They looked a solid 9.0 for me Lee. Just a quick note as far as the chips being greasy. If the fish is cooked to order, the fish won't have had time to drain properly, in the counter top display warmer. What should have happened was a layer of greaseproof paper should have been placed in the empty box, with the fish on top of that, then fill the box with the portion of chips. That way the chips don't get covered in the drained oil from the freshly cooked fish batter. On the subject of those salt and vinegar sachets, get yourself a miniature pair of nail clippers, and keep them in your glove box. You'll then be able to just snip off a corner of the sachet with ease. Or you could carry a small atomizer with vinegar in it for emergencies, and a small camping salt dispenser. It's something we always carry in the glove box, just to be on the safe side. They can be kept with spare plastic forks in a small zip-up case with spare napkins, and wet wipe hand sanitizers. You'll be glad you have them, if you're ever in need of the items listed above. Cheers Lee. 🍺
Looks like the fish came straight out of the fryer and almost immediately on top of your chips. The fish just keeps on draining onto your chips. Grim but a trend. Can't seem to stop em . Old style chippys used to do them in batches, plenty of time to drain. That aside, they look nice, vinegar might be a covid thing as you pointed out. A solid 8/10.
You're right about the overtaking lorries! I used to deliver car parts to Doncaster on the A1 regularly. You get one lorry doing 60mph, then another decides to overtake doing 60.001mph! Used to make my blood boil!!!😡
MM, For me the fish looked good, curry sauce looked good, chips looked a bit poor and sad 7/10. I think when you change your next car you should have a condiments option in your center console as those packets are a pain. Nothing to do with me mate really but I would give the Whitby bashing a wide birth now in case you are contacted and challenged for vexatious complaints/criticism potentially leading to a detrimental impact on their business, you're a big boy but I wouldn't want you in the S### mate. Great video ✌️🍻
I was born in Ipswich, just a normal working Suffolk Chap. Best Fish n Chips are in Aldeburgh or Dunwich in Suffolk, if you can dodge the green-welly brigade from London! (love them really but they do need to have the piss pulled out of them, it does them good!). Crown Point in Martlesham has done brilliant food for 40 year to my knowledge. Mobile chippy that stops in Orford, or the any of the pubs in Orford, my home town. As a country boy living on the East Coast of Suffolk .......Whitby ?....disappointing. If you are ever in Suffolk and want a great bit of Sea Bass, Lighthouse in Aldeburgh or the pub in Waldringfield. Not as expensive as you may think (I'm not rich) but just lovely food.....basically any Pub on the East Coast of Suffolk. Best ever take-away Fish and Chips? right on the beach at Swanage in Dorset....wow !, the chips are wonderful last time I went. I dunno, if you get Fish and Chips from a Pub, Cafe, Restaurant next to the deep dark Sea in Suffolk, then it will be fresh and wonderful.
Called here last week and had a small cod and chips was a 10/10. Chips were perfect and to me it didn’t look like a small cod. Was happy to visit somewhere you had reviewed.
My old Grandad would have said 'That fish is wearing it's woolly jumper'. (IE batter not fully cooked). Try the chippy in Boroughbridge. - Thick, white haddock with crunchy, grease free batter.
Lee you'll have to go to Whitby in disguise that would be a hilarious episode see if you get your chips before your scraps lol The fish looked great and curry sauce was better than South Shields so I'd give it a 8.5 would have been 9 with the skin on which l think is so tasty but that's preference.
I totally agree with you about the boxes/containers of fish and chip spoiling them and making them go soggy. My local fish and chip shop in Bournemouth (Dens Fish and Chips) wrap them up in grease proof paper and they are gorgeous. Plus you get big portions of chips which you don't get with the boxes.
Think fish n chips are best wrapped in the paper. And I love the thumbnails Lee. A bit of a laugh never hurt anyone! It's your thing and doing no harm. Have a nice weekend. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
Ok Macca since we’re marking on looks, that wasn’t the best looking fish and chips you’ve had, looked greasy as you’ve pointed out I’d say 7/10, since you mentioned the boxes, why do the use a tiny box and put the fish on top of the chips, use a bigger box and the fish can go on the side ? If you get anything other than fish it isn’t in a box ! I agree about the salt n vinegar too as it creates the aroma when put on in the shop, another good video Bonny lad 👍🏻
Hi Lee glad you enjoyed the fish and chips But I agree with you the chips did look greasy. It's good that they asked you If you wanted the skin on very unusual! Thanks for posting.
