For those curious about Charge Blade, do it. It seems complicated but once you got it down its an amazing flexible weapon for anything you want basically. Also also it makes learning other weapons a lot easier that way since you got the most complicated weapon down If that doesn't convince you there is a chainsaw mode with the Charge blade just saying :v

I would, but I'm literally handicapped in one specific way that prevents me from timing parry-type things consistently. I can do anything else... except time the same move correctly multiple times. I like the idea of morphing weapons, and that Rise CB isn't literally just unga bunga impact phial SAED like World CB, but I get maybe one in ten good runs. I still take out CB and LS to have that one good run when my nerves aren't screwing me, though. But hey, for people like me I guess there's Evade Extender Switch Axe, 4Head.

Sns needs better element. Elemental dmg in rise is so damn weak. crit element on some of the best elemental hitzones will only net you like 1 additional point of damage, 2 if you are lucky. Raw should not be so prominent. Also somehow has the best block/counters in the game and the lances are just....oof.
@pockystyx4087
@pockystyx4087 2 года назад
@@ligaar0849 Agreed; World/Iceborne and Rise have really pushed raw meta hard. You just throw crit on whatever weapon you want and ignore the elements (outside of Alatreon). Funnily enough; Elemental damage is pretty much king in Monster Hunter Stories 2, as the most resisted "elemental" type in that game is non-elemental. The raw-equivalent for that game is Dragon; since it basically has only a scant few monsters that have any worthwhile resistances to it; and elemental damage is VERY strong when going for weaknesses. Wish they could translate that into the main series.
@ligaar0849
@ligaar0849 2 года назад
@@pockystyx4087 I would disagree that World Iceborne pushed it. It was incredibly strong in endgame sets. I feel like raw will always be "meta" because the meta is attacking practically only weak parts of the monster, Element is just more widely useful. Its almost like a flat damage(ish) with every strike. Element also had a lot of higher motion values for specific moves on weapons, allowing for it to be even more useful overall. Rise doesnt seem to have that. I think the average elemental value for the weakpoint on the monster is only 30, where in raw it is usually something like 60-80.

Your great sword section was fantastic. Thank you for telling the truth about this godlike beginner weapon. It is one of the easiest weapons to pick up and succeed with while still having plenty of room to grow with its low skill floor and high skill ceiling. I am so tired of hearing these lies about how hard GS is. It was the first weapon I fell in love with in MHFU after trying them all and I am still a GS loyalist to this very day. It organically teaches you the most important fundamentals of Monster Hunter and action games in general: Observe your target, know what it's capable of, look for openings and exploit those openings. Great video, my dude. 😌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Really glad dual blades has it's aerial attacks back. I've generally been a dual blades/greatsword main, with a bit of Longsword and Chargeblade on the side, but World's overwhelming cast of flying monsters made using dual blades effectively hard without fights lasting forever. I had to rely on greatsword most of World. Now with dual blades having a launch button, we don't have to constantly play on a ledge or circle around a flying monster for ages only to get a few hits in anymore. I used DBs all throughout the story on switch and I don't plan on changing on pc either. Didn't even try out the other weapons lolz.
@kobold_sushi_executive_chef
@kobold_sushi_executive_chef 2 года назад
Dual Blades is my main as well, I remember having to learn longsword in Generations solely because there were certain monsters where I could hit very little besides their feet due to the short range. The Demon Flight move is my favorite aspect of the weapon, being able to get into the air at every opening allows for incredible freedom of movement. It took me so long to realize the move has i-frames, but there's nothing more satisfying to me than launching up the side of a Teostra mid-supernova and not getting hit.
@BlackWinds
@BlackWinds 2 года назад
@@kobold_sushi_executive_chef Yeah I get you. I mean DB have always had that issue to a certain extent but some games it's worse than others. I ended up using Longsword in 4 and Chargeblade in generations the most just to try something different, but I've always had to have greatsword for back up in games where I main DB. Azure rathalos is my favorite monster and especially in the older games, he just doesn't want to land. Now you just just hit that tail and fly up in it's face. It's great. I hope they keep these moveset variations in for future games too. They definitely need to stay.

I've mained the Lance on the Switch and it is so awesome. I started with Anchor Rage because it was so easy to counter hard attackt. But then i've learned how to play with Spiral Thrust, and it is awesome. Once you know the timing how to counter with it you're not useing your shield other way. Sword and shield's blocking in previous games could still be a new player's last resort whereas in recent two games monsters punish blocking unless you build to block attacks so the shield part of S&S has bash uses only to do KO'S, i personally would not recommend it for new players because the sword and shield has evolved and has complexity layers on it. Not to mention it has lower reach which makes it harder to hit a certain part consistently. In which case a LS, HH or even GS could be a good starting weapon for new players in Rise.
@MrJayza89
@MrJayza89 2 года назад
I disagree sword and shield has changed so much over the years it’s not the best option for new players anymore. It’s easy to use some of the core moves sure but a new player will be struggling to kill anything with sns until they learn some of the stronger sns combo’s. Before rise came out the devs even said long sword replaced sns as the starting weapon ( you literally start rise with a long sword equipped ) because the devs now think sns isn’t so beginner friendly anymore. Watch hey jay play through world on his RU-vid channel he played with sns maybe two hunts before switching to switch axe because sns was doing no damage and he found switch axe easier to use funny enough.
@darthplagueis13
@darthplagueis13 2 года назад

