this mentality is the difference between broadway actors and non-broadway actors. if everyone isnt putting in main character effort, the show looks amateur
I was the kid who missed half the school year coz i was (and still am) in professional plays out of school… I have PTSD for the word H O M E W O R K *chokes* At this point…
I watched it like 3-4 months ago but I'm still in my Hamilton phase xoxo Don't expect to be leaving anytime soon 🥰✌️ Edit: I've also watched it like more than 10 times by now, I need help
@@HeyYallgv I haven't watched two of those, but yk 😍😍 (Phantom of the Opera and matilda- but I'll probably watch them eventually) Anyways, watching videos of the Hamilton cast behind the scenes and stuff gives me life fr
The “senior who’s graduating” hit hard 😭 because of the pandemic, I just preformed in my first and last show… it was an amazing experience and my first time ever performing, but it’s all over now since I’m graduating :’) at least I made it count
@@LittIe_Bunny I think it depends on the scene. Sometime it's good, other times not so much. Sometimes an "over-acting" background character is just a distraction from the point of the scene.
as someone who also does background characters/ensemble, i do think it’s extremely important to give it your all and be expressive. to a point, though, because the classmate im referencing was overacting so much to the point it was just a distraction lmao
"The one who rehearses everywhere" I go over my lines when I'm bored. This is my first time getting a lead, and being in an actual PLAY and my character has the most lines so I'm trying to not screw up 😅
I am 100% the one who rehearses way too much! From all my years of theater, I always worry I will forget my lines (even if I spent hours memorizing them), so I'll use every spare second to go over them! People always look at me and wonder why I'm talking to myself, but in reality, I'm just picturing myself in the scene (at that given moment) and acting out my part! 🤣
I feel that expect it’s more just in my head. I do rehearse on my one a lot. Sometimes there are some songs or choreography that are a bit difficult and I will drill it into my brain. Sometimes to the point where a few weeks after the show I still remember the choreography
Actually! If we mess up then it's noticeable. I had a blackout cue set but it turned out it wasn't actually a blackout and during the show had to click the emergency blackout button
Techie! Respect to you, y'all put the show together! One show we did we only had one techie, and he did lights, so we had an actor do sound backstage 😂 Makes me, an actor, want to learn tech too! I actually learned a bit of the lightboard today, and it was fun! Can't wait to learn more!
Y'all are MVP's fr. A crew member who was named Loki, was the one pushing my Fruma-Sarah dress. We were best buds for those weeks, and fr the crew members and cast would dance together whilst waiting for the cue. you guys deserve as much recognition as anyone else in the cast.
The kid who really likes theatre, but is really shy and always ends up as a minor background character and doesn't know what to do. That's me. And also the kid who comes to every single rehearsal even though they aren't needed. Also me.
Late, but same. I amalways casted as a background character but I try to put in some effort to be expressive while "silent talking" and while dancing. I think that my trouble with acting in a different language always lands me in tge background, as I live in a foreign non-English speaking country.
I was crew for a show and I can confirm there was every single one of these and the person who was the main character wouldn’t stop singing and I would just be trying to work in ela. Like “please can u wait 5 minutes until break?”
I’m the one that rehearsed everywhere like you’ll be in the bathroom and suddenly someone is in the stall next to you performing the whole production of Hamilton
It doesn’t suck tho. My first year in highschool, I had so much fun as ensemble. I think what helps is if the ensemble is utilized a lot. If you look forward to everything that goes into a musical, it can really get you hyped for even small roles.
ensemble isnt a bad thing! i was in ensemble for...5 or so years? i probably still would be if our high school had a big enough theatre department. ensemble is actually pretty fun. yeah, it sucks that you dont get all the spotlight. but a lot of shows wouldnt work without the ensemble! besides, the leads can be tooooons of drama. not fun to get stuck in
@@atleynater The thing is, in my latest audition for my school musical, I know I did well yet I still got ensemble. Just because I wasn’t in the last musical. And also my sister told me some roles were pre-cast
Were? I’m STILL the one that practices everywhere! Not full blown belting but I’m always humming my part in songs or whispering it under my breath or even just thinking abt the facial expressions to make and stuff 😂
We had an ensemble girl in my last show who would yell “YEAH” whenever the lead said something important, and was literally down on her knees crying during one of our background scenes. I feel like I sometimes do too much in the background, but I’m not that 😂
I’m In a musical at school and It is shrek! Im a lead role but I know I’m not the best. My friend acts like she knows it all but she’s doing the wrong stuff 😂
As a person who watched Glee, Mamma Mia, Hamilton, Six, Beetlejuice, Heathers, Annie, Les Miserables and probably more musicals There's always that character for *every* musical
I am honestly the kid who rehearses everywhere anyone who is graduating because I am in a theater company and they go from third-grade to eighth grade I think, I also started it in 5th gradeit in fifth grade so it’s my last year 😭
No because I was literally better than my classmates in theatre, it as the only reason I got a lead role and it was because I was the only one who knew how to sing. It was like soprano level songs to sing and I was an low and I mean really low alto but no one else knew singing techniques and all that other jazz so I was stuck in a lead role while I wanted to be a side character 😭
