I run a custom hive fleet named Lacrymosa for the wailing noise made by its gargoyles. It's a splinter fleet from Jormungandr with an emphasis on flying units as well as burrowing ones. As below, so Above.
I made my own also. Hive fleet Spector. It's a splinter fleet based around lictors and genestealers. It's an new hive fleet sneaking through elder territory
I feel like GW missed the mark with a new invasion of Leviathan for the narrative for 10th. They could have unleashed Tiamet and their "secret weapon." The weapon could've been the Norn.
I like Behemoth's and Court of the Nephilim King's colors but really wanted the bones and spikes to be white instead of black, and the carapace chitin to be a darker black. After some searching I found old hive fleet Moloch fits the description!
@@severintw I believe that's what colour they become, when they are away from their hive fleet for a long time. But there is nothing stopping you painting your hive fleet in that colour as they say "its your 40K do it your way"
@@severintw Yeah dude I think you're talking about hive Fleet hydra, Old genestealers had similar schemes based on whether they were assault or not, but over time fleets have been established with good painters schemes that make it to white dwarf (like Moloch) Hydra fits that description based on some pics I found, and also hive Fleet Gengar is full purple if you like that too. You can Google a lexicarnum list that shows fleet links. Hope that was the one you were looking for, or at least helped!
@@Skycrown92 thanks for the advice. I will have a look at the Lexicarnum. Gengar got what I assume are the “softer” parts black and the “harder” parts purple. I like the Space Hulk scheme with purple for the soft and dark blue for the hard parts. Was hoping that one belongs to a specific hive fleet so I can search how other people did the various models to get some ideas.
My hive fleet is inspired by the screamer killer coming back in full and it’s called hive fleet banshee specializing in screamer killers as a main front with a little bit of the sneaky bugs like the new leapers and lictors for the flanks to catch foes off guard while they try to deal with the big ones
Kinda of loving the idea of a hybrid between Hive Fleet Leviathan and Kronos for a force of Psychic Tank bugs. Taking Synaptic Nexus and using your big Brain bugs to force lots of battle shock tests while being hard to take off the table.
I chose to do a custom hive fleet named Kilgarrah with a purple and gold color scheme (purple for the main body and gold for the carapace) I’m probably going to lean heavily into Psyker bugs as I build it from 1k to 2k
I use a modified version of behemoth, adding gold to the smokestacks and blue stripes down the back. Was gonna use purple originally but fell in love with behemoth when I found it
Every time I think of the hivefleets of the tyranids, that one artwork of them represented as anime monster girls comes to mind. haunting me, tormenting me… Anyway. GO TEAM leviathan.
@@poopmastermikeit should be easy enough to type into google “Anime tyranids”. If you see weird looking girls with shirts having each hivefleet name, you’ve found it”.
This video has helped me figure out part of the reason 10ths rules have felt so lifeless to me. I thought Maybe it was all the universal keywords, witch on the whole are great for ease of access and easily understanding a rule at a a glance, but do come at the cost of flavour. But it’s also made me realize they decoupled subfactions from any kind of lore context. The subfactions are just the name of the play style. And that really bugs me as it would be really easy to do both. “Hive fleet Kronos, physic dominators” or “Hive fleet hydra, the unending swarm”. Let’s you have both. It’s flavourful and had a subfaction lore behind it, and you have a good idea of what the rules are going to be
Going with a custom fleet myself (Nidhoggr, a splinter fleet of Jormungandr) with my own colour scheme. Not really locked to any detachment yet, as I've been doing test games over TableTop Simulator, and my actual physical model collection so far amounts to a Deathleaper, a Hive Tyrant and 3, as of yet unassembled, Warriors. Gameplay-wise I'm most drawn towards Synaptic Nexus. So I'm thinking a pretty strong focus on brain bugs, maybe some other shooty bugs, and some Gargoyles, Raveners, and maybe a Trygon to back it up. Although with a stealthy contingent as well, numbering the Parasite of Mortrex, Deathleaper and a few various Lictors. Ideally I want to collect a Synaptic Nexus force, and then from there branch out to also be able to play it as Vanguard Onslaught.
I run custom I like to call hive fleet Necromancer for collection purposes. Basically its made of the survivng hive minds of Behemoth, Kraken, and Levithan. Army Size: Hieroduels (10), warriors (30), a few Neurotitans (7), & parasites (7), a couple Swarmlords (5), Termagants (25), Genestealers (15), Hormagaunts (10), and finally a massive swarm of Rippers (100).
I painted my Nids from the Leviathan Box as Hydra because I liked the colour scheme but that works out great since I wanted to play Unenending swarm anyway. awesome
I'm making my own hive fleet (debating on the name be Luska, Hades, or Asag) and I can't wait to try out some of these fitting detachments! Crushing stampede seems a perfect fit!
