Great video guys! As someone who’s just starting to “graduate” to better bourbon, I find all of your videos to be super informative, helpful, and most of all entertaining! I do have one request - for videos like this one, would it be possible to also get the list in text form either as a pinned comment, in the video description, or posted on the web somewhere? It’d make creating my shopping lists MUCH easier! 🤣
I’ve had every bottle Dan has had and enjoyed them. 3 of Sean’s bottles I haven’t (2 I’ve never seen and possibly never will). Should tell you who is worth listening to. #TeamDan
Thanks Guys, was eyeing that Calumet 16 hesitated on pulling the trigger. Now you guys “Forced” me to buy it 😂. Would be interesting to throw the Calumet 12/14/15/16 into a blind
The owners at penelope offer a level of customer service unmatched by any company. I had a mix up with batch numbers and shipping and not only did they get involved, they sent the correct batch for free. Great company, great whiskey!
Never seen a Penelope Black Label up in Canada but I did buy the Red Label Barrel Proof yesterday. Going to crack that....tonight probably. Great lists guys
Larceny Barrel Proof is shockingly hard to find for a decent price around my area. Big fan, but definitely not a comparatively “available” bourbon in these parts.
It is a unicorn in my area as well. And not worth hunting in my opinion. They taste like lighter fluid. Way hotter than their proof. But that is just my opinion.
1. Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon (store picks even better). 2. Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye. 3. New Riff Single Barrel Bourbon (store picks even better). 4. Redbreast 12 Cask Strength. 5. Four Roses Small Batch Select.
I get so pumped whenever there’s a John J shoutout! First time hearing anything about them changing their source though. Took a tour in the last couple months and at least at that point they were still getting their distillate from Buffalo Trace.
I didn’t Ike the Cal15 because of the cherry but once it sat in the shelf at a shoulder pour for a while it tamed down a bit. Thankfully. It left a beautiful sweet oak at the end and mid pallet that’s really fantastic. 🥃
ok kinda realistic which is nice.... JJBowman not here i've had their others and love the Port Finish, Woodford Batch proof haven't seen on a shelf in forever, Calument 16 not here yet and Larceny BP again not on the shelves... I'll keep an eye out for those but i do have all the others... the only one of those i think i should be able to get easy is the Calumet 16 only cause 14 and 15 are still on most shelves here. Good List, Great Work you guys did a great job....Even Sean..... Have a Wonderful Weekend
Acutally kinda surprised Seans 5 weren't Pappy15, OF Birthday Bourbon, Old Carter, WLW and other Btac.... cause I fully Expected Sean to be "That Guy"........
Great list! Glad to say I have one of each! 2022 List of Bourbons I will be buying is pretty simple: Bourbon Junkie Picks! That is all for 2022 for me LoL
Calumet 16 Year is understandable! Such a flavorful bourbon, that oaky sweetness at the end of the finish is delicious and I'm not someone who usually likes the heavy oak finishes but... damn, it's great!
Love me some John J Bowman SiB! I live about an hour south of the distillery and have taken the tour, and can confirm that they are distilling their own stuff now (with the exception of the rum I believe). Great staff and amazing whiskies!
My favorite in your list is the Woodford Reserve double oaked and the Calumet Farm Single Rack Black Bourbon 16 yr. is $145.99 where I live...not likely, and as for high rye bourbons you should review the Ross & Squibb (yes I know) Remus highest rye 6 yr. 109 proof its quite tasty and at $49.99 affordable and easy to find. 🥃Cheers!
Dan is a man of many whiskey tastes standing in front of 4 of what appears to be identical bottles of Bardstown Discovery series bourbons. I do respect the Savant
Love the list! Approachable yet not all “duh” picks Two solid shelfers I see everywhere - Belle Meade Reserve 108.3 proof (65$) - knob 9 at 100 proof ($35) Reasonable prices and solid oaky sweetness. My go to shelfers sleeper picks
I don’t recommend getting drunk during your reviews! 😂 With all the Brown Forman I was expecting a bottle of Jack to come out next! Seriously, great lists, nice job!
