characters. Doesn't mean it's the best the turtles have ever been but if someone would ask me what TMNT is all about, I would definitely recommend TMNT 2012 (especially speaking of shows/cartoons)

I think ppl would be more open to Rise if they viewed it just like “Spiderverse”. No one complained about Peter Parker’s character or gender-swapped Doc Ock - it was just cool! I love Rise’s twists, the Casey reveal, and even how Raphael was the leader. Rise’s existence doesn’t erase the other shows or their equally excellent quality! TMNT is just the best. 🐢👊

As a massive long time TMNT fan, I gotta say 2003 is my favorite. It contains everything I love from the turtles. The only downside would be the fact that Shredder was not a human.

2012 TMNT will always be my fave, A big reason for that being because I grew up with it and it was the first version I watched. But even when comparing it with the other series, the plot, characters, animation style, and just everything seems perfect.

My favourite thing about Rise is the family dynamics. The brothers having nicknames for each other, the turtles calling Splinter dad instead of master or farther. And the family drama two, like the one episode where Donnie gets upset with Splinter, because he lied about wanting to hang out with them

Rise is such a fresh take on this franchise to me and it is a damned shame that old heads can't just let some things go and embrace change, especially when it's as well made as Rise is.

TURTLE POWEEERR! 2003 will always be my all time true TMNT to me, so faithful to the original comics, pushed the boundaries for what was accepted on kids TV back in the day and treated it's audience with respect. Such raw consistency ❤

2012 is 100% my fav though I get why some people may disagree. I just loved the character depth and the thoroughly good character growth and sincere back story. Rise as a close second though. I started by watching the movie (bad idea) and I stopped with in the first 5 mins bc I didn’t like the concept of them having powers and their highly changed personalities. BUT, after pushing myself to watch the entire thing, it was AMAZING! The character growth is phenomenal, though 2012 still takes the win for me personally:)

2012 was my introductory series, but Rise's community truly is chill. Seems to be that way with a lot of fandoms with a more heavy leaning towards high quality animation (Duck Tales reboot, Gravity Falls, Amphibia, Owl House, & even Adventure Time come to mind)

I think my favorite is 2012 just because of the witty and charming dialogue and quips. It did get repetitive over time with their constant sass, but they really felt like teenagers and it had a lot of LOL moments for me.

My favorite is definitely the 2012 series, but 2003 is a close second. I loved how the 2012 series combined the dark elements from the 2003 series (and comics, but since I never read those I don't feel comfortable using it as comparison), and the humor from the 1987 series. And I loved how the turtles behaved like actual teenagers! That bothered me when rewatching the 2003 series, they rarely felt like teens to me. As for favorite character, it differs per series. 1987's favorite is Raphael, because I love meta humor and he broke the 4th wall the most often. 2003 and 2012 favorites are Leonardo, I don't know why, all I know is that I crushed on both of them. And my favorite in Rise is Donatello, because as an autistic person I just relate to him the most.

Each interation represents the personality of a turtle imo. 1. 1987 is Leonardo (The first lead to an animated series) 2. 2003 is Raphael (Brooding and Darker series) 3. 2012 is Michelangelo (The heart and most humorous series) 4. Rise is Donatello (The Smartest and innovative changes to the turtles in a series)

2012 one is the first series I watched at the time when I was *_6_* years old. It impacted me so much. When I revisited the show this year (I'm now 15), it literally makes me cry especially the final episodes of Mutant Apocalypse. I don't know how to describe it but I got so attached to it that I kind of absorbed each one of the turtles' personalities. It is so memorable I remembered all of the turtles' traits, personalities, obsessions etc. The lessons of life the episodes teaches really inspires me to care about relationships with our families

I grew up with 2012 TMNT, but that doesnt mean i hate the others, ROTTMNT is damn amazing with the animation and fight scenes and i really enjoyed the crossover episodes with the 1987 and the 2012 TMNT, these were really fun to watch and i really injoyed it

I love tmnt 2012 because the elements are so balanced; the action, the humor, the family fluff, the angst, etc. Loved how they use 'enemies to friends' trope for most characters' interaction. The only thing I don't like is the shredder's motivation. All he thought about was revenge. He literally cared more about getting revenge than saving earth and his daughter. I was hoping he had more plausible motivation for hating Splinter, or at least turn him into a morally grey character. But no, he was pure evil for some reason

