Great video! However, as mentioned below, the metal adjuster has to slide into the grooves of the long plastic piece it attaches to. This does not seem to be done in the video.
So let me get this straight: there were problems with the original design, so Whirlpool expects us to go out and spend money on the replacement “Heavy duty” stainless steel rack adjuster because they screwed up and used plastic to begin with? And then we have to fix it ourselves or pay someone else to fix it? Maybe this should’ve been recalled.
Wait what? They just sent me one single plastic replacement part ... not a KIT! Am I replacing one frail fragile p.o.s. with another one? Am I going to be doing this again in 4 months?
Careful when he says "nests right into the rack" What he forgets to mention is that the metal piece that is attached to the wheels has to sort of thread up into the plastic body. Had he said this for this IMPORTANT step, I would have finished this in under 10 minutes. The second side was a breeze, but I had to use another video to be sure of the metal to plastic fitting.
You are correct, sir!! A 10 minute fix turned into a four beer frustration....he leaves out a crucial step.....don't use the 'official whirlpool' site!!
Agree! The next video that automatically loads explains the installation steps better, but forgoes the explanation on how to remove the original adjuster assembly.
Use this video for the old adjuster removal steps. Then use this one for the installation steps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C1sj_sO7jiU.html
Important information missing in this video! Mentioned by both Jay and Steph, thank you. I had to reference the paper instructions to see that the metal piece must thread up through the plastic body or it will NOT snap in place.
Thank you! I wish Whirlpool would recognize the original plastic part was crap. Didn’t appreciate having to pay for the new metal piece, but at least the broken adjuster didn’t result in buying a new dishwasher.
You may be able to get the kit free. Call or Chat with KitchenAid. Explain all the plastic wheel hub ends have broken off. Say it seems like it might be a design or manufacturing defect, and ask if there is a recall or bulletin on this problem. Have your Model# and Serial# ready. This worked for me.
I found a perfect replacement for the broken plastic piece online. His instruction on how to disassemble the original to get it off the rack was very helpful. I had it off in seconds. The new part with improvements clipped on instantly. Done. Thanks for this video.
What an amazing tutorial. So clear and precise. We would have been in a mess with out you. The instructions that came with the parts were atrocious. It had virtually back pictures and crap instructions. Thank you so much.
Like someone else mentioned, the instructions that come with the kit are absolute garbage. Your video was a lifesaver. Easy to follow. You saved us a trip back to the Whirlpool dealer for sure. Thank You so much!
Those metal rack adjusters must slot into the plastic body. The video doesn't show this where it should, between 2:55 and when he installs the adjuster cap at 3:30. Otherwise very good instructions. Like the calming music, which should always be played when DIYing appliance repairs. :)
Thank you! Easy steps to follow, pause and rewatch as you need to. Take it slowly in the first side. I did the second side without rewatching. Great video!
Thanks SO MUCH! I'm so glad you had the removal instructions of the old rack adjuster, too. My husband and I were each working on a side and had a great feeling of accomplishment and teamwork - at least I did, haha. Fixed for $41 including tax and shipping!
This official video is wrong , the ajuster body has to slide into the metal piece if not it doesn't fit perfectly , if you look at the video he doesn't slide into the groves of the adjuster body he just put them on top an that way it doesn't close perfectly.
Yeah completely wrong. I wonder how many people have failed on the installation of this because they didn't slide that metal piece up into the adjuster like it's supposed to be. If you're going to post a how-to video you should at least know *how to* do it
This video misses a few steps to actually get the rack repaired. First, he installed the clips backward. That’s not a huge deal as it can work that way, but it does cause some misalignment. More importantly the metal piece has to slide into the grooves on the plastic adjuster before attaching the cap. In this video the adjuster is not actually connected to the metal component and will not function at all.
This very helpful. The only issue is at the 3 minute mark, it isn't explained that the metal piece of the adjuster rack that sits inside of the adjustment body needs to slide between some tabs and click into place, or it won't fit properly. In the video they just kind of loosely assemble it together, which won't actually work. Great video otherwise.
This guy couldn't assemble squat without someone helping him. But I digress, this vid is better than the enclosed instruction sheet where the pics are so blurred you can't use it.