I would swap on your top 3 the Sword and Shield with the Hunting Horn. Starting with HH in World and then Iceborne, it has become an incredibly easy weapon to play. The base set of silk bind moves you start with is the best set in my opinion. Plus, the song list has been oversimplified, and you can, almost without trying, maintain 100% up time of your entire song list. Personally, I finally branched out to try other weapons in Rise because of how easy HH turned out to be from my previous experience. It's still very fun to play, and I will continue to main it, but the difficulty barrier is essentially removed.

I'm a glaive main, but for a smooth start that isn't dependent on countering reflexes like the Longsword (which is only braindead if you can parry attacks), Horn is top tier. And at least one is arguably the best option for multiplayer...

After completely neglecting it in World (the only weapon I never even tried), I picked up the Hunting Horn for the first time this week, when I started playing Rise. The last monster I defeated was Barioth - and it is also the only one so far to give me ANY sort of trouble. I haven't done any grinding or crafting, and after one cart (my first in Rise), I beat Barioth on my first attempt. Pretty fun doing all this with the HH!

This is my first MH game and I’ve picked up Hunting Horn - part of the reason I find it an easy starter weapon is that you can literally see your attacks played out at the top of the screen (as each attack is a note) so practicing combos has a nice colourful easy visual element. I’m a clumsy button masher, I find it hard to finesse combos so it’s nice to see if I actually pressed X&A or if I mistimed it and just pressed A and need to dodge and try my combo again.
@eivind261093
@eivind261093 2 года назад
@@smudgerat9624 That sounds like a good idea! Don't forget there's also a separate training area, though, where you can try each weapon against a dummy, and practice the button inputs. Fairly certain your button inputs are displayed on-screen in the training area, regardless of the weapon type! I was finding it kinda tricky to get the sheathe attacks to register correctly on the longsword, but after a few minutes of experimenting in the training room, I felt like I started getting the hang of it :)

Yeh, when I played it the first time I spend a solid two hours wapping around keybinds to get a working solution. It's not too bad, though I believe I'll need to come up with additional stuff if I ever want to play bow or bowguns. The fact that they've decided that you need to hold down the focus camera input in order to scroll through your item bar us utterly stupid to me though, like why the hell would my action bar, which consists of stuff you don't need in combat, be the default scroll, whereas you need an extra input for the item scroll....

I still maintain that S&S is not a beginner friendly weapon, neither is the LBG. LBG will be cart city for new players and ammo management can be a nightmare for new players. Honestly, the best weapon for new players would be something with a massive crutch like Lance/Gunlance for shield crutching. My friends first MH game is rise and he carts every fight with the LBG.

True, and it's kinda OP with how versatile it is: you can litterally build your SnS for any element, Stun, Partbreak, status effect, Affinity, Raw... My current best build is a SnS with 100% affinity, partbreak, and using the shield for multiple stun opportunities, and it's elementless so it works in every hunt. I can dodge or block every attacks in less than a second of reaction time, I can turn around with the spinning slash mid-combo, I can mount often with how often you get aerial moves even WITHOUT the wirebug... It's a VERY good weapon.

You have to love how every video is like nEW PlAyErS ShOulD PiCk ThE LoNgSwoRd when it is one of the hardest weapons to use well. In fact it's probably the weapon with the highest skill ceiling. (I say "probably" just to be nice.) Sure, there is a reason many pros main Longsword. When properly mastered, it kicks ass like no other weapon. But it can take hundreds of hours to not only master the weapon, but also memorize the moster attacks and timing of those attacks. The counterattacks are difficult for a very good reason: they give you perfect defense while also dealing large amounts of damage. So yeah, if you're a new player: do yourself a favor and pick a more forgiving weapon. Experience the monsters in an enviroment where you can reliably block their attacks, instead of banging your head against a wall trying to counter monsters that you have no experience fighting. Once you have experience under your belt, come back and practice the Longsword. It's not a beginners weapon, its a weapon for someone who wants to up their game after they have experience, knowledge, and game-sense to do so.
@darthplagueis13
@darthplagueis13 2 года назад
It's more of a beginners weapon than SnS. With longsword, the difference between a new player and a good player is the difference between having a solid weapon and being an invincible god. With SnS, it's the difference between slapping the monster with a wet noodle and actually having a viable weapon. Longsword has a high skill *ceiling* but compared to some others, the skill *floor* is pretty low, which actually makes it a good beginners weapon. You pick it as a starter and have a whole game to continue improving whilst never having a bad time. Some other weapons just will feel bad or be super confusing if you don't know what you are doing already.
