Another good tip is this: as fakers tend to fill bottles with cheap whisky, it will be mostly at 40%. Your Port Ellen 5th is at 57,4%, so hen you give the bottle a little shake, those bubbles that appear at the top should remain there for at least 10 seconds.
I just bought a Kilchoman 2006 Vintage Release which I am 95% sure is a fake. I don't think I would have even considered the possibility of purchasing a fake let alone recognize one had it not been for your video, which I had coincidentally and very fortunately viewed just 1 week prior to my purchase. Thanks Ralfy!
People say wine ages in bottle. It does. But it ages upto a certain time period only. After that it remains same or even detoriates in bottle. So, people buying extremely old bottles are just for an antique. Such bottles don't have much quality value to be honest.
As far as I know Port Ellen annual releases has silver metal cap not black as yours In my opinion it is fake or someone used original bottle and refilled it with something. please check it yourself and make sure you are giving correct info on your video :)
Hey Ralfy! Sorry if its a bother, but I trust your opinion more than the people I buy my whisky from.. I want to give one of my mates a nice bottle of whisky, maybe something on port casks or something like that.. Any clue what might be a nice bottle to give? Again, sorry if its a bother, but if anyone could give me some good whisky advice, its probably you.. Cheers, A Malt Munching subscriber..
Probably a daft question, but why would the amount of whisky in the bottle decrease if a bottle is stored on its side? (does it get absorbed into the cork?)
Interesting: I had a dram with my collegues of Clynelish 14 earlier but the finish went on and on and on with some interesting sweet honey, vanilla and a pinch of smoke - I really liked it. The whisky was also a much more pleasant shade of amber than the bottle you have in this review - if they are still adding caramel, then they are doing it a bit more tastefully (unless the colour on your video decieves me or they mis-sold me the whisky). Perhaps I just got an extremely good batch. Perhaps one worthy of a re-review?
US Viewer here. Just subscribed. Drinking as I watch. THANK YOU for this. I am a college student with just enough spare cash to buy these enjoyable products. Thanks for the tips and tricks. I appreciate these little facts more than the reviews, dont think I dont enjoy those for a second. It is like having your granddad sit you down and teach you how not to waste your money or your purchases.
Ralfy, now that you have over 10,000 subscribers you should as others do, when they reach that benchmark, have a contest and giveaway to the winner, please not a fake bottle of Scotch. I understand my request is a very hard call to make, but it doesn't have to be alcohol and it would make for a good vid. Goes without saying another great vid can't wait for the next!
New show idea...CWI (Counterfeit Whisky Investigations). Starring Ralfy as the Detective Inspector. Patrolman - "Inspector, it looks like those whisky counterfeiters were a gang of school aged boys." Inspector Ralfy - "Well I guess you can say they weren't ***puts on sunglasses*** properly matured." YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
i was also unlucky one time when buying a couple of bottles whyte & mackay 30 y old... it was so filthy and it had a few of the benchmarks you discribed never buy liqour at AIRPORTCIGARETTES WEBSITES again
Dear Mr. Ralfy, I have purchased many time fack whisky in Yemen - which in fact refilled with fack whisky ............... the bottle were closed with glue
Hello Ralphy, I love your channel and have found it incredibly helpful in my journey to educate myself in the fine beverage that is single malt whiskey but I was wondering if there is something I can use to cleanse my palate before sipping whiskeys? Thanks a lot!
