IMO, these sorts of videos are awkward. loads of mathhammer is required to make these sorts of videos useful to everyone. that obviously takes a load of time, and even the best at mathhammer will often get things wrong. doing a basic version of it, with a minimal amount of mathhammer, means that there's a lot of assumptions and made, personal choices are involved, and some of the maths isn't totally accurate. so, videos like this always end up being misleading in some way. i'm not faulting you, Craig, that's just what happens when this type of thing is done by spending a sane amount of time on it :) one standout to me is that the the termagants don't have have lethal hits. when they're used as damaging units in a competitive army, they'll definitely have lethal hits, at least at the start of the battle! not giving them lethal hits, and them listing them as the worst shooting unit, is likely to make some players avoid using termagants without fully researching them. not including detachment buffs is fair enough for time purposes, tho the invasion fleet buffs make some units genuinely competitive, instead of being pretty bad in other detachments. as it is, there's definitely some useful info here, but IMO it really should be used as just a guideline. players should do more research before making their own conclusions :) feedback for future similar videos: - it's best to include all the popular choices (carnifex devourers, for one. also, have the carnifexes with and without OOE separately. people often say it's bad to use carnifexes without OOE, without having the numbers to prove it) - make it clear if you're including the extras in the points, eg, are you counting OOE+2 carnifxes as 250 or 390 points - remember to use all weapons, don't just use the main one (eg carnifexes) - use exact maths (eg, barbgaunts don't do 0 damage to a land raider on average, they do a fraction of a wound. keeping that accurate will let the points per wound be a real number, instead of NA :)) - it would be nice to see a version of this that includes the combined damage a unit could deal if it shoots and then charges the target. norn assimilator needs its voice heard! cheers!

Good Eye opener on how terrible they made the Norn datasheets. I have no doubts they will be fixed in next edition, or are hoping a huge points decrease at end of month.

In theory a big tough, high OC objective babysitter should be okay if its damage is a bit lower . . . then you realize a damn Nightbringer C'tan is tougher, hits harder and is cheaper than the Norns. A C'tan doesn't have the OC or movement of a Norn but being able to shrug off hits and murder stuff better is a pretty good tradeoff.

Unit Crunch shows an Exocrine has just a 24.8% chance to do 6 or more wounds to a Land Raider (not in cover, much worse if it is in cover). In fact, it has a higher chance (36.5%) to do nothing at all. Not sure how you ended up with 6 or whether its an error.

It would be nice to pick 3/4 data sheets and check how they do with different buffs (+1 to wound from neurolictor, lethal hits from invasion…). For example lethal hits vs catan for termagants are a huge deal!

I think we independently arrived at this conclusion, so it’s great to have independent validation. What is a shame though is that we have to stick to our most efficient datasheets to retain any semblance of competitiveness. and in any given GT we are just one or two bad matchups away from coming bottom of table.

So if we see a minor points reduction on Zoanthropes, they will be almost unambiguously the best ranged option in the book? Exocrine is predictably good, nice to see the Maleceptor performing so well though. Considering how utterly cool it is, and how bad it’s rules were when the kit was first released, my alien heart-like organ is filled with what the lesser prey species might term ‘joy’.

sad to see that warriors are still overcosted compared to what they do :( but still shows that the nids weapons are just to weak, i remember in older editions where a venom cannon followed lore and where good vs tanks.

If the tyrannofex doesn't move it hits on a 2 plus and rerolls one's if you shoot the exocrine first, wounds almost everything on a 2+ or 3+ and if you get a low damage roll you can do a cp reroll. My tyrannofex has been putting in a lot of work for me.
@obsidi2
@obsidi2 5 месяцев назад
Yes, that can work, but its CP heavy (you may want your CP to go elsewhere or a different re-roll), and the opponent can/will CP the save as well. So your actual effectiveness is a lot lower then your expected effectiveness because of the high likelihood of an opponent save re-roll (assuming you are shooting something with a 4+ invul). Also the kind of things that the Rupture Cannon is best against (10+T units) are not the kind of things the exocrine is best at shooting (it wants to shoot either 3-4T for a 2+ wound roll, or 6-7T for a 3+ wound roll), so your exocrine is going to be a bit less efficient at that shooting into a T9-12. Overall, I find its often not worth bringing the TFex, but the Exocrines are almost always worth it.
@dmr7356
@dmr7356 5 месяцев назад
@@obsidi2 I use two exocrines in my list, I would just try it out if I were you guys it's been doing me really well. I brought an avatar of khaine down to 1 wound on the first turn because my opponent got overconfident. I shot it with 1 exocrine, 1 tyrannofex and 6 zoanthropes and my opponent had to respect my shooting the rest of the game. Also I've been taking 2 units of hormagaunts to screen and 2 units of gargoyles 1 in reserve and it's been helping me too. @@scolack123 How do you get +1 attacks or +1 AP on tyrannofex? Are you playing Crusade? Because that might change things (50% extra damage from +1 attack is a lot). As for the CP, I was assuming a 4+ invul, which in a lot of tournament level situations your going to be facing.

Warriors and barbgaunts are actually quite good against 20x units, because they both have large number of blast weapons. Should have had at least one unit considered that was a 20x man (either at the guardsman/intercessor base level, for instance a 20x gargoyle unit or a 20x Primaris Crusader Squad). Primes are always just bad for ranged warriors, so you should never have that added. Really wish Fleshborer Hive had a higher strength (6-8) or -1 AP. Even at 6S, it would be quite good against C'tan. I'm surprised the Barbed Hierodule was not included, at least for comparison sake.

Thanks! I love these type of videos. I just learned a few days ago that you get "each" special weapon for the Ternagants, twice within a 20 man unit. Ngl, felt pretty stupid about it. That is quite an amount of dmg wasted on my part. Random Tyranid questions i m still not 100% sure about: Can you reroll abilities like the D3 healing from Old One Eyes? And do you get the standard melee claws and teeths, no matter what loadout you choose on top of everything else?

The Hierophant's Twin Dire Bio-cannons? I know points per wound would be abysmal and it doesnt really belong in a standard game, but i just printed one and id love to know how its guns stack up. Seem good on paper.
@obsidi2
@obsidi2 5 месяцев назад
Its actually not as bad as some people think. Its only real issue is that they are not efficient compared to exocrines/Maleceptor so its only bad "by comparison" into a lot of units. Its obviously best on 3 wound models (gravis/terminators/custodies), the problem for these units is that while Harridan is good into them Exo/Male is amazing. But its also fairly effective at taking out light vehicles because of its 10S. For instance, it can kill a Rhino with a single Bio-cannon, so it can kill two Rhinos per turn, which isn't bad. Into more heavy armor, with an exocrine and both Bio-cannons, it can kill a Land Raider per turn (assuming no cover or pyrovore turns off cover and no armor of contempt), again that is not bad even though it costs a lot of points. Its biggest problem is that it is rather easy to kill, having only a 3+ save and no invul. Using the Synaptic Nexus you can give it a constant invul that can help mitigate that. I've also run it in Crusher so it can self-harm for the +1 to hit, which isn't bad.

zoanthropes do not do 9 wounds to a landraider. without enemy using aoc or cover it does an average of 7. with cover or aoc 5. with both 3.
