Thank you for featuring my puzzle and sorry for the struggle with box 5 :) You did a great job solving it, especially the coloring part was very interesting and I was wondering how far you would get with that approach :) I guess that digit makes it more a 1.5* ish puzzle although you were on the right path earlier on, but just did not spot it immediately. I‘m glad you liked the puzzle and the ruleset. I fully agree with the comment on the line color, however, most „good“ colors are already taken by other variants. I‘ll try to take a more bright brown color next time. FYI: you pronounced the name correctly ;)
I'm guessing that you've taken some courses in mathematical analysis which is where you got the term "saddle-point" from (so it's a local max in one direction and a local min in the other direction). Hope you're planning more sudokus with this concept - nice job!
Thanks for the puzzle, looked daunting at the start, but Sleuth’s explanation was very clear. Loved how you had the saddle, German whisper and quads interact. Very enjoyable
Nice puzzle. The 2nd thing I noticed, was 9 couldn't be on that bridle in box7 (nothing could be higher in the ring -- and it couldn't be increasing unless 9 was on the end), so that set the polarity on that German Whisper (along with 5 being off it 1st) Now with 123 on the end, and a 5 somewhere next, that had to be decreasing from the ring -- and so decreasing on the other side of the saddle -- I think 123 on the other end in box1 -- and increasing like a thermo to a 67 in the ring/ shoehorn) I don't know why I saw that front part as the bridle, but I guess that's the bridle part of the saddle, lol. Oh, btw, is "Schma" short for "Schumacher"? (You may have to go to a horse Schumacher to Shoe that horse, lol) Nice puzzle, again.. 😅
Saddle is a new word for me! 🎉 Hum... I need to read the rules more carefully because I miss the "strictly increase or decrease" part 😅 I almost got lost till I find both 9 looking at the central box...and I see that you fell into the same trap 😂 Thank you! 😊
Very much enjoyed the puzzle. Struggled to make progress at the exact same point as Sleuth, and spent about the same about of time with a bunch of needless coloring
Interesting puzzle; interesting constraint with lots of possibilities. My only suggestion would be to use a lighter shade of brown. The current dark shade obscures pencilmarked center digits
Totally second that. I’m grateful for the channel and the puzzles, so I very rarely complain. But that shade of brown made reading the center pencilmarks so difficult I had to color those squares for better contrast.
Now I don't feel as bad about the hour and a half on the other puzzle. We all are slower to see things at times. Those poor nines laughing at you with their dangly edges just staring into box 5. Sorry you missed it for so long. That was basically the entire difference between this being a GAS for me and a 1.5* for you. Again, don't feel bad. :)
I guess the reason I saw it was because I had the 9s corner pencil marked in box 5 before I realized the 78 diagonal deduction which left only one pencil mark.