What I love about ROTTMNT is that they are the most unique. I feel like they give off the most teenager vibes. I love how Mikey acts like the youngest brother while also being really friendly and open. I love how Raphael is the big, overprotective brother while and doesn’t have huge anger issues, but that was replaced with his isolation issues that gave him pure rage moments. He’s a big sweetheart, which I also greatly adore. I like Donny for his neutral tones and funny remarks while also being a tech whizz, but also greatly cares for his brothers in his own ways. And I absolutely love Leo for his funny actions and lack of maturity, since they are teenagers after all. They weren’t raised by a completely serious father, which could explain why they are so immature, but I really feel like it adds to the fact that they are still children and don’t need to grow up so fast to compare to serious adults. And like in all the movies, their are many alternative universes/dimensions of the tmnt’s. So I feel like it it’s cool that we stepped out of the lines of seriousness and shows that not all the dimensions are gonna be similar. Although, their storyline is a bit whacky since the series got cut short, but I really feel like the show had a lot of potential. And I love how they made April. She’s a confident teenager that’s not afraid to stand up and fight. Having a change of pace kinda feels good.

The original deserves all the credit for making turtles into the phenomenon it became. It went from a cult indie comic to an overnight worldwide sensation. It was like the beatles or Star Wars. The media called it Turtlemania. The entire look, character design, music and intro are crazy iconic and every reimaging is influenced by it. That does not mean its the best show (it's probably the worst), however it did have the best April and I will die on this hill!

I prefer the 2012 version the most. I appreciate the distinct appearance of each turtles, the design of Shredder's armor, and Super Shredder. Tiger Claw's addition as a new character was also appealing. The portrayal of Krang as an entire race rather than an individual is intriguing. The animation is notably clean and reminiscent of the quality seen in classic Disney movies.

2012 was like a middle ground in TMNT. 2003 was serious, 1980 was goofy, and rise was a combo of serious and goofy.

TMNT is blessed because there is no such thing as a bad TMNT installment

After reading some of the recent comments, it's been made apparent it just might be a generation thing. If they were to replay the entire 2003 series on TV from start to finish I'd wager all the children who grew up on the 2012-2018 version would have a difference of opinion. It was just that good: In action, moral, comedy, suspence etc.. birthed the most fearsome shredder to date.

TMNT 2012 was a life changer for me, it just was and still is the base of my childhood,I remember every single thing that happened and it's just a huge part of me,tho I love 2003 a lot because I remember having a great time with it,but I only remember that,I didn't finish rise because I was watching for the first time when It Aired but I was wierded out by the changes,then I stopped watching tv so I because of that I didn't finish the series,I can't say anything about 1993 one cuz I only watched parts and highlights on yt,

I love all the art styles. The art style of ROTMNT makes all the turtles look more unique.

The sole reason Rise wasn't as loved is because people were either too old to get the appeal or were just too nostalgic, or too young to even understand the beauty of TMNT in general. I am kind of in between of those two so I gave it a shot. Although it was a very different experience, it still felt like watching TMNT. As the show progressed, it just got better and better, and the finale, although rushed, was more than satisfying and I was hyped like hell when I first saw the trailer for the movie.

I loved 2012. Not because i watched it when i was younger, but for the amazing story it had and the lovable dynamic between each character. But i did start to lose interest in it after the space episodes but still loved it. I did see a few episodes of 2003 and i want to watch more but idk where to watch it. It looks and sounds amazing

