This entire concert is special. Many of Georges family and friends paying tribute. For me the most special moment is the very end, when everyone is up on the stage, and the lovely Joe Brown (a great friend of George) plays his tiny ukulele and sings "I'll See You In My Dreams" . I just watched it before writing this, and as always - weeping - it's so beautiful.💔
@@tammieparrishmiller3669 Years ago, I rented the DVD of this concert from the library. I had forgotten how good is is until Biz's reaction. I am guessing that YT must have the entire concert available. I'm going to check later. The finale is gut wrenching, I cried as always (I'm kind of a sentimental sap). Most people in the US don't know Joe Brown, but he is an old rock and roll icon in Britain, and the patriarch of a large extended family of talented musicians I won't get into now - don't want to sound like wiki 😜
@@cindyfalstrom7231 I wish you and I could sit together and just listen to some amazing music! I too am a sentimental sap! I love to sometimes put something on that I know is gonna give me that good cry. Sometimes it's healing. Other times it's just gotten me through the ups and the downs of life. I absolutely love to get in my car and just drive and sing my heart out! I sound great with the windows up! Haha! I love your sense of humor! I think we should be the icky-wiki-sisters! I might be delerious, I have a fever of 101.5. Waiting for my pharmacy to tell me they have my antibiotics ready. I love our chats! You mentioned Joe Brown and I am one of those who hasn't heard of him, but I will say that's where most of our best music came from and there's no denying that. Can you give me a jump start with a few songs from him? I'd certainly appreciate it! Oh, I've gotta turn you onto an album from a man named Malan Darras. He put this album on RU-vid for free and it is so beautiful! It's called Cowboy in the Sunshine and girl there's a couple of songs on there that will make you cry your eyes out! It's as if it came straight out of the '70s! Please give it a listen and let me know what you think. Peace my icky wicky sister!😆🤣🤡
@@tammieparrishmiller3669 Yes, I do believe we may indeed by soul sisters. Icki-wiki sisters - LOL, I like that. You have my respect for making it through one of my long rock history dissertations. I do tend to have a hard time editing myself. I LOVE studying the characters that made up this wonderfully interesting era of music culture. Joe Brown was an early rock&roll, folk/ east end cockney singer/guitarist, actor, and comedian. He is beloved in England for contributing more than50 yrs of entertainment on the radio and early TV in the 50's & 60'S. I'm sorry to say that I cannot help much recommending his songs as I never listened to his style of folk/rock. What I know of Joe, i have learned from reading about the life of my favorite character Steve Marriott who was very close to Joe and also another English rock pioneer - Alexis Korner. Joe's life and family are intertwined with Steve's for many years. Joe was one of Steve's best friends, Joe's wife Vicki& daughter Sam sang backup for some of Small Faces & early HP songs. Sam Brown had an amazingly powerful voice -you might have seen her singing backup on Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky & on other songs - she was the long blond haired singer between the two beautiful black singers. Sadly she damaged her vocal chords, so doesn't sing much anymore. In 1991, Vicki Brown died of cancer & Steve died in a house fire. At Steve's funeral, Joe reconnected with Steve's former partner Manon, mother of Steve's daughter, Mollie, and they ended up marrying later with George Harrison acting as best man. Mollie was just 6 when Steve died, so Joe ended up mostly raising her and she says that Dahni Harrison was a good friend so Mollie spent much time in her childhood in harrison's mansion. Mollie is now an excellent singer o her own ( I'll post a link below). So you can see how they are all connected. Thus ends the longwinded answer to your short request about Joe Brown !!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Bp1TAipmqY.html "Shame, shame shame" Mollie Marriott Hope to talk again soon 😊
Thanks for your reaction! The young kid playing guitar with them is George Harrison's son, Dhani. Dhani Harrison was also in the tribute video that you mentioned with Prince shredding the guitar.