Usually all hive fleets are named after mythological creatures like kraken is an easy one to understand. I named my personal one as Typhon the deadliest monster in Greek mythology. You of course don’t have to Hades seems like an awesome Hive Fleet name.
@@shogunender8752 Update: I settled on Asag! I believe it's Sumerian in origin. A type of demonic creature that was so hideous it made fish boil in the sea, and led a giant rock army. Also, I was also going to name my fleet Typhon originally, but then GW announced it as an official fleet. Still cool that you made it!
I decided on one of the new ones, Lotan. I have no idea if they have any lore in the new codex but i like their colors and the freedom to choose what i want that comes with such a new subfaction.
Same with Space Marine chapters kind of. I'm 50/50 on it. On one hand it lets you paint however you'd like and doesn't stick you with an army that you'd like to play, but has a dumb paint scheme or vise versa. On the other, it definitely makes different hive fleets and chapters feel less special. At least it makes some fun homebrew stuff viable in game though.
@@bennyb.1742 yeah true. i was already painting my bugs whatever colors i want anyway so i feel like i just miss the more special narrow themes of hive fleets.
Custom Hive Fleet ( Ragnarök, black w/ yellow highlighted chitin ) looking forward to utilizing Emissary, roided Nyrant, Nicter, and Screamer alongside H-Tyrant and Deathleaper in a Synaptic Detachment. Finally an extra reason to care about battleshock abilities
Hive Fleet Skeltor, based off the Masters of the Universe villain Skeletor. As far as what units, just running what I think looks cool. But each Leader is painted like a different villain.
went custom as a splinter fleet of tiamat, calgar blue flesh tones, kantor blue carapace and greens of various hues for wing membranes claws hooves etc
From the newest blood angels omnibus Lords of Blood we get a good view of the war for Baal. Ka’Bandha didn’t play a large role it was more so the opening of the great rift from Cadia that crippled the fleet. All Ka’Bandha did was wipe out the Knights of Blood and nearly the Flesh Tearers.
Which Hive Fleet to choose? My own, of course. Hive Fleet Khaldune (pronounced Cull-doon), a Leviathan splinter fleet. Named for the planetary system they have nom'ed a few planets of, while also decimating the PDF forces down to a few regiments, and eating most of my Space Marines, which is why my own Chapter is going full Primaris.
I'm really disappointed that the burrowing units don't have a detachment rule. Would have been great for Raveners to have vanguard invader but instead they decided to make Von Ryans Leapers identical stats wise and give it to them instead. I find it annoying they made a new unit that's so similar, be more imaginative and make them different.
I have always painted my nids to match the original release art as a young player. Now that I have played since 92 I realize regardless of what anyone thinks it’s my army, my money, my time and my hobby. This is not a cheap hobby so paint what makes you happy and select the traits you want. If it’s a tournament and color scheme is part of the rules sure if that’s your thing, but if you play at a local game spot and someone starts telling you how to run your army ask yourself how is this game/ person across from you going to contribute towards your time. You are there for a good time and escape from that very thing. Stay humble fellow gamers.
I recently picked up the Onslaught Swarm box , Tyranids codex and cards. I already had the Leviathan half still in the box and I thought "why not !!". So I am ver y very new to Tyranids . Looking forward to another fun extension for my 40K hobby.
I’m debating making my give fleet some sort of weird amalgamation of multiple different remanants if other hive fleets that’s been stranded in the ghoul stars or something like that
Maybe GW is planning to devour the entire galaxy with the Tyranids and destroy the 40k setting, like they did with Warhammer Fantasy and the Old World? Then relaunch with Age of Robute set in some weird chaos realm in the warp.
Unending Swarm is a really rough one to fight. You either got shot out of oblivion or you get choked out on objectives. Not to mention some rumours being that MWs no longer spill over, it's annoying that it seems like a detachment you can't win against. Cause like you can give Termagants LHs, Sustained Hits, stealth and cover from the variable units you can take as Nids.
I also think each codex is going to have a detachment that hard counters some from other Codices. For instance, a special weapons detachment from Astartes might buff Torrent and Melta weapons, and 10D6 flamer shots should melt a decent number of gaunts. Bladeguard w/Chaplain should melt a squad of gaunts in melee. However, that detachment is going to have a rough time playing against a Crusher detachment.
@@XealotCoils Not when delivered by a Crusader. I've had them soak up half a Tau army's shooting for two rounds, plus putting enough hurt on Terminators that Guilliman had to step in and finish them. I'm getting great value from them so far.
I’m doing Hive Fleet Chimera, a mix of Leviathan and Behemoth. I paint newer models Leviathan and older ones Behemoth. Except the Swarmlord, that’s Behemoth because it’s iconic
Just started playing 40k because he basic rules are free and I had a bunch of genestealers and a few others that I had acquired over the years because I found them cheap and they looked cool. Obviously no matching color scheme at the moment, but for now I'm calling them Hive Fleet Hodag.