Thanks. I got a different replacement rack adjuster - but this video was a big help to me in disassembling (and then just had to reverse steps to assemble). 16 bucks for two new rack adjusters - wonder how much a repair company would have charged for this simple job.
Important steps are missing in this demonstration. 1) how to undo the clips which hold the drawer on the racks; 2) need to slide the rear piece onto the metal upright piece of the roller assembly; 3) how to insert the actuator piece BEFORE snapping the front piece to the back piece 4) how to replace the clips on the roller glides. Checkout other videos. good luck
completely irresponsible to have this video on the whirlpool support site. TWO MAJOR steps completely omitted. The next video in the queue was extremely helpful.
I wish I would have read the comments first! It’s a travesty that this video is still up as an official Whirlpool video despite being wrong. The actuator piece does not “nestle into” the metal piece; the metal piece slides into the plastic actuator piece.

Thank you for the basics as the factory instructions are vague. Unfortunately, the way that this rack is repaired in this video does not allow for rack height adjustment. One needs to be careful to have the thumb pad facing the front of the rack and the vertical portion of the adjustor arm needs to be slid completely into the adjustor body - as seen in Figure 6 of the instructions.
The video was helpful but it missed the important step of aligning (inserting) the metal edge of the adjuster with the plastic slots of the adjuster body. I should have read the comments section first; it would have saved me an hour of frustration. Yep, it would have been an easy 15 minute fix. Once it was put together correctly everything worked great.
The adjuster body install is in error in this video. The wheel metal part has to "slide" into the adjuster body grooves otherwise the parts do not align.
Thanks, good video as a visual guide. Most after-market parts do not come with instructions, so this came in handy. Most of the negative comments on here were a little unreasonable...just use common sense and look at things for a few moments to make sense of it.
This video is fairly lacking. The second half rushes far to quickly had to watch it several times, more or less skips steps. The presenter is nice, but it should be twice as long. How about more explanation of the parts, the orientations, and install, function, etc. and an explanation about why the replacement parts are different from the original
I have this model WDT975SAHZ in two of my rentals and my house. ALL 3 HAVE HAD THE TOP RAILS BREAK.. First was less than 3 years, the other was 1.5 years and now this one is 13 months! SERIOUSLY WHIRLPOOL????????
The value of this video is he shows how to remove the old adjuster assembly. Some important points on installing the new adjuster are missing. You'll want to check out another video for correct instructions.
is there any way someone can get a part of the kit instead of having to get the entire one? At 1:02, you are removing a face plate contraption (I don't know what it's called). That's all I need. It would be much easier to just snap one in place than have to pay 6 times more for the kit and have to go to the extent of replacing the entire kit. I know the adjuster kit has been redesigned but perhaps if some company you know that sells old parts is still around, is it possible to get the part?
It allows you to adjust the upper rack up and down to fit taller things in the bottom rack push down on the round plastic adjuster tabs and you can move it
Thanks for this helpful video. However I'm angry about Whirpool as the original part did not event last 2 years. I will never buy a Whirpool anymore. A basic part that broke within 2 year is not inspiring confidence.
if it was truly a OEM piece for this rack , it would be a complete plastic assemblie - the original piece was all composite plastic- not metal - so is Whirlpool stating the plastic is crap from beginning and that's why they have metal replacement or is whirlpool try to scam consumers by having this made by a third party chinese company and this is what they are trying to shove at people
It's all part of the aftermarket/service scam these appliance manufacturers have been using for years. Make the original equipment with garbage so the consumer has to replace the parts with genuine OEM parts...
You have to search youtube for a better video on how to attach the metal piece to the plastic body. This video does not explain it and you will not install it correctly. The other video does a much better job of explaining that crucial part.
Very frustrating video. Skips steps or does not explain thoroughly. In one step, he literally says, this one can be tricky and then cuts away until after it is done. Also does not explain that the metal adjuster needs to slide into the housing. Just says to clamp it in and it should fit fine. Had to watch another video with more thorough explanation.
as noted below, do yourself a favor and skip this tutorial, and go straight to this one! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pZO1rcMwKBc.html