This was a concert filled with joy and sorrow. The biggest and best in the business came out to honor George's memory with this memorial show. On the Beatles version of the song from the White Album, yes, it is Eric Clapton who plays the solo midway through the song, as he does here. I'm sure there are replies below letting you know that the young man on stage with all these giants is none other than George's son, Dhani. I know you mentioned Paul on keyboards, but don't forget Ringo was there too. God bless your memory, George Harrison.
I also spotted Tom Petty and Albert (not Alvin) Lee, another old icon on guitar, standing behind Paul. I'm sure there are others in the crowd too. What a great concert!
@@chuckhutton5087 For sure, Chuck. Jeff always wore his Beatles influence right there on his sleeve. Another good friend at the concert, though lesser known, was musician Joe Brown. George had been the best man at Brown's wedding in 2000. Joe performed "Here Come the Sun", "I'll See You in My Dreams", and "That's the Way it Goes" at the concert.
@@cindyfalstrom7231 Yes, no doubt a big memorial concert like that must have attracted a lot of musical stars who were there as audience members only. I don't think any of the other Beatles were a beloved by their peers as George. Oh, and yes, I'm aware of the legendary Albert Lee being there. I got to see Alvin Lee when he played lead guitar for the Everly Brothers when their 1984 reunion tour came to New York.
Dhani Harrison looks so much like his father that Eric Clapton joked that it looked like everyone there had aged and George stayed young. This was a memorial concert at the Albert Hall after George died.
Yes, definitely check out the studio version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" off of the Beatles "White Album". it would actually be cool if you reacted to the entire album. And yes, the song was written and sung by George (and recorded by the Beatles), and Eric Clapton was invited to play the lead guitar on the original track. Peace
George Harrison wrote the song. It was originally released by the Beatles. This is a tribute concert to George after his death. They are performing songs that George wrote solo and when he was with the Beatles. I believe that Eric Clapton did play on the original (Beatles) song. I heard or read somewhere that Lennon/McCartney weren't sold on this song until George asked his friend,, Eric Clapton, to contribute. When they heard it with Eric's contribution, While My Guitar Gently Weeps was included on their 'White Album'. I think it ended up being the best song on the album.
Dhani was 24 during this. Can you imagine being 24 years old and playing on stage with rock LEGENDS that revolutionized music that are paying their tributes to his father that is part of the group that started it all. 🤯
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 The young man playing the acoustic guitar is the son of GEORGE HARRISON If you really like Eric Clapton May I suggest another great song by him Song is 🎵 River of Tears 🎵 You're gonna love this one, too Keep the good work Biz 👏 ✌️ 👍🏻🙏
All of the originals musicians on the original recorded version are on this stage with the exception of George Harrison but his son Dani was on stage...in addition to a bunch of other musician fans and friends of George. Best version ever!
One of my favorite songs by The Beatles! I originally saw the full Concert for George with my dad. My favorite shot during this song is when they show all the drummers in complete sync! Gives me chills every time!
That was great. Another great song in the Concert for George is "My Sweet Lord" with the late great Billy Preston on keys and vocals. He played on a lot of the Beatles' hits and was part of the Rooftop Concert
@ MIKE WARKER. THANK YOU, FINALLY someone ELSE also thinks that THIS is MUCH BETTER than the PRINCE version. Everyone raves about it, and I felt he just started showing off and taking the spotlight away from George's Induction as a solo artist in the ROCK HALL. I MUCH prefer ERIC, because he was the one that played the guitar on the original Beatles' track and in this performance kept it more true to the original....no one is trying to "show off" in the entire "CONCERT FOR GEORGE."
@@patticrichton1135 “show off” was emphasized a few times. So because he got into it he was showing off? Some people, prince for example felt when you do tributes as opposed to just playing the original you make it your own in some way as sign of respect. It’s fine to prefer one over the other but to keep emphasizing someone who was acting as they normally did as showing off is very interesting. I hear the undertone. It’s fine though. It could also be emotions because that night he himself was also inducted but hey he was just showing off.