I am thinking of doing Hive Fleet Hadley's Hope when I finally get to bugs. Maybe get some xenomorph head swaps, or use some models from "Another Glorious Day in the Corps" mixed in to give that HR Geiger flavor.
whichever you feel like painting because it doesn't matter wooo isn't it great how it doesn't matter any more? I love spending hours customising my models and then GW going 'actually that no longer matters enjoy, this is for your benefit :)'
I wish GW would retroactively say the Megarachnids from the Horus Heresy were an ancient Hive Fleet without psychers, and give us rules for psycherless Hive Fleet detachments
- Hive Fleet Behemoth for the win!...oh.. Space Marine Plot Armour. (Ultramarines) - Ok, Hive Fleet Kraken for the win!... oh Space Marine Plot Armour. (Ultramarines) - Hive Fleet Leviathan for the win!...let me guess, Space Marine Plot Armour? (Ultramarines and Blood Angels) - Hive Hydra for the win? What about them? Two main tactical losses, one to a combined force of Eldar, Dark Eldar and Harlequins. Ok. Who was the other one? White Scars, arent they, they bloody are, they're marines right? - What about Jormungandr, my favourites? Oh yeah of course, S.M plot armour. Oh really, no? Who then? Ah the Imperial Fleet, arent those the guys that space marines work for, oh they are, ah there we are then. - Surely Gorgon? The Tau, really? No way! By themselves? Oh with the Imperial Guard. Hang on there's that word Imperial again; do these guys chill with space marines by any chance; they do? Ha, wow so it's actually Imperial plot armour. - Are there any hive fleets still knocking about that are causing a threat? Sort of you say, please elaborate. Kronos ah cool, who have they been fighting and winning against? Chaos Khorne Demons, Night Lords, Thousand Sons so no Imperium forces yet, ok well give it time. Oh and Hive Tiamet haven't fought anyone apart from eldar rangers and are building something cool?! Sounds good tell me more. No marines? Oh there were, who? One 5 man Deathwatch Kill team. Ok, please tell me no word got out from that kill team before they were brutally silenced by swarms of hormagaunts. Oh they managed to get a vox message to their Corvus Blackstar and now the Watch Fortress and subsequently the whole imperium know where they are.... oh for fuck sake.
I feel like locking rules to sub factions only ever really made sense for space marines.. I feel like gw saw the effect different chapter cultures had on how space marines feel, and tried making that happen for all the other factions.. Always felt abit forced to me
Would be cool if there was like a major subfaction rule or 2, then 1 or 2 smaller rules for things like nephilem king, other splinters, or marine subfactions. Not locked to a single subfaction, but you choose one for flavour
Because GW borrows so much from the Holy Bible, it is hilarious to know that hive Fleet Behemoth ( a Hebrew word) could literally be translated as high Fleet Cows, or donkeys 😂😂😂 "The biblical text refers to horses, donkeys, oxen, cows, sheep, goats and more as 'be•he•mot,' but, obviously, this is not the case with our word today." I'd love to see somebody paint the Army in a bovine theme😂😂😂
Very nice to see some lore help for new and fresh Hive Tyrants, I mean players, thanks Auspex! Minor note: I think for Hive Fleet Jormungandr, the J is spelled with a "Zh" like the Soviet general Zhukov. (So like "Zhormungandr")
@@FireWarrior2013 You're right! Every one of my friends has spelled it with the "Zh" before, plus I think it sounds cooler, but I must concede after various Google searches that it was pronounced correctly by Auspex. Oh well. :D
To my eye, the vanguard detachment and the synapitic nexus both seem best balanced against the current one (Invasion fleet). Though if your collection was skewed heavily on one particular direction, you won't lose out to much. Very positive. I hope they pull off the same trick with the rest (though some definitely need a drastic rebalance) Personally, I have a load of vanguard invaders, and I always liked 9th kraken, so going to give that a go worth my Oroborous nids.
At a time where game balance is crappy, we need to focus more on the fun of the game. Focussing on themes and replicating lore battles for the sake of it.
Fluff agnosticism of the 10E rules is just an oxymoron and an atrocious case of ludonarrative dissonance. How you painted your Iyanden Ghost Warriors didn't really matter already back before as the player could always argue that they were playing a custom Craftworld that was similar to Iyanden, but the fluff itself was always preserved within the ruleset as it represented how Iyanden waged war compared to other Craftworlds not because they were bored, but because of their own unique history... I can now imagine that Iyanden Ghost Warriors will be just reduced to a Spirit Host detachment that any Craftworld can use! And Ulthwe will get shafted hard since the Black Guardians won't be represented by a random generic detachment...