That's a solid list for both. I do wish the woodford batch proof was more available because the 1 bottle I did actually find was amazing. And now I just hunt unsuccessfully for more when I leave PA. Our little whiskey club is doing rye whiskeys next month; putting that OF on the docket for sure.
Larceny BP and Issac Bowman are not available in my area. I think I have seen a Bowman on the shelf 1x, and it was in 2021 and now I regret not buying it as I never seen it again. I did pick up Redwood Empire Lost Monarch on your reco (some time ago) and we have just seen it available in the last couple of months here and it is so delicious. I think it was 35 here and I just bought a back up bottle. While I have not really landed on a daily sipper for me yet as I am still exploring this is the first time I have purchased a back up bottle of anything. So thanks for that one!
Picked up a bottle of Rare Breed batch LL/KB (Turkey is my jam) today based on your review. You guys were right, it's awesome! Thanks for calling out the batch code, btw, adds a little excitement to hunting the bottle.
Agree with both lists and appreciate the topic. Sorry to hear about Dan's back, but he clearly got something good to help with the pain. His discomfort resulted in a hilarious video so remember to take a dose before shooting videos in the future! :)
Love the list, guys! Woodford DO was the first bourbon I fell in love with! I’ve been on the lookout for that Sagamore DO after seeing you guys and Cheech rave about it but it’s eluded me in Ohio so far. Haven’t made the jump to purchasing Ryes yet but sounds like that’s the one to start with. Cheers! 🥃
Same, one of the stores I frequent in NC had it for over a month and by the time I decided to grab one it was gone. VA is still dropping C921 so hoping they get the A122 eventually
Great video and pretty cool that I have six of these and almost 8 - I have Redwood Emerald Giant and Larceny B521 and C921. Felt like I was watching the lottery with my numbers called...lol. Love all Penelope - have about 15 bottles - especially the American Light and the guys are from the town where I live. I've passed on Calumet but sounds like the 16 is worth the 🦌. Never considered the OF rye though. May have to look into that one day to see how it compares with other favorites like HW RR, Pikesville, Woodinville, Bulleit 95, Wilderness Trail, KC, WT RB Rye...
OF Rye is straight bubblegum cigar. Fantastic stuff! Redwood is everywhere here in Houston, so I really need to try it. Dan's always bringing it up! Bowman SB is great, and only about $27 down here. Total Wine here has the Calumet 16 at $134. I should jump on it.
I've been searching for the bowmans single barrel for months here in Michigan. Closest I've found is their small batch for $80 which I couldn't justify. And I did manage to pick up a local store pick of the Woodford double oaked last April. Very tasty!
Great video! I am going to look for Sagamore Spirit DO Rye now. Also I don’t know what it’s like to be in an area that would have Larceny barrel proof “sitting on shelves” but that sounds awesome
one thing to add about asking your store to get things for you. if you ask them to get you allocated items, they will hate you. allocated means they cant just ask for it. they get offered it.
Great vid. I wish you guys would put the picks in the notes or pinned comment so I can screenshot. Perhaps you think that would detract from the mystery and most importantly the actual views. Understandable but I don’t think so. Thanks.
I bought the Calumet 16 after this video. Glad I picked it up can’t wait to crack it. I loved the 14, the 15 was meh but I still enjoyed it. Adding the 16 to my collection is a bonus.
@Aidan I’ve heard both good and bad things about the 14 so I took a shot and enjoyed it. Maybe the people who said it tasted like worms got a bad one but who knows lol. The 15 was had an overwhelming amount of cherry notes that it didn’t make it as enjoyable. I can’t wait to try the 16.