I enjoyed both I never even thought to compare them until I saw your comment honestly but I guess for me it would be what I’m in the mood for. They are very different.
The story with this song is that the Beatles weren't getting along too well while working on it. So George Harrison, who wrote it, decided to invite his good friend Eric to play lead guitar on it. George knew they would then all be on their best behavior, which they were. In turn, George played lead on the Cream song Badge, which is definitely worth checking out as well.
Memorial concert for George Harrison, who sadly passed away in 2001. That's George's son, Dhani, in the white shirt playing the acoustic guitar. Ringo on drums. Jeff Lynne from ELO. And there's Jim Capaldi from Traffic. Also playing at this show were Steve Winwood, Tom Petty and Prince. So many great musicians and friends of George at this concert.
Some incorrections MARY MOORE.....Steve Winwood and Prince DID NOT play at this "CONCERT FOR GEORGE" on NOV. 29, 2002 exactly one year after George died. All the performers here were friends of George's and/or had worked with him at one time. Neither Steve Winwood or Prince had ever worked with George or were personal friends of his. You may be thinking of the performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the ROCK HALL'S induction of GEROGE HARRISON as a SOLO artist.
@@patticrichton1135 Calm down. It said on the description "concert for george" and showed prince and others. That's all I know. I've seen the video many times.
That’s George’s son Dani Harrison .🔥Eric and George gots history he started messing around with Eric’s wife and eventually ended up with her but George has an awesome soul and stayed friends until the end. Many blessings to you and yours my friend.👏🏼🙏🏼
You’ve got the story backwards. Eric Clapton was crazy about George’s wife, Pattie and pursued her for years. Yes. They remained friends and Pattie says today that George was the real love of her life. I don’t understand how an incorrect comment gets 14 likes. Do people really I not know the actual story or do they just hit ‘like’ without thinking?
A great Harrison song,. A Very great group of some of the best singers, song writers and composer paying homage to George's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" including Georges son with guitar center stage.
I’ve got this whole concert on DVD. It’s great from start to finish. As to your question, the Beatles songs were mostly written by Paul, George and John. So this is a Beatles song AND a George song 😉 It’s one he wrote that they played. Two people playing at this show(at least two) played on recorded Beatles songs, too. Billy Preston plays keys on the original for Get Back. He may have been with them for some live performances too. And, this song. Clapton played the guitar solo on the original Beatles version of this.
Eric is one of the best blues guitarist and he has great vocals as well To me Eric plays the traditional blues better than any modern guitarist Love his album he did as a tribute to Muddy Waters
You should definitely do the original version- this song is beautiful both lyrically and musically. George Harrison is an astonishingly good writer. one of the most powerful things on the original version is GH's voice which is crying for humanity. The song is much covered - loved by guitarists for obvious reasons - i also like the version with George Harrison and Gary Moore and also Eric Clapton live with Peter Frampton. Another interesting aspect of the concert for George is the Indian musicians that take part. GH loved that music and pioneered introducing Sitar into sixties British music ( along with the Rolling Stones) - that sound became synonymous with GH. All love to the Beatles, my musical journey began with them-the white album is groundbreaking- impossible to overstate the contribution they made.
This was a great concert held exactly one year to the day of George's death. A stage full of legendary performer's. This has been on PBS many times. You need to check this concert out. Legendary ! Peace ❤
You are quite right... George Harrison was friends with Eric Clapton... and who The Beatles were recording this song George didn't think he was doing it justice... and remember this is Georges own Song...!!.. anyway, he asked Eric to come and play the solo.. In 1968... That's one of the resons this is so special... You asked who the young guy in the white playing the acoustic guitar was... Well that was Georges son..!! Dahni. And in amongst the 4 drummers they had on stage you probably missed that Ringo was one of them.. He's the one in the red leather jacket behind Eric.. and they pan up to hin from time to time... Keep on rocking.