I haven't watched Rise, but I currently am watching TMNT 2012. I will watch it sometime in the near future after I takes a break from TMNT after I watched TMNT 2012... I love the 2012 version,because it was a big huge shoutout to classic 80s cartoons and 90s trilogy. I love the actors voiced Leopardo (Jason Big for seasons 1 and 2; Seth Green for the rest of Series). I think it was cool that the same voice actor who voiced Raph in the 80s cartoon that was doing Donnie. I think he did an amazing job. I love the show has entered around Leo and Donnie.... I love Donnie have a chemistry with April and he distracted when he looked at her with his study, because he's willing to do anything to help her... I love how Leo had portrayed in the 2012 series and I think this version of him is way better than 2003,because I thought the 2003 version of him was a more showoff and selfish jerk. In the 2012's version of Leo, he's very liability towards his brothers and he wants to prove himself as a leader to them...I do like Raph in 2012's TMNT and I am glad he didn't downplayed Mikey in 2012's TMNT than he did in 2003's TMNT (I found it was very disrespect toward the 80s when he said to Mikey in 2003's TMNT that don't say "Cowbuna"). I thought this version of Raph is way better than 2012's Casey Jones,because I don't care for this version of Casey Jones and I found him very cocky. Well, Raph is cocky, but Raph is more a leveled-headed than Casey that thanked to Leo as being his anchor and he does supported his brother as a leader,because he knows Leo is looking after them when he called him "Fearless Leader" by showing respect to him...I love this version of Mikey in 2012's TMNT and he stole the show. He's like a brat out of the turtle brothers and he likes to get away with everything. I thought that is freaking adorable.☺️..I really like this version of Splinter is very close to his 80s counterpart and The Shredder is very similar to his 90s movie's counterpart. I do like this twist on Karai with them...I even thought this take on April with Kraang is very interesting...I even love the family dynamic in this show and I found it's very dark but very entertaining....I really hope the show will come back with more seasons.🙏 As long it isn't the Shredder and kraang are the main villains, I could see Tiger Claw is becoming the main villain or the Rat King is coming back as the main villain (like what had happened in IDW comics). Or they will introduce King Komodo and Max Winters (a main villain from 2007's film) to the series. Hopefully if it does happen, I don't mind they will introduce Jennika as the 5th turtle and I could see she will become Casey Jones' love interest,because April's and Casey's relationship doesn't work out for me in 2012's TMNT. I found their relationship is more like brother-sister relationship than romantic one and I prefer April to be with Donnie than Casey in 2012's TMNT....This series does deserves more seasons and a proper ending. My two older brothers had grew up with the 80s cartoons,but I remembered I had watched couple of seasons with them in 90s and I used to played their toys. I also grew up with 2003's TMNT in my teenage years, but my brothers don't like 2003's TMNT and used to teased me for liking 2003's TMNT. When I rewatched 2003's TMNT, I had agreed with my brothers that the 2003's TMNT had some flaws...I think what had ruined for me with 2003's TMNT that's they ruined The Shredder,because they should stick with The Shredder's human origin like they did from the comic with the movie and 2012'S TMNT than they made The Shredder and Kraang as the same person. The producers tried to retconed by making The Kraang was personalized The real Shredder and The real Shredder was a demon that the turtle brothers were destines to fight. I wish they should ended the series there than them go into the future then go back to fight The Kraang Shredder in a mecha suit. I thought that was dumb...I thought the turtle brothers was exploring worlds that's interesting,but I wish they should add the mutants. But I was thinking about 2012's TMNT episode where Mikey had used his imagination to helped his brothers to fight the aliens that invaded his mind. I has been thinking that 2003's TMNT was just Mike's imagination,because I think it does makes a lot of sense with Mikey. I could picture Mikey was tired of fighting mutants and imagine himself in the world where everyone's superheroes and he and his brothers has mystic powers. Mikey has one crazy, wild imagination. I wouldn't be surprise that 2003's TMNT will turn out to be Mike's imagination than universal Canon. I would be okay with that. I don't blame Mikey for being tired from fighting The Shredder and The mutants. Besides, I love Mikey and he's only one turtle that's my favorite in the 2003's TMNT series. I even love his 2012's counterpart.

I remember watching 2012 cartoon and really enjoying it. And then I forgot about the show for the next 10 years. It was Rise of the TMNT that actually got me back into it. I don’t care if it’s more comedy. I just love how different the character designs are and I also enjoy the story. But I am meaning of rewatching the 2012 show. So I’m excited to see it again.

