As a newly diagnosed early onset dementia patient, I'm so happy to have found this video. I've searched for a support group and have only found ones for caregivers. I need input and advice from the people who are living with it and in the same stage as me. We all do.

I remember when 57 seemed ancient. Now at 49 it seems so young.

I am watching this is 6-2022. My mother had this. She had 5 kids and she lived with us all at various stages for almost 6 years until at age 56 she "rebelled" and left our homes to live in a tent at the lake. We could not stop her because it was her "right" to live as she saw fit. She had been an alcoholic in her younger years but had been sober for over 17yrs until then. She began to drink and 1 night she nearly killed a man in her diminished capacity and at 56 was placed in a nursing facility. We had family who worked there so we watched her closely but in her lucid moments it was horrible because she had no friends there really and knew she was too young. Also, we had to address several medical issues such as mammograms because she was still so young. The disease progressed and at 71 she passed after shattering her hip in a fall out of bed. We had really lost her years before. God blessed us at the last day that she knew us and was able to say goodbye. I remember it all so vividly. The decision to place her and mostly the decision to not resuscitate and let her go. It was so very hard but also such a blessing that we had gotten to have that moment with her. My prayers go out to any family dealing with such horrible diseases no matter what they are but especially for the most cruel. The ones that rob them of their minds or trap them inside a body that can longer act under their control. She was ready and would have hated to have lived in that state if she had had a choice. Cherish every moment. We only are gifted with 1 set of parents. Love them. Call them more. They think of you every day. God bless you all.

My son helped me with my husband,his Dad in his last 2 years. We lost him a few months ago. He had Alzheimer's And Luey Body yet 3 days before he died he was clear as a bell. You made me smile 😊 God bless.

My father passed away on February 15th 2016 of Dementia, my mother passed away this January 25th of Dementia. I was so fortunate, they passed before the worst part, it was a blessing. It was extremely sad to watch the baffled look on their faces, at that point when they understood there was something very wrong with them. I call it the walking death, because that is what happens, it is so cruel. As their care taker I was constantly blind sided, as things could change from one moment to the next!! I consider myself lucky to have taken care of them, I can live with the fact that I did the best I could for them!!

This is great! My grandmother also developed early onset dementia, now considered frontotemporal dementia. It happened so fast and it hit the family so hard that none of us had a moment to think. 5 years later, she sits here at home with the treatment of a queen thanks to her wonderful husband, 2 kids, and myself. It hasn't been easy, in fact, I'd say it's been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm 24 years old and my life is on hold for my family, and I wouldn't have it any other way. My suggestion to anyone who cares, cannabis has done amazing things for some people, it needs more recognition worldwide. Thank you for sharing this story!

I'm going through this same thing right now. I left my job two years ago when my Father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My Mother is also disabled - she suffered a brain injury after a hit and run. My Father used to take care of everything for her and now he can't because of his Alzheimer's. I am an only child, so it's up to me to take care of them. I have a family of my own as well, a husband and two sons. It can be really hard some days. Having to see my Father slipping away day after day is really hard and completely heartbreaking. Thanks for the video... it helps to see other people going through what you are going through.

Our parents brought us into this world and did everything possible to keep us safe..happy..healthy.. Its wonderful to see children take care of them later on in life. I love my parents and I would do the same ❤️

Poor lady. My grandad died because of Alzheimer's, and my auntie (grandads daughter) was diagnosed with Alzheimer's aged about 56. Honestly, it scares me shitless.

My mum doesn't have Alzheimer, but her brain is not what is used to be. I call her every two days to see what is going on. If time comes I will take care of her, just like she took care of me

What a wonderful caring man - the way he treats his mother by letting her have her say and encouraging her to do what she wants - he is giving her the best care and attention. I have worked 18 yrs in care for the elderly and have come across so many people who's sons and daughters just don't have the time for them. So many people just don't accept that their parent have problems and sweep it under the carpet. I hope that Adam and his mum have many more years in their quest to cope with her dementia.

It's 2023 and I'm wondering where the two of you are on this journey now. My father has Alzheimers and my mom and I are his full time caregivers. Thank you for sharing this.