Eric Clapton actually was the lead guitarist on the original song from The Beatles. George wrote the song, but when the band was recording it, John and Paul were constantly bickering with each other, and George was unable to come up with a usable riff. He was a magnificent guitarist, one of the original Guitar Gods, but he was never good at improvisation, but very good at taking instructions, and neither of his mates were helping the process. So, he took a quick break and went to his best buddy's home and asked him to play the solo. Both John and Paul liked and respected Clapton, and George knew the two would be on their best behavior with Clapton in the studio. It worked and a classic song was produced. True story.
That is George’s son , that looks just like him. This is one year after he died, his friend Eric, wanted to honer him, by putting on a concert singing his songs.
I see you didn't recognize RINGO STARR (of the Beatles) on drums, he was playing on the kit that was elevated, and he is wearing a burgundy embroidered jacket. When you asked "who's that" THAT is George's only child, his son DHANI. He LOOKS EXACTLY like his dad when George was a young Beatle. In Fact towards the end, Paul said it looked like we all got old and George stayed the same, or somthing to that effect (can't remember the exact. You SHOULD REACT to "SOMETHING" from this SAME concert. PAUL McCARTNEY starts singing it just playing a ukulele (George LOVED playing ukuleles and gave that one to Paul) and then it goes into the full band version. It's beautiful
RINGO✨️STAR WAS ON THE DRUMS TO👺the Boy is GORGE HARISON SON AND PAUL , ERIC CLAPTON ALMOST JOIN THE BEATLES BUT HE TURNED DOWN THE OFFER🤓check out AC⚡️DC music video 💣BIG GUN💥🧢🎸⚡️🎸⚡️🎵
SO EASY to miss the great mr. billy preston on organ, amongst all of the other greats. but take note he is jamming out on this as well.... :) GREAT CHOICE BIZ!!!!
Fun fact! George Harrison's son didn't think he belonged on stage with these players. Clapton demanded him to be on stage telling him that he did belong!
There’s a version of this done by a guitarist named Vinnie Moore. I do believe George Harrison played on the track as well. Personally I think it’s one of the best I’ve ever heard.🍻
This whole concert rocks! Try listening to Isn't It A Pity with Billy Preston ("the 5th Beatle). Also, GH pioneered these kinds of all star concerts for a cause. Check out "Concert for Bangladesh" ✌️🌎💚
Hi my friend! Could you please react to another tribute song starting EC? It's Dont think twice, it's alright, in the 30th anniversary concert tribute to Bob Dylan. Thank you❤
You should see the live version with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne singing lead vocals, Dhani Harrison (George’s son) on acoustic guitar, and Prince doing the guitar solo at the end. It’s INSANELY good! This is it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dWRCooFKk3c.html
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I'M LISTENING TO ( CLAPTON ) OVER PRINCE ANY DAY OF THE WEEK AND TWICE ON SUNDAYS! 😊 PRINCE DID GO OFF THOUGH INCLUDING CHUCKING HIS GUITAR AT THE END!😊
A number of George Harrison's songs that he wrote for submission to Beatles albums and rejected for their albums and singles, were later included in his solo albums.
He already saw it, I prefer THIS version from the Concert for George with the lead guitar being played BY ERIC CLAPTON who ALSO PLAYED it on the ORIGINAL BEATLES' track for "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and stayed more TRUE to the original, no "showing off" as Prince did. Besides, everyone that performed at The Concert for George, were either friends of George, or all bandmates with George through his life. Prince was never a friend or ever played with George.
This version is far better. No over-the-top, inappropriate pyrotechnics, just sweet, respectful guitar homage to George and fabulous drum syncopation. Prince makes it all about himself, tossing his guitar into the crowd. Piss off, ya little troll.
Tom Petty DID play in this "Concert for George" he was not onstage for this one. Some of the artists were not always on stage for every song, But if you watch the ENTIRE concert you will see Tom Petty perform.
