The scubapro profile 7mm semi-dry or the scubapro 7.5 mm semi dry novascotia are the way forward I dive here in the UK and the waters are 8°c -12°c and both of these will keep you nice and warm

I have a bare velocity 7mm semi dry suit. I have used it on dives in 3°c water for 35-40 minutes with almost no issue. I can not recommend this suit enough for cold waters.

Bro I’m rocking that 100 dollar QuickSilver 1.5 mil in 39 degree water here in jersey. I got great hoods, mittens, and booties so that’s to me the most important.

Another factor to consider is the air temperature. I can dive quite comfortable in a 7 mm in the Great Lakes well into late fall, but once the air temps drop, then I need a dry suit because its just too cold sitting on a dive boat shivering in a wetsuit, even if I still don't need it below the water. I don't dive that much in cold water any more as I'm getting older. Would much rather be down south somewhere in tropical water wearing a 3 mm.

Totally true! I think I speak for the majority of the diving community that we all love to rather be diving in the tropics

Thank you... its amazing how informative a 3 and a half minute video can be!.... I use a 3mm full suit when on holidays (normally South America) but have started diving at home also (Northern Ireland 8 -12 degrees Celsius) Am using a 7.5mm semi dry at the moment but I think I'd rather be a warm pussy than a cold tough guy and I'm going to get a dry suit... Many thanks for the video

I dive a tailwater river below a dam. Stays 45-55 ‘F year round. I use a 7 mm suit

Nice guide. I only dive here in the Philippines so I don't have much experience with different types of exposure protection and the corresponding temperatures they are ideal for. I also appreciate the warm body-cold body distinction, as I have adequate blubber myself

Its interessing to see Hemmoor as an example for cold water. It's like this place is even famous outside of germany ^^.

Not sure about that since we used to live 3 hours from hemmoor 😃

I used a 3.5mm full wetsuit in Fijian waters as warm as 90F. Is that weird? I felt great. Is there a risk of overheating?

Nice review.in Egypt only ever use a shortie,2-3 mm.at home at least a 7mm semi dry,scubapro Nova Scotia well good

Hi John, Thanks for your comment. As we say in our video it's different for everybody. I would never go diving with 2-3 mm shorty in Eqypt. I would be extremely cold! In the video we are giving guidelines for the divers, but you have to discover it for your self too!

What is an over-suit?
@50ftBelow
@50ftBelow 5 лет назад
It is an extra 5mm/7mm shorty which we put on over our 7mm wetsuit. Diving in the Netherlands is colddddd!

Can i use a novascotia 7.5 in summer too? With temperatures in Holland.

guys I live in Maine so our water is between 60 -45 degrees would I be okay with a Hollis Neotek Semi dry and a shortie underneath that I'm hopeful going to be taking my OW course next month and want to be as prepared with gear so I'm comfortable in the water
@50ftBelow
@50ftBelow 4 года назад
That is quite a range and I would rather be in the 60 degrees water but yeah I think you will be fine. It's not worth investing in a dry suit before your certification. Maybe consider a thicker shorty or over suit. Something in the range of 5mm or 7mm. Does this answer your question? Enjoy your course!! You are gonna love it!

I’m looking to buy a suite for spearfishing in winter. In the summer, autumn and spring i use the 5mm but i want to go diving also during winter but i get cold very quickly with the 5mm. I dive in the North Adriatic where temps go down to 10 degrees C. What should i get? Is there much difference in movement underwater with a 7mm suite?
@50ftBelow
@50ftBelow 5 лет назад
What you can try is get a vest with a hood under your 5mm suit. This doesn't affect your movement that much but gives you a lot of heat in return. An example of this is: amzn.to/2RAWQT5

Hmm if only water temps stayed at 65 or higher, here its 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit what thickness do I need?
@50ftBelow

It might worth investing in a dry suit in those temps

you are not gonna be warm with wetsuit. period. Drysuit is the only way to go.
@clarkeysam
@clarkeysam 5 лет назад
In my opinion, there's never a need for a 7mm wetsuit, the buoyancy and flexibility characteristics are so poor that when it's too cold for a 5mm wetsuit you should be wearing a drysuit.
@50ftBelow
@50ftBelow 5 лет назад
Hi Clarkeysam, We are based in the Netherlands and almost every diver here is using a 7MM in the summer. because of the surface temperate it would be to warm for a drysuit but the water is to cold for a 5mm or 3mm. Nowadays you have a lot of good 7mm wetsuits with perfect buoyancy and flexibility characteristics, for a example the Bare Reactive.

@@50ftBelow I'm based in the North East of England (so similar to yourselves), I still don't see the point in 7mm wetsuits.
@50ftBelow
@50ftBelow 5 лет назад
We have heard about the dislike of 7mm of the English :)! It's quitte different from Holland because here almost everybody starts out diving with a 7mm wetsuit. That explains why fourth element stopt producing 7mm wetsuits!

I wore 11mm of wetsuits, no problema with buoyancy or movement. :) Just gotta get the right sizes and amount of weights to stay neutral. ^.^