My favorite running gag in Rise was Donnie's Drill; In I think the second episode, the drill is introduced and carried gear for the turtles, but Donnie said it was just to transport the gear as it was in beta. This drill appears again multiple times throughout the show, and Donnie kept saying it was in Beta when he was asked if it was finished.

one element that was sort of mentioned but deserves more praise with 2012: THE CAST. good GOD they're a perfect mix of actors who's voices fit their characters perfectly. Donatello is voiced by Rob Paulsen, of Animaniacs fame, where he voiced Yakko. Also voiced Carl Wheezer in Jimmy Neutron. Michaelangelo is Greg Cipes, the perfect voice for Mikey and Beast Boy. Leo's Seth Green is perfect with the dramatic and comedic/nerdy stuff. Raph as Sean Astin, Samwise fuckin Gangee from Lord of the Rings, ironic and perfect for him to play a strong, tough character

Tbh. Fight scenes on the 2017 cartoon looked gorgeous but I loved the choreography of the 2012 version. Also the 2012 theme song is the best as a song even though the 1987 song is more iconic

As someone who worked as an animator on the 2012 version of the show and a Leo stan, respect. I love every single series as well with the exception of Rise and that's cause I haven't seen it yet. This has given me a lot to look forward to and I will definitely watch it now.

I hope rottmnt gets continued. Every generation needs a new tmnt, my mom grew up with the 1983 and my aunt grew up with the 2003 version and I grew up with the 2012. I really hope my little cousins can grow up with rise.

Honestly, Every TMNT is very dear to my heart. I like to think of each version as their own alternate dimension. Each of them have their own kind of charm and flavor, including their ups and downs. Honestly it would pretty sick if we got a Turtles Forever 2 or a remake of that movie, only this time its with all the versions of them fighting their army of villians, each baddie coming from a different universe. It would be so sick! I especially want 2003 Raph to chat with 2012 Raph, and Rize Raph would be like the big guy which the other Raphs would think its pretty sick! The Donnies would be doing their own Tech wiz stuff, Rize Donnies snark would be a fun thing to see in this situation. The Mikeys would literally be vibing with each other, and heck maybe pull a sick combos with each others nunchucks. And we could even have a nice moment with the Leos talking about their teams and leadership styles. But hey thats just my inner fan speaking! 😅😂

I'll admit that I was dismissive towards the Rise TMNT bc of my bias towards the 2012 version. But seeing how Rise was gaining popularity I started to think "if it's being so well liked it can't be that bad" so I tried it out and didn't like it bc I kept comparing it to the 2012 version. I started Rise again a couple months later and this time viewed the show as ya know, it's OWN show, and after stopping myself from trying to look for the 2012 version in the new series was I able to enjoy and now LOVE Rise

Turtle Power. I really like Raph 2012 because he's anger stems from him being more sensitive than most, I thought. You could see this with his love for various animals he cared for. Seem like a kid just trying overcompensate and having a hard time getting in touch with his emotions. Which I could relate from.

I didn’t like the Rise designs at first. But just from a character design standpoint, they’re amazing, they all have drastically different builds that reflect their personalities and allow for unique silhouettes, they use shape language well, they aren’t over designed or under designed, and for the most part, they keep the essence of their original counterparts

You know what I really love about 2012 Splinter? Is the only one who actually acts like a ninja; all Splinters are wise old men, but 2012's is the only one who used techniques like those of a ninja, using his surrounding to his advantage, and wasn't over "cheating" if meant the greater good.

I grew up with ‘87, I adore it and for the most part I fell under the first pillar of turtle fan. But my husband said I should try ‘12. I was like come on, the cgi is so clunky. But I fell in love with it. Now my oldest daughter is watching ‘Rise’ and we saw ‘Mayhem’ and I’m in love with it ( even though I agree that i don’t like Rises character design). But the story and the laughs, sharing with my daughter. I’ll always favor ‘87. But I might watch other incarnations. I can’t wait for the ‘Mayhem’ series.

Fun fact, the order of which the Turtles names were stated in the 2012 intro is the same order as when they were stated in the 1987 intro. Leo, then Donnie, then Raph, then Mikey

2012 was my fav even though I grew up with 2003. I always loved the fact 2012 took real japanese culture and ninjutsu moves, weapons and training methods in the show. It really felt like Splinter came from Japan to New York and shared his culture with the turtles but are still New Yorker teenagers.