Hey, have you tried "six and twenty 5 grain bourbon"? (from a distillery near Greenville SC) If so, what do you think? A vendor was giving samples at my liquor store on Weds and I really liked it, so I bought a bottle ($42). They claim to be the world's first 5-grain bourbon (they don't list the percentages of their mash, but it is Corn, Soft Red Winter Wheat, Barley, Black Seashore Rye, and Carolina Gold Rice). It had a different combination of flavors from any bourbon I had tried, and I enjoyed it. I also have just switched my budget bourbon from EW 1783 to EW BIB. Not that anyone cares, but I was surprised how much I liked the BIB.
Interesting, I just picked up a bottle of Lost Monarch and love it. I consider it a desert whiskey. I liked it so much, I bought another bottle, and if I can find it for $30ish, I'll buy every bottle I see at that price. I paid 44 for the first bottle, but they ordered it for me, it's a bit much at that price, imo. Found the second for 38.
Love your picks: I love Old Monarch, I love Old Forester and the Single Barrel Rye is good. You truly cannot beat Woodford Double Oaked for the price and the rich taste. I live in Virginia and I love John J Bowman single Barrel - it is so good! Rare Breed is excellent but I think my favorite whiskey right now is Russel's Single Barrel - Store Pick! It is so great, and I like it better than Rare Breed. I have not been able to find the Sagamore Double Oaked, I will have to go to MC's Liquor Store in Tennessee, they usually have everything. I would really like to get Woodford Master's Select. Gotta find that. I do like Larceny - I will have to find that bottle of Larceny. I just saw the Calumet 16, but I did not buy it because I did not want to spend the money if I didn't know if it was good. Now that I see Sean likes it, I will have to pick it up. I have a Penelope Barrel Strength from Last year. It was really good. Loved this show!
You, good sir, are my whiskey spirit animal. I saw the Calumet 16 at the grocery store (got a good liquor guy) but I didn't buy either. I'm not a leather/tobacco/oak guy. Is it worth it if you don't enjoy sucking on a smokey, leather, oak couch?
I've still only seen Larceny C921 on shelves (which I love), but haven't seen any 2022 editions yet. Woodford Reserve Double-Oaked is my favorite bourbon (I was sipping it as I was watching this), but I've never seen that other Woodford Reserve fancy-looking bottle, so that's not in the "widely available" category in Colorado. Next time I visit my parents in Michigan, I'll hunt for it.
What am I doing with my life?...NOT GETTING OLD FORESTER RYE! Cause it disappeared off shelves out here in Arizona. At least around Total Wine. It was a 1 ltr for $20 at 100 proof. So good. I already enjoy Old Forester a lot anyways. I've been loving Old Ravenholdt as my go to budget Rye as of late. $20 Bonded rye. Non-chill filtered. AMAZING Old Fashioned maker.
@@BourbonJunkies it is very tasty. I think it's more similar to the 15 than the 14. Also looks like they're coming out with new Small Batch (blend of 8 and 15, previous was 8 and 14), 8, and 10 year. Also, I really want someone to bring up Alydar (search Wikipedia) in a review some day.
Great picks guys. I should be able to find all of those except the Larceny. Seems like that one is harder to find in TN. I have seen a few here and there but not consistently. Great list though.
Can y'all do a special video on blending whiskey together to make a sick drink. I just blend Sazerac Rye with Woodford reserve double wood and it tastes like heaven. It tastes so freaking good.
Binny's has some Rebel store picks that are wheated and distilled by HH. Basically single barrel Larceny barrel proof. Though, at 120 proof. 🤷♂️ All for $50. You can pick this up with your $30 Redwood Empire and all the WF Double Oaked($60) you want.
Finally wrangled a Redwood Empire. Excited to try! Haha, we did give you guys a hard time about the WT Red Labels. It's amazing 99% of the time....you guys probably got a dud somehow.
As a strictly a single malt scotch guy. Any recommendations for getting into bourbon? I’ve had makers mark, woodford reserve, and a couple others and disliked them all. Was gifted Blantons for my birthday and enjoyed it. Seems that I don’t like high rye content at all haha.
