This was helpful, as my softener was showing the same symptoms. So I ordered a new switch from Amazon, and the problem was still there. I was almost certain that I was going to have to replace the water softener, BUT THEN I took a closer look at the cam wheel that actuates the switch. It had a pretty good crust of salt and corrosion on it, especially in the recesses. So I scraped it all clean with a little screwdriver, and reset the machine again. It went into regen mode, so I will monitor and see if this truly solve the issue. So: make sure you look at the cam wheel and be sure it's clean enough for the switch to operate through its full stroke.
Thank God for youtube. I just install a brand new whirlpool softener and I got an Err1. When I took it out of the box the display was disconnected and the little switch didn't have the two wires hooked up to it. I hooked up those two wires that I thought were just free wires and resolved the issue. Thanks!
This was helpful. I had the same problem, found salt crusted around the switch, and when I disconnected the wires the little metal tab on the switch where the green wire goes broke off.
Mine has a little bit of water inside those recessed spaces on the white housing. Is this ok, or does this mean I have to open that up and replace all the gaskets? It's not a lot of water, but I'd say about a tablespooon of water comes out each time it regenerates. I see there is water on the top of yours too. Is that a big deal or not really?
Did you get the switch on amazon, also can you give me the model number of the switch. Thanks again for all your help. I think this is what is causing mine to not soften the water.
Mine started to make that noise after we lost power for 4 hours during the bad storm were getting today. I had shut off the water at the main to help lrevent freezing pipes when power came back on it was doing this any suggestions
@@danofalltrades3567 the motor seems to be running perfect. I just tried to clear the ERR1, but this time, for the first time, the switch is indicating open.
The motor will keep turning once powered on as long as it is working correctly. The switch is to disconnect the power to the motor. If the switch is open the motor will just keep running.
Dan, I have the same Whirlpool Water Softener. My problem is that I have standing water in the salt tank. I would appreciate any help that you can give me. Gary Jochum
@@danofalltrades3567 I actually figured it out last night it was the gasket inside that cone shaped thing where the brine line comes out of apparently it was worn out had grooves in it
