I learned a lot about Maryland the first weekend of the Maryland Renaissance Festival, 2022. By the way, you can find my schedule over at Jackthewhipper.com #OldBay #renfest #renfaire #maryland #jacqueszewhipper
Annapolis got a semi-pro soccer team this year. They modified the "olé... olé, olé, olé" soccer chant to "Old Bay... Old Bay, Old Bay, Old Bay". Marylanders are a loyal bunch.
I think I saw in another video (where he discussed a DnD character sheet) that it was indeed and he asked for no more. That Old Bay will go far with knuckle head trout in Icewindale
Maryland is not just a state; it's a cult. Marylanders will joke about huffing Old Bay. Kidding aside, it is a decent seasoning blend. Paprika, cumin, celery salt, onion, garlic, peppercorn. It's savory and a little smokey.
I've never seen a man go from being absolutely reviled by Marylanders to adored by Marylanders in such a short span of time. And yes, as somebody from Washington DC, Old Bay is huge around here. The seafood markets that used to float on the water would sell Old Bay right next to the crabs. I've seen it on burgers, fries, heck, even kettle corn in the Amish markets. Kudos for finding ways to incorporate a heckle into the show so smoothly.
My favorite part is there were 5 different people at that show in particular who just HAPPENED to be carrying that shit on them. I do the same thing with my food recipes, I share them with EVERYONE and keep a tiny little notebook with all my food secrets at all times for the specific purpose of sharing at any given moment
Hope you had fun while you were here! I've lived in Maryland for the last 20 years and yes we love our Old Bay and it is put on really anything edible.
Hi show was so packed at the MD Ren Fair this year, that I could get close enough to see if he received more. They need to give him a bigger stage. I wonder if he likes OldBay? We have a huge box of it at our house…we eat it on everything almost.
one of us, one of us its the best, seafood, chicken, fries, pork chops, added to flour for deep fried anything, ive never put it on beef but im not adverse to the idea... ive even added it to some cheesy biscuits i made once, maryland born and raised here and i promise you wont be disappointed.
Hope you like it! It’s got a good kick to it. Traditionally we have it absolutely caked onto beer-steamed blue crabs. Sets your mouth and lips on fire but it’s soooooo good.
It's actually pretty good on non seafood dishes as well. Try it on pork or chicken. Yum. Also, if you've never had it, get the lower sodium unless you're yard to high salt content.
@@Manbearpig444can’t make Old Bay from scratch!!!! Ratios are a trade secret. Most Marylanders would be incensed if they were promised old bay and got some homemade bootleg! Definitely try some if you get the chance.
Man, bummed I missed out on renfest this year. Maryland renfest is just the best ever. There’s a whole forest dedicated to it, filled with wooden stages and cabins with shops. All the signage is hand painted. Such a colorful place and it’s genuinely the only huge community event I enjoy, save maybe the state fair. Glad Jacques got a not-so-proverbial taste of Maryland. There’s a reason we’re so nutty about Old Bay!!!!! It’s perfect on everything. If you can eat it, it would probably benefit from some Old Bay. The Old Bay Twitter account once even tweeted a recipe for Old Bay hot chocolate, to an almost surprisingly positive reception. Personally I associate the taste of it too much with seafood to enjoy it on chicken though.
Hahahaaa… I wish I was there xDD This made me Laugh! And bruh, you’re almost at a million subscribers??! Damn. I still remembered your NJ Renn Faire shows and secret show, it was Fun! Keep doing awesome performances and hope to see you again in the future! ^^
I love Old Bay seasoning.....and I live in Rhode Island!!!! We in RI have Old Bay seasoning here too. Have fun here in Rhode Island when you arrive for the King Richard's Faire.❤❤❤❤
@@ferretyluv I just love using Old Bay seasoning. Over the summer,I made a clam boil on two different occasions...and added Old Bay. Just love how it came out.
@@dawnlord4893 Well yeah! It’s perfect for all seafood. Literally every kind of seafood dish you can think of can be improved with old bay. Something about paprika, pepper, and salt is just magic when it comes to seafood, like how pineapple and soy sauce creates magic teriyaki sauce.
As a Marylander obsessed with old bay and crabs who just saw Jacques today at the maryland rennfest, I absolutely side with everyone chanting old bay lol
That is the most New England thing I think I've ever seen on RU-vid. 😂😂😂 I've never been there, but I know Maryland and the whole coastal region in that area loves their seafood. Lol
Where I'm from, My wife and I have never heard of Old Bay. I looked it up. It's a Baltimore, Maryland thing. In my household, we're more use to Asian, South East Asian, Indian, and Puerto Rican/Caribbean seasonings. Especially Goya and Adobo.