That used to be the old firestation. Across from the chippy is the oldest racecourse in the UK with listed stands to the left of the chippy. The new grandststand and event centre is across from Whitbys. I ate in there a few years ago and it was top drawer. Food, tea and service.
Greasiness is always a problem with fish & chips cooked in oil; I always have a sheet of kitchen paper handy The oil always leaks out of the batter and soaks the chips, so as soon as I open the packaging I lay the fish on the paper for a minute or two to soak up the excess.
They look pretty good, My score for each is 9. The fish is a decent thickness with crispy batter. The chips are the exact colour I like but a little greasy and peas correct colour and correct consistency. Curry is not for me so no score. Chips cooked in beef dripping is a 10 everybody should try. The Bramcote chip shop in Nottingham is the best chips
Hi lee just watched the CraicMaster (captain h) on catch up he has been letting us know about the the pond life who have been less than polite about you just wanted to let you know how important the work you have been doing from tenerife has helped me though this hard time we are living through we love our hols in tenerife and watching your vlogs has kept us sane a big thank you your the best in the World
If you've ever watched that laugh-a-minute film 'Threads', you'll know that it's about the aftermath of a nuclear strike. In the film, the bomb is dropped on RAF Finningley, which of course is now Robin Hood Airport.
Looked like proper chips cooked in dripping rather than spry which is why they look a little greasy Fish seemed ok Agree chippy should have salt and vinegar shakers Liked that they asked about skin
How dare you call OUR!😉 local airport!! WE HATE YOU WE HATE YOU!🤣🤣😉. Honestly Lee if you ever get chance to fly from there do so👍it's a great little airport.🙂
Whetherby Whaler are top notch. They are in Whetherby Pudsey York Wakefield and Guiseley, Leeds. They taste the same at every branch eat in or take out. We have been to every one.
Nice looking fish and chips, nice thick curry! As a Yorkshire man in Canada it is tough, absolutely brutal trying to get decent fish and chips in Ontario.
The greasiness of your fish is down to the fact that it has been fried to order. Usually, you would go to the chippy and they would already be in the "warming box" (I've no idea what it really is). But whilst there even for a couple of minutes, the fat drains away to some extent. You are receiving your fish almost directly from the fryer and thus still full of oil or hopefully dripping.
that chips shop is 1 mile from me, a really good fish and chip shop any1 who wants to go it's near the racecourse, if you went to the next traffic light and turn right, you have the Lonsdale fish and chip shop which is also a good fish shop but plenty chips
HI, Lee got to say I hate the boxes it does make the fish and chips soft for some reason and I Don't like the package sauces nightmare to open 😤think this is a 8/10 because you said they a bit greasy and don't put salt and vinger on for you!! what is it with fish and chips later so hard to find a good one 🤷♀️😊xx
Hey Lee there's nowt like purrin yer own salt n vinegar on yer chippies sachet or otherwise, yer know gerra bit down n dirty 😉 Always vinegar first! 👍 Like salt n shake crisps, it's one of those life experience thingy's that needs to be faced head on. Hope that if you ask for sausage they don't ask if u want the skin leavin on or not, oh my! 😂
I think it's brilliant how you have got people's backs up in Whitby 😁. Of course, the threats and messages aren't brilliant, but the story is, haha. I found your channel recently and really enjoy watching your fish and chip videos.
I went to a Chippy/Restaurant in Richmond Surrey the other week. I normally eat Cod. The bloke behind the counter, said would you like a taste of COLIN? he offered me a plate of fish to try as a sample. Well no said I, I have never heard of it. Well he said you won’t know unless you try it. I said I will stick to Cod, looking at the plate I said it maybe as tasteless as Pollock, or some farmed fish for Asia. He then went very very quite. I sat down and ordered Cod and Chips £10. Edible but? The whole restaurant was full of elderly people, eating what ? At home I looked up COLIN on the WEB. Its POLLOCK, no wonder the bloke went quite. Well is it cheaper wholesale ,than Cod, Lee? At the time I was not aware of why POLLOCK was called COLIN. Is this widespread? Ie cheaper fish but priced the same as Cod? Who wants to eat Pollock?
Looked rather good to me even though a tad greasy. Based on looks and because you also said they tasted really nice and 1st class I think it's a definite 9/10. I would certainly buy some from there. Thanks again for a wonderful review Mr MacMaster.
