its why i love your channel, you always bring up a topic that makes me reflect on the process. Ive also taught about this for a while, but when i asked this question on reddit everyone just brushed it off like i was crazy lol. lately its been really difficult to draw without listening to a youtube video of some sorts (im addicted to video game lets plays), i think because i struggle with loneliness or too afraid to be with my own emotions and thoughts. its sounds silly when i write it, whats so scary about just drawing lol.i wonder if this impedes my learning since my brain is more engaged than say instrumental music or ambient sounds, or maybe my brain doest take it as seriously so my progress is slowed down.
Someone told me recently that we work better in a noisy Starbucks-like environment because it keeps a certain part of our brain occupied so that the creative part of our brain, which works in our subconscious often and it whispers, can do its thing. I don't know if that's true, but I find I work better with some RU-vid video or podcast in the background also when I'm drawing, say from reference. There is a small group of artist that draws while chatting away on Zoom, and that worked really well also, as they were entertaining to listen to. We also doodle when in meetings. Processing that chatter in the background perhaps pre-occupies a certain part of the brain so that our creative side can have some fun. I think it's very important to notice things around your process!
