In this video, I diagnose and fix a F8E4 code on my newly installed Whirlpool Dishwasher. A little bit of water was leaking from my inlet connection into the drip tray. Easy fix!

We just moved into a new home only to find the dishwasher would not work. It had the exact error codes you described, F8 and E4.The builder refused to fix it and a Whirlpool tech on the phone did not know how to fix the problem and said a repair technician would not be available for 2 weeks. We have been hand washing dishes for the past 10 days, but then my wife found your awesome video on RU-vid that perfectly addressed the problem and how to fix it. I found that the idiot who installed the dishwasher failed to tighten the hose connector and it leaked water into the drip pan, exactly as shown in your video. Thanks to you, I was able to fix my dishwasher by tightening the hose connector and drying the drip pan. Thank you SO much! Kudos to you and your expertise.

Great Info... I will say the easiest way to install and uninstall is to slide the tray out as far as you can and then remove the float switch by pinching the TABS then sliding it out then unplugging the float switch. and reverse it to reinstall. plug in the float switch then position the tray and snap the float in and slide it all back into place... fighting to remove it the first time was a PITA...

Thank you for explaining why my drip tray was preventing the re-installation of the bottom access panel. I was replacing a 10+ year old Whirlpool dishwasher, but their adding of the drip tray and the plastic access panel changed significantly. I regret not paying more attention when asked to remove these pieces, but your video clarified, where even Whirlpool's instructions failed.

i bought this dish washer a year ago, and just installed it in our house. its brand new never opened.. it threw an error code then started working, however it doesnt clean the dishes. I am so frustrated and it is out of warranty even though its new.

Sorry my friend, I wish I could help you more. I’d double check the water inlet fitting, then see that your water level isn’t getting too high during cycles. FYI, there is a strainer basket AND washable filter at the bottom of the dishwasher. If those get clogged, maybe that level is overflowing the pan?? Just a thought. Good luck!

Got this code and followed your video to find the water in the tray. Don’t see any leak though. The dishwasher hasn’t had any codes for the first year it’s been installed though. Aside from install issues / leaks what any other ideas on what can cause water to pool in the tray?
@NashwaukSteve
@NashwaukSteve 8 месяцев назад
Hello- I’ve never had any other issues than that leak in the video. I can’t say any problems from experience, but any leak from the door, possibly caused by high water might do it. Hi Janis- UGH is right! I hope you can laugh about it down the road a bit. I probably wouldn’t unplug it, unless you can reach back to unplug without having to unscrew the unit from the cabinetry. If you feel safer, you could just throw the circuit breaker that feeds the dishwasher. I don’t think there’s any shock risk in unplugging the drain pan sensor. Good luck!

Your problem was easy. Mine is more complex as it's coming from inside the door right side. It may be the soap dispenser mechanism. Intermittent issues drive me up the wall. This is the absolute worst dishwasher I've ever owned. They make them too complicated for their own good and they build them to fail. What a disgrace.

First time I use the dishwasher and this happen, should I be concern?

Hi Jac- it happened to me immediately after I installed it because the water supply line wasn’t tight enough. Not a worry if you can find the cause of the drip right away. Good luck!

@@NashwaukSteve so i keep getting the same error code. Called the Whirlpool tech and they said it’s most likely I’m not properly putting my dishes correctly in the dishwasher. But I’m barely putting any dishes in the bottom rack. I honestly can’t find the drip even when it’s going off. Any suggestions?