I found it funny when Ralph was captured and the man asked “what nice blades you have, mind telling me who gave them to you” and Ralph said “yo mama”

2012 is my fav i grew up watching it its awesome and i like the feel of how their teens making jokes and learning to take on villians together

As someone who grow up with 2003 turtles, I still hold them dear to my heart even without the nostalgia. I personally do like fast forward as its easy and fun to watch at times even if it's not that serious ,but back to the sewer... yea ..its such a change in style and in story and mood that it just isn't as memorable, or as fun even- Atleast the team song of fast forward is cool to listen too while watching the episodes.

Leo in the movie gets the development he needs, and there are a LOT of undermining problems with his mental state that make him think he couldn't be a good leader. Besides he was used to Raph taking charge because in that series Raph was the leader first. WE GOT ROBBED OF RISE CONTENT- Leo was most likely going to grow and flourish SO MUCH MORE. BUT WE GOT ROBBED ROBBED I SAY.

I believe that each TMNT cartoon spanning from 1987, 2003, 2012, & 2018 is significant in its own rights. In contrast to the original Mirage Comics, the original cartoon is nostalgic for children of the 1980s & has a hilarious & lighter tone of amazement. The 2003 series' tone is closer to the style of Mirage Comics, but it isn't quite as grim or gory. The 2012 series, which combines elements of both the 1987 & 2003 series, primarily features humorous moments & episodes but can sometimes be serious when needed. RotTMNT serves as more of an experiment to determine how much the characters & the story of TMNT can be modified.

I grew up with the 2012 TMNT and love it from the bottom of my heart, but I also enjoyed ROTTMNT, it truly brings a new perspective to the traditional story. April's character was so much more confident and well thought, the family dynamics between the turtles and their father are wholesome, and there is a lot more humor sided with an unique artstyle & character design.

I loved the 2003 version. It has crazy amounts of action and the character’s personalities were dark and brutish. Hell Raph was ready to fight in the thumbnail 😂 now the Nickelodeon one is also badass as well.

Hands down 2003 Turtles, As far as seriousness, humor, character depth, continuity, actual fighting and creativity they win hands down.

IK this is like 2 years old, but I've grown up with TMNT and I have to say Rise has got to be my favorite iteration, I frequently rewatch it for how goofy it can be. The character changes were favorable, like how Raph became the leader or 'older sibling' and has to deal with that pressure, how Donnie actually uses his tech offensively and went from supporting cast to main stage, how Leo being free of the leader role can have a lot more personality in terms of exploring self-doubt and overcompensation, and well... Mickey's mostly the same goofy young sibling we always love. I do wish Stockboy wasn't some kid genius, or the Purple Dragons being a laughable teen hacker gang, but the fact that Rise focused a lot more on their brotherly relationships instead of introducing like... 50 villains like the last iteration did was sweet. They felt like brothers, they felt different, it was a good change. I do however wish they explored a liiittle more with the what effects this neglectful and depressed Splinter had on his kids, instead of somewhat being a mention or a one done deal and being joked about most of the time.

I do love Rise over the other TMNT many as it is more in line with my tastes 1987 and 2003 had always thrown me off and 2012 didn't gripped me Rise just was closer to my childhood And this is coming from someone who was not a fan until Rise came into play

Rise of the TMNT is incredible. The steaming wars have produced a lot of very half-assed, shitty reboots of beloved franchises, but I gotta say Rise of the TMNT is not one of them. It’s great to see the writers put some real love and thought behind it, with really high quality animation, and I think most of the changes they made to the series are welcome. Been watching 2012 with my kids as well. Also not bad, but I’m enjoying Rise with them a lot more.

When I watched tmnt 2012 when i was younger, and damn it was good, re-watching the series again with my nostalgia goggles made me hype af, ending up with my tmnt phase improved and revived.