This story should be shown to all Alzheimer caregivers, patients (who want to see it), all medical students, and all medical providers (especially Palliative Care, Geriatrics, Neurology, Family Medicine, Psychology, and any other specialities who care for memory loss and dementia patients). I am so proud of Adam's maturity and how he has altered his lifestyle, developed a keen knowledge and understanding of dementia from a layperson perspective, and devoted his life at this time to caring for and spending time with his mom. He will cherish these memories for a lifetime and seeing Sue's smiles with him in the obstacle course, when Adam tells jokes, when she volunteers, and when she is in Europe lights up my heart and soul with love, happiness, and excitement. This film reminds me of my experience caring for my mom before her death from Stage 4 colorectal cancer. She also lost her memory and had some types of memory loss during her last months, so I do understand an iota of what Adam and Sue go through together. There is nothing I cherish more than my decision to care for my mom, and spend as much time as possible with her, after her diagnosis. The trips to hospital where I drove her, the conversations where I cried and she comforted me; she cried and I comforted her; and we comforted eachother discussing life and the future and how we would miss eachother were the best of my life. She was also named Sue. I am so happy Adam made it happen and made Sue's dream of travel come true. Adam, if you read this, I am so proud of you. I wish my mom lived longer so instead of being 21-24, I was older and more established during her diagnosis. I would have loved to have her live with me! I am a bit jealous. And the opportunity to do that travel - amazing. You are empathetic, wise, caring, thoughtful, and put others before yourself 100% Adam. We could all learn from you. You are doing an A+ job as a caregiver, child, and friend. You ARE giving your mom a full life by giving tour mom experiences, getting her off the sofa, getting her volunteering in the community, and making her laugh. If she does have to go into a care home, you can still do that. There are also some memory loss communities and day programs in the US; see what your mom is qualified for as you research online for options in NZ. This is the best story I have watched on RU-vid in 2020. Best wishes to Adam, his son, his girlfriend and most of all Sue. My momm is in the later stages of dementia. She’s elderly but physically she’s pretty darn good. I privately cry an ocean of tears everyday. I’ve given up friends, outing, my job- it’s a lot but I love her so much and I can’t bear of strangers taking care of her. No one can care for her like me and my brother is a huuuuge help. Just because I’m home 24/7 wirh her and yes it is very hard to give up any social life but nothing compares the the loving mother she was to us and therefore nothing can convince me to put her in a home. She wouldn’t have left my brother and I if we were sick and here in her little home she will stay. She will stay in her house til the day she goes to heaven. I know how you all feel watching your loved ones suffer through this all I can say is remember the beautiful person they were and that helps carry you though the hard days 🙏😥💜😌

i was a companion care aid i loved my job but when my grandma got dementia it was different like a pice of my heart slowly dieing as she got sicker it stole who she was leaving an emptiness i still get sad about i always tell people see the person not the illness a part of them is still there love them give kindness

I wonder how much forgetfulness is stress induced with anxiety and the belief of failure. I've been living with anxiety and depression for all of my adult life, I've been taking meds since I was 19, and when I go through hard spikes I can't remember any incoming information. It's just a hard focus on the physical ailment du jour. My wife just reminded me yesterday that she'll be out of town for her mother's birthday this weekend. She claims she told me twice this week, but my mind was focused on work that's approaching due dates, and I don't remember what I ate for lunch yesterday. Stress plays a huge role for sure.

Wow! Now that I'm in this situation, with my Dad, I can totally appreciate this. Although my Mom is his primary caregiver, I want to be accessible to her to give her breaks to do things alone. I see the frustration and challenges that Mom goes thru. I can't imagine being the only caregiver. This is amazing! ❤

Awesome son, can we have an update? USA here, My mom died on August 21, 2020 from Vascular dementia. She was diagnosed at 65 and died at 72.

This incredible woman raised a most amazing son.

My grandma, when asked, was completely against my uncle - her son - taking care of her like that. Once it gets to washing, cleaning certain parts properly, changing them daily, watching them deterioriate, etc. is when the real courage comes in.

I have vascular dementia and I use images instead of words, I cannot remember the words but I still know what an object is or what it does and I know what I want to do.
