@@Viewer765 I actually did a video on this here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X1BUXLx_NdY.html - In my opinion it's between the Switchbot Lock Pro, Aqara U200 and Nuki 4 Pro
My Yale Keyfree is dying on me and the new yale ones don't have a number pad which is the most convenient thing in the world. Your videos have helped me so much as there is not much information online about these types of locks. Thank you so much
Great video. I've had two of the Yale Conexis locks over about 6 years now. As mentioned the app is rubbish. On the occasions I've needed to use it to open the door (when I've got my phone but no card/tag) the app is always signed out and I end up spending ages normally in the rain signing in before being able to open the door. Additionally, to share a digital key within the app with a guest, you have to buy each virtual key. The only plus I've found is B&Q seem to always sell packets of Cards or Tags or Stickers in their regular sales for a few pounds meaning I've got a few packs of each in storage to give out to house guests that I can just wipe when they fail to return them.
One feature that I like about the Simpled lock is the fact that if you simply shut the door, it is locked from the outside (although I appreciate you should lift the handle for full security). Do any other smart locks offer this facility?
The new Switchbot lock pro will have a closed sensor so as long as you lift a handle auto lock might be possible…I will be reviewing it when it comes out soon
I have used a V1 Nuke since the initial product launch and I must say its a somewhat frustrating experience. While Nuke has "support" for multipoint locks in the software it doesn't really address the issue of accidentally not lifting the handle. Frequently other family members or visitors will forget to lift the handle which can result in the auto locking failing into a "jammed" or "motor blocked" status - this results in having to cycle the lock and usually recalibrating it. What a pain. It doesn't help that my door has quite a strong swing back when you lift the handle; so if you let go at the top of the lift it will ever so slightly move the multipoint mechanism such that you can not lock the door - you have to gently lower the handle... I have reached out to Niki multiple times regarding the software support for multilocks with no fixes in sight for these frustrating issues. I would much rather that instead of "jammed" status the lock just ignores the locking failure (after logging) and resumes into the "unlocked" state until the next door open/close event. Perhaps there has been hardware changes in subsequent versions that mitigate the way it fails upon being unable to complete a lock cycle but I am loathe to "upgrade" at significant cost only to find it has the same problem. I would buy a new door if someone would offer a powered HomeKit compatible multipoint system that can wholly lock itself.
I have the simpled installed and rate it very highly. The app is brilliant and works without issues. I do find the fingerprint (like most other units) is temperamental when it's raining or your finger is wet. No problem though, still have the card and PIN pad. 😊😊
Thank you so much for saying this! Indeed wet finger / biometric can be a pain, especially here in England! However we have attempted to make the material as water resistant as possible and a quick wipe with a sleeve usually works a treat too!
Because of my suspicion of tech I would only ever fit a smart lock to my apartment door that allows entry to be gained using a key. In fact Yale don’t recommend fitting their conexis lock to apartments for this reason
I have the conexis l1 on two doors as that was the only option at the time. I also have the zwave modules. Installation was fine. The app is abysmal, as is connectivity. The bridge is way too expensive considering you need one for each lock.
I've been following the develop of smart locks for years and have nearly pulled the trigger many times but there's always something missing. Personally, I'd like HomeKit and now HomeKey support but the biggest drawback is the lack of a solution for pushing up the handle. If I need to lock the door remotely (either because I've forgotten to lock it, or because I've had to remotely unlock it for some reason) there's a good chance that the handle hasn't been pulled up. I know it can take a bit of physical effort and would require a decent power source but surely it can't be technically impossible.
There’s beginning to be a few multi point mechanisms appear that do auto latch which would solve the issue of needing to lift the handle but these seem to only be available to trade at the moment
@@MarksTechVlogs That’s interesting. I hadn’t come across them. So they replace the mechanisms itself rather than provide a way of lifting the handle? I imagine that could be quite a tricky job for the layperson.
Yeah, that’s the issue…you’d need a locksmith. Ultion have the ultion bolt and when I reached out about it they said they only sell them to locksmiths…there’s also others like the Yale Lockmaster which auto lock which as long as you get the right size I can’t imagine being difficult to fit but probably best fitted by an expert
You are technically right but also wrong regarding the Yale lock. You can either have a yale midule or the Z-wave misule both require a bridge but Z-wave is an open platform and this wirks with apple homekit so in a way they do offer homekit connectivity. The L2 comes as standard with the tale module but the L1 comes with non but you can add the Z-wave module (Yale sells these)
My current setup is the U200 on my front door because homekey is fantastic…I do miss the geofencing option I had with Nuki but don’t really need it thanks to homekey. I still have the Switchbot Lock Pro on the back door mostly because of that contact sensor as it tells me if I have accidentally left it open (which stops the cat getting out!) I did use a Nuki every day for about a year and a half before the U200. I have a video comparing all three coming out later today 😀
I have Conexis L1 but bought the module to connect it to the bridge as I have Yale Sync alarm. It works fine so long as you have internet. If your internet is down you can't get in as no key at all as backup. The cards and fobs work on Bluetooth and are super unreliable
I've had my conexis L1 for 4 years. The fob has worked flawlessly every time and I use a Zwave dongle to connect it to home assistant so I can use my phone to unlock it without needing their absolutely appalling app. The app is the only reason I am considering a new lock as I can't add new keys now the app is that bad.