Leonardo has been my favorite all my life, but I'm starting to suspect that it's just because blue is my favorite color, because I recently went through the 87 (revisiting since childhood, with the latter 2/3 being brand new to me) & 03 series (completely brand new to me, though I'd seen Turtles Forever when it came out, and had the first few waves of figures when they first came out), and having just read The L-....the newest comic book miniseries...*ahem*...and I think Michelangelo might be my favorite. I've kinda always said "blue's my favorite color, I can actually use a bo staff, have anger issues" (now discovered to by undiagnosed autism, yay!) "and am otherwise pretty silly," so they all kinda fit me in one way or another (my only issue in pivoting now is over 30 years of getting more Leos outside the regular sets of action figures, where I obviously tried to just be a completionist). I've seen the first two seasons of 2012, but need to rewatch, then finish, and Rise just aesthetically is growing on me, so I'm actually quite looking forward to it (and check my latest YT vid, I totally always thought April had been black since the beginning, but learned a little bit ago that it was just her black & white artwork perm that threw me off, haha). But yeah, I'd actually been planning to do a video like this since my last video blind reacting to the Mutant Mayhem teaser trailer, and yours was so good, it's kept my inspiration to! Sorry for the TL;DR. Comes with the Neurodivergence territory. 😰

While I do think the 2012 version is the best one. I personally prefer the 2003 series mainly because I’m just more of a fan of that art style, I liked its side characters like Stockman(which seriously how the hell did they get away with what they did to him), Karai, Casey, and April. I agree that the last 2 seasons aren’t great but they had their moments.

Honestly: Original: Watched it as a kid and looved a loot, but the show didn't finish when it stopped airing, so I am nostalgic, but not attached. 2003: Reignited my love for the turtles and glued me to the tv, even rewatched it a few times. 2012: The best show in my mind. As a full story, it's a masterpiece, and it is the most fulfilling turtles experience. 2018: Honestly..... This show stole my heart.... in my heart and soul so far this is my favorite, I just cant deny how fun and loving it is. Never have I ever went back on a show just to watch a piece of animation, and this show made me do it multiple times.

Leo is my favourite turtle and that is, admittedly, a reason I didn't watch Rise TMNT. To see my favourite character be changed to, what was in my eyes, a second Mikey essentially? It didn't sit well with me. It was until the Netflix movie that I've changed my tune on it. Leo is my favourite turtle generally because I like tragic and "sad" characters, I guess is a way to put it. Characters that make me feel for them in heartbreaking ways in a sense. Leo has always been that kinda character for me. Out of his bothers, he's the one who had to grow up faster and stronger. After all, he is the eldest. He is the leader. He is responsible for his family's lives, you know? With how much pressure that causes, its no wonder that Leo is (usually the self sacrificial character. Honestly, if Leo had a Disney song, it would Surface Pressure, in my opinion anyway. And like how my love for Leo made me hesitant to watch Rise, it also made me love the 2012 show even more. 2003 will always have a special place in my heart as that was my first TMNT series. But by god, 2012 is the best overall. And I love how with Tales of the TMNT, we get to see Leo struggling with being the new Sensei. How he has to lead his family without Splinter there for guidance. He has to find ways to get his brothers to listen to him like they did with Splinter. I know you said that they were "other world" stories, which makes me belive you think they aren't cannon. But they are. Well, except for the last few episodes with the Mad Max arc. Which is the only one that's been officially announced as "an alternate timeline". Probably because they realised too late how dark of an ending that would be. 😂 So, yea. Leo my favourite. And it is sad that others, myself included, didn't give Rise a chance. But I think that for most people, it was too much change too quickly. They should've given it 2 or 3 years before releasing another reboot. ESPECIALLY since its coming of the heels of a show that worked to combine beloved elements from past TMNT properties, you know?

Why is nobody talking about how *STUNNING* that intro was. *THAT WAS SUCH A FRESH INTRO*

2012 is the best IMO because it’s the most emotional, intriguing, hardcore, heartwarming cartoon of its decade. The expressions and reactions are more lifelike and dramatic, the action sequences are perfect and smooth, the multiple foes they meet bring them more of a challenge. The moments where they lose or fail have a more drastic impact on the story, which makes it so much more satisfying when you see them triumph over their losses. The development of all the characters, good and bad, is extremely engaging because it makes you think about what is next in-store. The best thing about this adaptation is that it is still original but also blends the material from the past in the story. Every time that happens it feels like a love letter to the series that came before it. TMNT 2012 is a joy to watch and it was a wild ride for me growing up. I am glad it is the winner. The 2012 Nickelodeon series was my favorite. I'm not saying it's the best and that its better than the others since everyone is entitled to their opinion. All I'm saying is that I liked that series.
