This is the first part of a look back at all of the third person Spider-Man games. In this one, I go through all of the passable or mediocre titles leading up to Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention how Spider-Man The Movie lets you play a Green Goblin (Harry Osborn) with his own voice-acted parallel plotline, flying goblin glider, and a totally different moveset. That alone was worth the price of entry for me.
If you thought Cosmo and Timmy's Dad voicing Venom was mind blowing Little known fact, In the Ulitmate Spiderman Video Game, Spidey was voiced by Mac from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
I will say, I was so young when I played Spider-Man 2, that when Bruce Campbell asked me to go jump in a lake, I literally went to Central Park and jumped into a lake. You can imagine my confusion when nothing happened. XD
TVJUNK85 I doubt that, since when the tutorial is active you can move only for a few metres and can't get to Central Park. So no, you can't jump in the lake.
Lol i remember in god hand someone said something like I'm surprised you didn't fall off the bridge and I couldn't beat him so I just jumped off a bridge over and over until my dad told me first that I was too young to play god hand and second he asked me why I was jumping off a bridge and I told him why and i told him he just started hysterically laughing
Y'know, if you think about it, Spider-Man 2 the game is the complete 180 of Spider-Man 2 the movie. In the game, Spider-Man is tempted with being irresponsible, and giving up his life as Peter Parker, because it isn't perfect, and in the movie, Peter actively acts irresponsible by giving up on being Spider-Man because it's getting in the way of his life as Peter Parker.
@@SB992REBORN for the first part of the spiderman 2 game, but after meeting black cat he becomes tempted with becoming only spiderman and no longer peter parker, so hes still right.
Honestly I don't think said game you are referring to is definitive. It's probably me just recently finishing Spider-Man The New Animated Series, but I feel like a Spider-Man game should have a comic style. Similar to Ultimate but Jesus Christ The New Animated Series looks awesome even today.
@@jfknvd726 Um... I played Spider-man Ps4 and barely even noticed the upgrade points, I mean, I see where the repetition comes into some side missions. I don't see how that makes the game garbage. It revived a dying spider-man game series. Personally, I hope they do make improvements in the sequel, but that doesn't mean the first one sucked.
@@jfknvd726 you can't be referring to spiderman ps4 are you? If you are what an awfully incorrect opinion, did you even play the game past just picking up harmless collectibles around the city?
Raid- Aid Treyarch: Web of Shadows was so good! I bet the sequel will be even better! Activision: You guys are fired not a lot of people played that game, let’s go give the rights to Beenox, they’ll probably do something mediocre with it so that we can focus on CoD. (Theme from Seinfeld plays)
GodzillaMendoza: There just hasn’t been a definitive Spider-Man game where everyone raves about perfect it is and wait excitedly when the sequel comes out a few years later. Insomniac: NOW THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR ME!
"goddamn it kid.do you know just how many people have died because I used my godlike abilities to get a 2 dollar piece of rubber? SHAME ON YOU there's a rape victim out there wondering why spiderman wasn't there to save her.you know what F*CK You this is my gallon now." Godzilla Mendoza *dies of laughter*
I remember doing a side mission in Spiderman 2 where I had to defeat these dudes in big green armor and I had a random event where I had to return a little girl's balloon right. And when I went out and returned it in the middle of the mission, the next thing I knew I had hit with a missile and the little girl flew into the lake
Ultimate spider-man has one major flaw... It's too dam short. But I'd love to the next spider-man game series to be based off the ultimate comics, it could be the Arkham to the spidey series, I think they should remaster this games story, add in side quests and update just so the story is at least 3 hours longer. And then make sequels.
A.j Kingston In the game Red Dead Redemption, you play as a character on his own journey, only to be killed at the end. After that, you get to do some more stuff (very little) as his son. I'd love it if they did something like that for the Ultimate Spider-Men. Plus, you can free roam at any time, and i think costumes could help if you don't wanna be Miles at the end of the game, but the voice would be the same
Dragon Hunter273 Actually no. There’s a feature in the game where Spidey uses this device to stick them to the side of the building when you knock them off. You don’t see it unless you watch them fall
Dragon Hunter273 Your welcome. It’s such a cool feature. I remember when I was little playing Spider-Man 2 and I would just grab thugs and swing them to the top of a building and just toss them off and kill them 😂😂😂. Glad that’s not in this game
Nice work! The way they handled USM being part of the Ultimate continuity actually turned out to be a little disappointing. When the game came out, it was fully billed as being part of the canon right then and there. But soon enough, it was contradicted, and then they just decided to have it be the basis for a comic story arc a few years later. Not as cool as it simply fitting into the universe like, say, EA is doing with Battlefront II.