@@CaptainQwerty I've had the same experience as you, I use the Zwave module to connect to my Home Assistant, and like all my fobs and cards, it's all been reliable and flawless, so I dunno why the OP has had so many issues with fobs etc. The cards and fobs don't use bluetooth btw @simondennis101, they use NFC. Anyway, yeah, the app has always been almost useless, but Yale are pulling a bit of a fast one on that, as you no doubt know by now. Instead of just making it work properly using the built-in bluetooth comms of the lock, they've just dumped it, to be replaced by their new shiny one, which forces the purchase of another module, and potentially a bridge. If you act fast though one can acquire the module and a magnet thingy it can work with for door position sensing, very cheaply from Yale (£5). The module appears to be just another bluetooth, maybe modern up to date BLE or something, I dunno, but you also get forced to update the locks firmware (takes ages), which disables the built-in bluetooth, so no more fancy touchpad activated blue LED for you.... Good news though, once all done, after factory resetting your lock, you can use the new app, and the new dongle thing, to manage the card/fobs flawlessly, then shove your zwave module back in to carry on using Home Assistant. Home Assistant in my case anyway, didn't even know or bother that anything had happened to the lock.
Hi Mark, thank you for the very informative video. I spoke to a locksmith as I was considering the Yale conexis L2. He strongly dissuaded me saying that damp gets in and it will stop working in 3 months. Having seen your video, I am tempted to get the ultion nuki plus. Would this withstand the weather better? Thanks
100%! - The Ultion Nuki (or any Nuki Smart Lock) only goes on the inside of your door so is protected from the weather. If you buy an external keypad accessory that will go on the outside but is wireless and water resistant. At the moment the Ultion Nuki still bundles the Nuki 3 rather than the 4th generation Nuki smart locks so I'd either look at the Nuki 4 or 4 Pro directory at Nuki or even look at the Switchbot Lock Pro which has just come out (review coming on my channel tomorrow!). Hope that helps
@MarksTechVlogs You mention that your own front door requires that additional key turn/click and pushing the handle down to open from the outside, do all these products manage that part okay?
I think that's the same as mine although mine only has one actual spindle but even if the door is unlocked from the outside I still need to put the key in and give it an extra turn for it to open from the outside, is that the same as yours? If so either the Nuki or Switchbot Lock Pro would work
Hi Mark thanks for your videos. The Nuki Pro 4 lock cannot be purchased with the cover that extends up to the handle like the Nuki Plus. Is it not compatible?
I think you're referring to the Ultion Nuki which comes with a secure cylinder and new handle...at the moment Ultion haven't upgraded these to Nuki 4's...I'm guessing this is because they have stock to clear first. The Nuki 4 however, does fit on the Ultion handle so you could buy the Ultion Nuki and Nuki 4 then sell the Nuki 3 which comes with the Ultion Nuki on eBay or something...it's a bit of a pain. You also, don't actually need the Ultion handle...I've got a Nuki on my back door without the Ultion handle
Hi Mark, Thanks for the video I have Conexis L1 smart lock and I want to replace it with another one. As far as I can tell, Simpled is the only lock that can offer a "remote lock" feature. Am I right?
The Nuki also has a remote lock feature especially with the new matter version…you just have to make sure you lift the handle. Personally, I’d pick Nuki over Simpled because it is more secure. I will also be reviewing the new switchbot lock pro before the end of the month which is also going to have an auto lock feature (again, you’ll need to lift the handle)
@@MarksTechVlogs Thanks for your reply. I will stay tuned for the upcoming reviews 😊 If I leave in a hurry and forget to lift the handle, So , according to what you explained, The Simpled lock will be the only one which is technically locked (even if not 100% secure). Am I confused ?
Yeah that’s right…it also kind of depends on your door…so my front door (even when unlocked) can’t be opened from the outside without another turn of a key (or the open function from the Nuki)
@@MarksTechVlogs okay. I like the Loqed and Simpled Locks the most. I'll maybe call tomorrow and see about shipping to the US. I preferably want something with a fingerprint.
@@MarksTechVlogs I mean on a Mul T Lock security lock (with a thumb turn on the inside) and security door that has 3 bolts going to the walls on the lock side and one each top and bottom. I tried to take out the key fob today but it didn't work - any ideas on how I can do that? What am I missing? I have images but cannot send here...
I’ve used the Ultion Nuki for a year and a half and have had absolutely no issues and Ultion’s customer service has been good when I needed to enquire about something
I also would not recommend the Yale. Ive had e one for about 4 years on the promises of HomeKit support and really disappointed. Also support is not great. The early one (L1) had a bug where they kept bleeping when there is rain drops where you present the card/fob. There is supposed to be a module to update the firmware to address this and I have requested this but never had reply. I expected more from this company being that they are a main brand in this industry.
I think it’s probably a case of Yale are more of a lock than tech company…if Yale and a company like Nuki were to join forces they could create something awesome
I think the now forced firmware update via their new app (because they're dumping the old one) and the new bluetooth module (act fast to get it cheap) might fix that infernal beeping, mines never done it coz it doesn't get rained on. The update does disable the capacitive touch button, and the on-board bluetooth, but the new app is much better, 'virtual keys' are also now free apparently.
@@Tekwyzard Yes the new module fixes it. Unfortunately I had already bought the module and the gateway but i still ordered another module for a fiver. Yes, new app is leaps ahead, Shame that the still is no apple integration as once promised though :(
Not that I’ve found, I’m keeping an eye out for if the Aqara A100 gets released in the UK…I would also hope it’s something Nuki are exploring for the Nuki 4 (assuming they’re working on one!)
@@Viewer765 The Aqara U200 is now out and works with Apple HomeKey. My full review is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UyK-EZOL7Vk.html
My multilock door has to be turned a little extra with the key after unlocking before it will open with the handle will all these locks work with mine Thanks
My front door is the same...the Nuki works as does the Loqed. The Simpled will also work because you remove your cylinder as part of the installation process...not sure about the Yale
@@MarksTechVlogs it is a shame , I like the product and have had it since December. Just hope it can be allows to be controlled open sourced , without their server , otherwise it's been a waste of money.
