I remember eating square meals when in Warrant Officer Candidate School. one of the TAC observed that I was alone and started laughing. I started laughing and almost spit out my food.
yes, during my career had met exactly THREE of these citadel graduates. the first one was so ATE UP he did not know which end of the barrel the bullit would exist from. the second was just as ATE UP by yelling at the enlisted solders all of the time, the third and LAST was the first infantry battalion commander i served with as a field artillery officer. "Colonel McFerrin" was probably the most SQUARED AWAY OFFICER i had ever met along with her sergeant major nouri. EXCELLENT soldiers!
umm..no, they ARE knobs. The Brit used the word "junior" to denote lesser in status as opposed to class year. Look at the collar. The 4 is a dead giveaway.
Chill on the comments.. it may not be by the book principled leaders but its the way we do things down south. I wish the school had been more like this however... it hasnt changed all that much as far as mess is concerned.. but it was changing fast while I was there.. so.. idk... hope it will go back to something like this one day.. maybe some hardcore brute southerners will take over again some day...
I like how the mess carver is completely unapologetic regarding the "square meal" and bracing. He even jokes about it. I f I remember correctly, we were never asked to square our meals as punishment, that was the way we ate for the entire year (except for Thanksgiving, which was a relaxed mess). Knobs also served all of the upperclass drinks via a cleared path in the center of the table, where the drinks would slide toward the middle where the knobs sat, get refilled, and be slid back very carefully. We were served last, and many meals had a giant heap of soupy, overcooked collard greens covering our plate because none of the upperclassmen wanted them, and they would be split amongst the two or three knobs at the mess. Mess facts were a daily research project and could be anything from a joke to trivia questions about charlies angels or the blues brothers. By the way that is the old Coward Hall which was behind third battalion, my class was the last knob class to eat there in 1990-1991. I believe that the old coward hall is the final resting place of the fourth class system.
kmhst31 no, we still eat in coward hall. The 4th class system is still there. It still is unpleasant. I love hearing about “the last real class.” I think that started with the class of 1846 if I remember right.
I ate in ate in the old Coward Hall as a pre knob. Seems like I remember the seats being perfectly square and jammed together. I was a knob 91-92 and we had the “luxury” of the current mess hall. Great video.
Ring is presented SENIOR year. They are knobs. They were allowed to grow their hair out after their initial buzz cut. Remember this is in 1977. Additionally, the Bluebook authorizes the wear of rings. It may very well be a highschool ring. It would be a violation of the honor code to deceive someone like you are claiming they did.
umm...no, I am familiar with the 4 class system. Look at their hair....Look at the ring on the "knob's" finger... Last time I checked you don't get your ring till junior year
