Great Review! I appreciate they made OG whirlwind available without having to take it apart and put the old components back in. I am a take it or leave it kinda Whirlwind fan. Cary, I loved how you were able to explain the entire new game and the modes in mere minutes. You should do a series like this for ALL games. "Cary does XXXX in 10" Sometimes it takes me dozens of plays to learn a game. Fantastic Review!
Wow…!! This is Awesome…!! It will be great if they come up with the Virtual Pinball version of it... I can’t afford the Original Pinball or the upgrade…😫😫
Great coverage Cary. Personally I'd love to see more and more of these types of kits come out. They can be a great way to revitalize a game you've already played to death and / or give an older game some more in-depth code.
Really useful video thanks. The lack of an auto fire for saved balls in multiball is a big negative that needs fixing, although I appreciate installation then becomes more complex
Nice review. I have funhouse 2.0 I look at like this you basically get $1500 in hardware so it’s really not a big risk to buy this. It’s worth the upgrade.
As someone who has never played Whirlwind I have a unbiased opinion. I think it adds some nice dimension to a game that left room for it . I think Cary nailed the score. The only thing I didn’t really like was the artwork quality. The characters are weird but most pinballs are aren’t they? If I had a Whirlwind and the $ to buy it , why not ? Especially since it can be switched back very easily.
Not even a purist. It just looks bad. A mode where you hit a stand up there times? Smash the flippers and win? Where you're fighting just a random nonsense of enemies that have nothing in common? And you think people hated dialed in; how would a Dialed In hater look at this and have the audacity to say "now THIS is a theme I can get behind?"
the manufacturers should design the games with removable assets in order to change things up down the road with new software in order to give the players options with their games. They could charge for it like video game companies do for DLC.
Thanks for the overall scoop on this addon, Cary..seems like your score and review is very fair..I sold my Whirlwind to a buddy who is putting the 2.0 kit on it soon (a nice whirwind at that)..I personally am a HUGE whirlwind fan, so I think any addon content is a huge bonus (artwork and concepts aside)..Its a great way to breathe new life into a classic and iconic machine, either way you slice it. What I dont get is that you hate spinners! If you dont like spinners, then are you not a fan of under pf magnets..and the question could go as far to pop bumpers..anyways I get it, just like I dont like scoops all that much..anyways thanks for the great vid and review!!!
Great and informative video. I love seeing the Power from Twilight Zone in the backglass. I wonder if that was a coincidence. Appreciate your time on this one
Yep, another update for a one or two shot game. I love it! I would love to see this on-site somewhere for tournament play. Having to hit all of the targets for scoring on this machine is awesome. And yes, those spinning disks on the playfield mostly suck.
Coooool video as always ! Taste is different, i like every new experience added to a existing game. Especially when new games cost thousands of dollars. Gamekits are getting a cool option. Hope this market stays hot !
Technically very well put together but lacking thematically, should have have explored more storm/wind theme as the lame monster etc takes away from the brilliance of the original game. Overall a missed opportunity sadly.
I love Whirlwind, and this looks really cool. Not a fan of the artwork but I like everything else. Now I just have to convince my friend that has Whirlwind to get this. Also being able to switch right back to the original game was a good idea.
i really think the art of the blowing storm isnt meant to be taken literally as some sentient character living in a world full of kooky characters but more a personification of a relentless storm that is more akin to old fashioned map illustrations. obviously, there is an existing art style i feel these approaches would work far better if the artist at least attempted to match the art styles of the original games. things like line weight, colour palette , level of detail/realism/how it warps perspective cartoonishly, shading approaches. all pretty basic stuff that pro illustrators should at least pick up on
ugh these new back glass art works always have such a jarring art style . also the new modes seem completely disconnected to whirlwind and more akin to a foo fighters stern type game. i dunno if these random modernizations are what people enjoy fair enough doesnt capture the feeling of an extended whirl wind to me just something else new entirely. Im not a mega fan of the original so whatever lol
Totally useless. I’ve played this and the Funhouse package and found zero fun in either. One of the biggest rips offs in the pinball market today. Changing a System 11 to a DMD style game does not work.
The van revenge concept is so stupid when they had such an obvious easy solution; storm categories. Why not have the storm get bigger and more difficult? Or why not have diffeerent storms? Just stupid the "upgrade" to rhe storm based table is trying to be like Medieval Madness instead of based on weather..... 🙃