@@TheMacMaster that’s surprises me but things can change I know Lee. We had a pasty in Clarke’s village in Somerset last year and it really nice! Went back a few weeks ago and it was Vile 😮. We love what you do MacMaster specifically in Tenerife 🍺🍺👍🤣
@@TheMacMaster Did you get them from the takeaway the last time you went to the Magpie? If so that's the reason there definitely not as good as going inside, something to do with the boxes maybe!
Hey Lee, what a building that was huuuge lol Food looked good I thought it looked a tad greasy but it's a takeaway so gonna expect some grease. Was those chips with skin on? Just that it looked like they did also it just proves it's fresh fish they serve as they asked skin on or off. I would give 8.8 because I would prefer them to put the salt n vinegar on for me instead of being given satchets x
Well for fish and chips they look delicious the batter on the fish looks light and crunchy the chips look cooked to perfection the curry sauce is nice and thick and the peas look ok so I'm gonna give it a solid 9 out of ten and you overtook me on the A1 i was in my truck I did wave but obviously you were concentrating on the road 😋
Re rich and chips in boxes. Well my pet heat is about some fish and chip shops using plastic bags for fish and chips. As them definitely makes them soggy 😡😡😡 they should only be using paper bags. I believe that the main reason why they are using boxes is for more to do with portion control, as it’s easier to do so that way. Seeing that they have put both sauces in the box, they have really reduced the amount of chips there 🤔🤔🤔🤔
First time I had fish and chips from their takeaway I wasn't that impressed, however, I have since eaten many times in their restaurant and I have to say, they are excellent, 9.5/10. Plus the staff are always very friendly.
Boooo plastic cutlery should be shunned. Fish looks really nice curry and peas looks good, I'll shoot it an 8.8. Don't forget your chippy reviews over on Coney Island if you get there. A few places claim to do them but are they any good? Go on Lee, onwards. 👉
@@TheMacMaster True but Sherwood Forrest stretched from the Pennines to Norfolk before deforestation. Hey but back to Fish & Chips.. Brilliant can't wait for more.
Fish looked great as did the peas and curry sauce. The chips looked bang average. It was obviously greasy due to the amount of grease left on the container after you finished. Don't like the salt and vinegar in sachets. It's an 8.1 from me.
A chippy review at long last 🤣🤣. The Macmaster lives and breathes fish n chips. Some say he’s a king edward others say he’s a haddock short of a sixpence. All we know is Lee Davey is Harry Ramsden incognito
Thumbnail makes me laugh and I start pulling faces with him and have to check myself, think the Doncaster Whitby meal was very nice, shame made to order means no time to drain but can't have both think a 9 from me
Lee lived in Hoboken New Jersey that was the boy home of Frank Sinatra if he visits there I hope he's able to show us the Frank Sinatra Museum, during World War II Hoboken New Jersey was big manufacturing center and gave us the joke about being made in Hoboken and the water of the city has great views of New York City. i also miss the days when they put fish and chips in a couple of sheets of plain, clean and sterile paper and then wrapped these up in newspaper. his meal was ok 8/10
Wow they ask if you want with or without the skin 👍 some people must want it on 🤔 good Business given the option 👍👍 but I agree they should put on the salt and vinegar in the shop because it Socks in ads flavour in my opinion
Have to say I feel fish and chips should always come in newspaper, keep the old tradition and ditch sticking them in a box. Great video as always Lee, oh by the way did u ever use to live in America 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@TheMacMaster I'm not sure I ever heard u mentioned anything about u living in America in all your videos 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh I forgot to rate the Fish and chips. I said u would give it 8.6 and u went for 8.7 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣🤣 I would of given it 8.6 and only because the chips looked bit to greasy and not wrapped in newspaper lol.
Think positive at least you got proper vinegar most chip shops served non brewed condiment and pass it off as vinegar when in fact it's a product made from crude oil one teaspoon filled up with a pint of water in a plastic bottle and you have imitation vinegar. I think over all it's 9 out of ten would have been a ten if it wasn't so greasy maybe chip shops should stop putting the fish on top of the chips have them side by side or drain the fish for a few minutes in the cabinet a problem easily rectified me thinks.
Hey Lee! I have to say that really did look greasy. The chips anyway. The haddock to be honest didn’t look too bad. Prefer mild curry and mushy peas that taste of something at least. Just a shame like you said putting fish and chips in boxes instead of on paper. Definitely is something about fish and chips with loads of salt and vinegar on. I’d give that an 8.5 there. Looking forward to your Vlog in USA. I still hope you will be going with Darren John. You two are quite the pair. Did you ever change your car by the way Lee?