Sounds like you would like Old Bay. Its a bit savory and pretty damn spicy by American standards. In my opinion it’s a seasoning best used on its own. I hear folks compare it to Cajun seasoning, and it’s definitely similar, but it has its own distinct taste. You can put it on everything from potato chips to salad but it’s definitely best on seafood. Back in the day it was pretty common in Maryland to have big crab feasts in the summer, with bushels of steamed blue crabs totally caked in Old Bay. Unfortunately crabs have gotten a bit too expensive for most people to have feasts, but it’s still delicious with shrimp or any other shellfish. One of my favorite ways to have it is in cream of crab soup, since you can use any pasteurized crab meat.
I lived in Maryland for 13 years, and I would have also booed you for not knowing about Old Bay. (I bought it in bulk for when I moved to Pittsburgh. It's not in any of the grocery stores here! 😖)
Jacques Ze Whipper, I live in San Jose, California, I don’t eat, bottom feeders, but I love Old Bay Seasoning, and I have several cans to season my food particularly beef‼️✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼🤣🤣🤣
I like how FIVE different people brought old Bay seasoning to the faire JUST so they could give it to him. Like "I can't let you can't leave not knowing what Old Bay is!"
lol when they started chanting "OLD BAY! OLD BAY" it sounded like '"ALL DAY! ALL DAY!" I'm Australian and we're a bit kooky about chicken salt too - that's seasoning for rotisserie chicken, not salt that's flavoured like chicken - it's great on chips or potato cakes (scallops - sliced of potato in batter - AND FRIED!)
I haven’t been to the Maryland Faire in years. Jacques looks very entertaining and I’m sorry I am missing his performances. But I have to say I miss seeing the troope Shakespeare’s Bloody Best. Their version of Hamlet (Die Gertie Die!) had all of splitting our sides with laughter.
I have NO JOKE seen OLD BAY BEER on a storefront in Baltimore. Also I am a Marylander and my uncle has said the Only thing that's keeping me in the family despite not liking most sea food is that I enjoy Crab cakes but I think were fun down here in Maryland.
Now ya gotta go eat some Crabs 🦀. Enjoy. Wish I was there. I miss renn fest. Hey it’s also really good in scrambled eggs and don’t forget to season your French fries. Welcome to Maryland. Looks like you got a great sized crowd. ❤❤❤ just a note are you sure they were saying boo not Lou??? 😂😂😂
I'm surprised they let you out of there alive after admitting you didn't know what Old Bay was. Now you need to get a bushel of steamed Maryland Blue Crab and see what all the fuss is about!
I was wondering why the area was so packed that first weekend. Black friar's stage, close to St. George's chapel and the boardwalk of the Maryland Renaissance Festival. I work the trash of that zone so it caught me off guard that it was so packed over there
Yeah, I'm somehow not surprised. Lived here since I was around 2, and we're all somewhat obsessed with Old Bay. Why? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh... if I were to guess, the two reasons I'd come up with are: 1. It's kinda nice. You should try it. 2. Regional pride; Maryland is "the crab state" and I believe a common nickname for Marylanders used to be "crab-men" or something akin to that (I've probably got it way wrong, so don't quote me), so it kind of follows that a seasoning designed for crab would do well in such a place. Then we have.. "innovative" people who try it on other stuff and realize it goes good on a LOT of different foods. I dunno though. This is just me guessing. Hope the show was good for Mr. Ze Whipper, and I do hope the people here treated him well, though. Though if this was at the BIG Ren fair, most of the people there are super cool. (Can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. It's probably because of all the Old Bay.)
I didn't know if you knew this or not, but there is a Ren fair that happens in Kansas City that's fairly large and is next month around October through the whole month idk if it happens ever October or if it's different times but it's a fairly large veniew it seems would be cool to see you there sometime in the future
Jacques I don’t know if you’ll see this but the renn faire just started in Lebanon ct. I’m not sure how far out of your jurisdiction that is but if one day you do your act there I’ll absolutely show up with a killer request. Keep on whipping bro 👍
MD renfest has crab pretzels and crab dip, which have Old Bay as a staple! They’re pretty alright if you don’t mind the plasticky orange cheese on top.