Superhero Video Games with cbake76 I personally liked how they used the game as a storyline in the comics. It felt nostalgic because I played the game as a kid and now as an adult I’m reading the comics.
@@blitzgaming8466 yeah but I really want people to give spider man 3 a chance that game was really really good but people suck at it so automatically bad and it makes me sad 😞
venom is not Spiderman's arch nemesis green goblin is I won't deny venom is his most popular and most dangerous enemy but goblin has been around longer and is more personal plus he actually killed someone important to Spiderman not like venom who just threatens them.
***** no I just realized green goblin truly is because if Spiderman is the bomb squad then green goblin is definitely his arch enemy considering throwing bombs is his thing.
Ultimate Spider-Man is my DEFINITIVE Spider-Man game (until now). Great story, missions, gameplay, Voice-Overs, cut scenes, collectibles (Other bloated "open-world" games, take note), and boss battles. This is video game and comic goodness at it's best.
“There hasn’t been a definitive Spider-Man game where everyone raves about how good it is and waits in anticipation for the sequel” Spider-Man PS4:Allow me to introduce myself
AlexTheMan Keiser I upload as soon as I get things finished. I don't really have a schedule. I'm still in high school so it's hard to devote a lot of time to videos. My next video is a big review for Arkham Knight and I know for sure it'll be in the next month.
Is Ultimate Spider Man's New York scaled down? I still feel the buildings in Spider-Man 2 are larger. I like both games, but I over all prefer Spider-Man 2.
I'll just keep playing both because they represent the spider man games fans wanted and deserved. It's sad that no other spider man game has come close to their philosophy and standard of quality.
You know, I never knew about the legacy of Spider-Man 2 when I bought it a few years ago, I just bought it cause Spider-Man. Very good entry point into the games. Got it for just a few bucks at a junkyard, no joke
Holy shit, this video is about to hit 6 years old, I remember when I first started watching Xavier this video was at least 1 year old, crazy to think how time has passed by so fast
Well, not exactly, did you see his review, he likes the game, but doesn't like wall crawling cuz it sucks and the stupid Mary Jane and miles levels that EVERYONE hates, but besides those two and some other minor things your right, sorry if I come off mean, I'm a nerd that has nothing to do =P
I am realizing I have been watching you constantly since 2017. This was the first video I saw from you, and my god your videos have made my day multiple times. I was 12 when I found your channel, now I'm almost 20. Thank you Xavior for all the good memories man, and also many quotes I say unironically to friends. (I straight up almost did your deadpool highschool yearbook bit at my graduation)
0:53 little did any of us know that game would come out just a few years after this video and now I’ve came full circle looking back on this series and just laughing at How what he described at the beginning of this video was exactly what we got and that sequel finally came
I loved spider-man enter electro when I was like 4 I'd always play as Cosmic Spiderman and fucking kick Electros ass And then I'd play the Spiderman movie game and do the cheat code to play as Mary Jane and id play that one level so Mary Jane will kiss Mary Jane
It’s funny how many times I’ve watched this series. It’s so funny, entertaining, and a great in-depth review. I guess the reason I’ve watched this so much, Is because it has a lot of replayability value.
I’m curious, does it look graphically good on PC? Usually the PC version of Games are the best graphically, so I wonder if it looks better than the PS2 port.
@@-Teague- true, but I also see a lot of people criticizing the game for dumb reasons. "There's no fall damage, MJ is not sexy, the web swinging gets boring after a while, you can't hit the pedestrians, the finishers are not creative enough, etc".
A game that everyone raves to about how perfect it is... Damn. That is really awesome. Too bad there isnt any Spiderman game like that which came out in 2018 for the PS4 with an additional DLC campaign for $19.99 only.
@@returnedtomonkey8886 Bit of a late answer, but if you beat the game in the hardest difficulty, it's unlockable in one of the menus, the one with the costumes and cheats. Basically it's the same missions, but with different dialogue and another setup. Also you're technically Harry as G.G., not Norman.
