Another option for tapping in the bearings - use the old ones. Clean em up a bit and put some paper towels (2) between them and the new bearings, line them up with the new bearings underneath, and tap in as above. The wood I had to use was too soft and just denting, so I got the old bearings out and wasn't worried about messing THEM up so used them to tap in and ensured I was only hitting the outer ring of the new bearings. made installing the smaller bearing (where the c-ring goes) a LOT easier. I really appreciate your video! Our Whirlpool (different model, same style) has been working for nearly 20 years now with me being able to swap parts. So I appreciate you help save me the cost of a new washer!
I did the same and then on the inside, when it was recessed, i used the 3rd bearing I got (but did not need). Used this to double up to get over the plastic lip on the inside. Also watch the outside, when you use the small bearing that it does not get stuck when you counter sink the first ring.
Yeah you right, I saw another video another gentleman use old bearing to knock out the new one... but I guess this is his first time... still has to learn hihihihi atleast he got it working hihihihi
By the way do you know what kind of GREASE they use for washing machine bearing... I add grease to the back bearing but it only helps 1-2 months... I think I am using wrong grease
I had a Whirlpool 9150ww01 . This video was a Great Help. My washer was different, had to remove cement weight on the top of the machine, mine also only had 2 shock asorbers instead of 4. This very, very informative, took his time and explained everything, which is rare on here. Usually somebody does not go into such detail. I appreciate it, good job. There is a lot to tear apart and it looks daunting, make sure you have lots of room too. It sure is worth the effort price wise, rather than buying a new washer. Thanks again for such a great video.
Great video that helps me a lot, thanks! I’ve been able to do it alone by dismounting the three concrete blocks before moving the tub out. It makes the work 3 times easier and the blocks are pretty easy to move!m. Just be careful, some of them must slide downward to be removed so watch you toes and the motor 😊

In fact I'm going to order that spring ring you used on that front rubber seal.....my model has a crumbled fiber ring. My wife has an appliance repair rider on our electric bill, but they won't touch it.....deems the unit Unrepairable. So a 50 dollar investment makes sense to me, now that I've learned the pitfalls, thanks to you. Scheduling up the brother in law for a Second set of hands, so I think we're good to go. Informative on the bearing and seal, worked flawless. Suggestion on tapping the new bearings in, place a cloth on top of new bearing then line old bearing up directly on top and the 2x4 piece over that, tap with hammer and it lines up perfect every time without damaging them. PS, hope his “boo boo” is better 😅
Great job...I'm a tech a d wouldn't do this job in NYC for less than 1500$ too much time and so many other things can go wrong...but I commend those that get it done
Paul E's idea of using the old bearings works very well to get the bearings started. I am fortune enough to have a bearing press which I use when working on the car wheel bearings. It is the cat's meow! I don't know how to add a picture of my set but I certain you know what I am talking.✌
we just put our drum back in and tightened the 'spider'? the wheel that has the belt around it in the back, the drum hardly works... how tight should it be? I don't want to go further in case we screwed something up
In 17 years of heavy use, I never had ANY issues with my Kenmore Elite 4ht front load washer, which was made by Whirlpool. Never had any mold or odor issues either; also, I've always had only soft water go into it, so I'm sure that is a factor in its longevity. I sold my house last year and I left the washer and dryer, but when I got into the new house, I couldn't find a Sears store ANYWHERE near me in my state, SO...knowing that first set was also a Whirlpool, just in Kenmore clothing, I went out and bought another top-of-the-line Whirlpool front load washer and dryer. I think they're among the best choices you can make. My other choice would have been a Speed Queen front load washer/dryer set. Outside of these, I wouldn't have anything else.
Great video. Was freaking out the whole time with the metal and hardwood floors 😆. I hear something flopping in mine but the inside metal barrel has no play. Can something get behind and cause the flopping noise
@@RayFixesAll Sadly, I took it all apart, only to find the main truss on the back of the basket severely corroded and cracked. So for me, it wasn't bearings at all. I couldn't find a replacement basket, it is a pretty old machine at this point. So at least I don't have to reassemble it!
Great video. My washer had a lot of rust on the floor of the machine the wheel with the belt and all over the tub and bearings. Got both of the bearings out but the rust inside the tub hub is extreme. I'm wondering if the water did too much damage to make it worthwhile to bother with the new bearings feeling inside the hub on the other side of where the bearings seat, it is extremely rough. Appreciate your thoughts on this.
As long as they're not pitted too bad you should be able to sand it down with Emory cloth or like a 220 sandpaper just be careful not to take off too much just smooth the rust and then press the bearing in and you should be fine
I have a whirlpool duet model wfw9470wl01 I got the outer bearing ok but appears the inner bearing is molded in. It has rust out and no longer there. Do you or anyone know of a bearing kit that would that would fit inside of the molded in bearing? Great video btw.

The bearing set you used has three bearings but you only used two, correct? Where does the third go, was it for the motor? Or has it found a home in your parts box? :-D
Finally got my bearings in and changed out in the washer drum. Thanks again for the video. All went well but it would have moved a little easier if I had an extra person to help pulling out the drum. I got a question for you guys thou. When the bearings came in it came with three bearings and the seal. Two bearing and the seal are for the washer drum but I don't know what the larger bearing is for. I am thinking it is for the dryer but I am not 100 % certain. Just an educated guess. would you know what the extra bearing is for.

No they're doing fine my wife does laundry almost everyday I have five kids so it gets used about 2 to 3 times a day everyday still same bearings and still good
my buddy works at a bearing distruster for decades and he told me that the seal needs a non-corrode double lip seal meaning that carbon spring material eventually will be the death of any quality bearing.... the seal is where whirlpool may have screwed the pooch

It's nearing the end of 2024... I bought my whirlpool duet in april 2005...going on 20 years... It's still working like the day I got it...I've never had mold or smells from it because I always left the door opened... Once in a while (not too often) I will hear during the tumbling a squeaking sound... very faint... almost sounds like a nest of baby birds... then it just goes away and is silent for a long time, then it might come back again briefly... but it always goes away... I really DREAD when this dies because I've loved it but I know it can't keep going forever.... I have no freaking clue which model to get when it dies. Right now I'm thinking LG with turbo wash front loader... I don't want a top loader
Industrial washers can be stuffed like Thanksgiving turkeys, run constantly and only need new bearings once about every 10 years... but lordy if I put one too many towels in a load at home 🙆♂️
these things are 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag.. think I will part mine out and sell the parts on ebay.. very few last long enough for the bearings to wear out,, then its a main control board for 200 bucks .. if u can find one..