If they ever bring ultimate spiderman to ps4 (as an emulated upscale) I would buy it instantly ! oh and hulk and venom fought against each other and hulk was the clear victor ;) ( I know, nerd AF, I know ) But really liked this video :D
+kingdomhearts31000 I would buy that game in a heartbeat if they ever remastered it. Though the chances of it are sort of slim. Its not a game that was on a ton of people's radars at the time and Spider-Man 2 would most likely get the honor if any of them do at all.
+GodzillaMendoza i know, I would love for them to remaster that game. I liked that game way more then spiderman 2 ( even tough I also liked thzt game) have you heard the rumors of sucker punch making a spiderman game ? That would be so awesome !
kingdomhearts31000 I actually haven't heard that, but I can't overstate how amazing that would be! Of all the superhero games to come out in recent memory, some of the most competent and well designed have been from the infamous series and I would love to see how crazy and complicated they make all the different powers and abilities. And if they put as much work into aesthetics for that as they do with infamous, the game will look gorgeous.
+GodzillaMendoza i cannot agree with you more! And hopefully it will be a game separate from the movies, so that they can use other marvel characters in the game (I love it when other characters make a cameo or are even boss battles !)
+kingdomhearts31000 I've been wondering lately how I would feel about a SM game set within the MCU and I think it would be cool to have cameos from Avengers and stuff, but that sort of limits the scope of the story to just which ever people they can get to do the voices and restricts the villain too. I guess it depends on how its done. I personally would prefer another game that tries to be in the comics canon like Web of Shadows where anyone can show up and all the backstory for the game is the books. That one felt the most natural to me.
For me Spiderman The Movie was the best. Sure, i loved Spiderman for PSX and Spiderman 2 for PS2 but god damn, those stealth stages in the first one and that giant mech battle, and the Scorpion fight, i loved them so bad. Especially when you get to play the game as Green Goblin. Spiderman 2 had great boss battles and side missions like joining Black Cat to beat the shiet out of these freaks with the robot suits down by the river. I didn't like amazing Spiderman very much due to art style and the fact that they turned Venom into a lifeless hobo and the symbiote into a flesh eating parasite of some sort
To everyone trying to find the song at 11:17 where Godzillamendoza talks about The Ultimate Spider-Man The Name of this metal track is... "This Is War" By Silence Free Style Free LOOK IT UP!
I can tell you have a deep passion for the spider universe and it was pretty nice to hear you relive those games mostly forgotten by now. Makes me wanna go and play some spider games again just like the good ol times. do you remember the hulk game where you could destroy everything in the city? that game was amazing too. And i hope youre pretty hyped about the upcoming spider game
Well, if this ain't a coinkidink, the day before I plan on starting my lets play of the first movie game, I stumble upon this excellent video series. And this in spite of not even looking up anything spiderman related in a long while.
DUDE, I loved Ultimate Spider-Man! It just nailed the spidey gaming experience. From the swinging, to his witty banter, to the villains, to the music, to the comic book graphics...it was brilliant! Only shortcoming is that I found it to be a little bit on the short side. That and the PS1 original are the best, in my opinion. Are you looking forward to the upcoming PS4 game?
I can't list the things I would do for an HD re-release of Ultimate. And I sure am looking forward to the new PS4 game. I actually have a whole video giving my thoughts on it, and you should check it out if you haven't already. Thanks for watching!
13:49 But in the ultimate universe Peter once killed a man with a single punch and toned down his strength to keep his no killing rule and when injured in his final hours of living he lifted up a Gas Truck to kill the green goblin
Spider-man ps1 is my first game as far as i remember, i was playing the demo on pc, it was all in english, and since english isn't my first language i didn't understood shit, still played the hell out of that demo, and got the full game on ps1 as soon as i got the console, it's what made Spider-man one of my favorite characters, plus Carnage/Octopus was fucking terrifying when i was a kid, and even to this day i still get laught from this awesome ending. Played Spider-man 1 and 2 (movies) at a friend house, didn't fully experienced them. Ultimate Spider-man was my first PS2 game, remember playing the intro over and over cause i didn't had a memory card, then i got the memory card and shit got real, i also think it's one underestimated and forgotten gem, and it's nice to see someone talking about it.
