@@robertlucas1435 i think they use post production effects or replicas. At least i hope so. Even for people who aren't in cars i think thye will see that "damn... This is a 100k$ car maybe we shouldn't destroy it, its too expensive"
@@Nikmg0 There are some where they use real rollers, where its made up of junk parts with no engine or tranny, or the other half is CGI, but the older movies just used real cars.
@@robertlucas1435 i mean i ge twhy they used real cars for example in 1974 gone in 60seconds. They just didnt knew that some of them like for example '73 Mustang mach 1 will be a pretty rare and collectible car. For them it was a new Mustang, just like for us 2022 Mustang is.
@@robertlucas1435 u can't watch movie because they destroy car ? ok, appart from the part it's .. strange, there is also many movies without any car being destroyed ..
Moot point, it's flat out unamerican to refer to a 1st gen challenger's engine in "liters"... But yeah smallest option would have been a 318 which is still 5.something in commie-speak
You missed the whole point. The neighbour was just an idiot and bragged about something he knew nothing about. Hutch mocked him later when he repeated his words
Yeah im sure they had one of the oldest chrysler engines available for the 72 model year, despite the fact the smallest 8 you could get was the 5.2 318!
Seems like everyone is missing the point of the whole 4.9 thing. The owner was bragging when he didn't know shit then Hutch mocked him. The "he said" makes this even more clear
2:08 Now that's how you start a car chase, pop in a cassette tape, no wimpy cd or mp3, all the real badasses have tape decks in their car, just ask Johnny Lawrence, Hutch is a real man.
You can see it's repainted, since the engine bay is red. Only the fords had two tone painted engine bays, and they were all black. Who knows what else is real on that thing
@@tubbs2132 I really don’t see anything on the hood. Maybe it’s a bit of corrosion, but other than that, it’s a great 72’. We got fairly limited shots of the hood anyways.
@@corvettesareneat1274 I mean the inner fenders and everything else under the hood is a different color, looks like red to me. I think that's the original color of the car, since mopar engine bays were always body color, to my memory. You can see it at the beginning of the clip
@@tubbs2132 Yeah can actually see like an orange color. I’m not exactly sure if the engine bay color matched the one on the car exterior. Maybe the car had a little paint trouble, or they decided that painting it white would be better for the movie. Sick car anyways
Much more desirable is the 70 and even more the 71, I think they painted this Challenger white, because maybe, and just maybe, the guys who did the movie wanted to do some kind of a Vanishing Point homage.
@@thiagotremea5554 they had an extra foot pedal close to the driver's door as an e-break they also had floor mounted high beam switches, I've sat in the driver's seat of my dream car, a '69 dodge charger with a 440 magnum which had the same setup as most chrysler vehicles at the time, it was amazing!!!
4.9 liter V8? So the options for this car where slant six. 3.7 liter. V8 where 5.2 0r 5.4 or big block v8. Where did they ever option a 4.9? I think It doesn't matter. Couse he about to find out!!!! LMAO!
This crap nearly ruined the movie for me! The director/producer couldn't pay a car guy with any common sense to come advise on the car scenes? No Challenger ever had a 4.9L V8. You had so many legendary MOPAR powerplants to choose from! He coulda said anything from 340 Six Pack, 383 Commando, 440 Magnum, 426 Hemi. All would have been perfectly acceptable and absolutely believable, but no, they had to pull some 4.9L garbage out of their butts. Or, are we supposed to believe that the owner of this Challenger decided to not put any variant of a performance Mopar motor in his Challenger, and instead decided to swap it out for a ship anchor Chrysler A Block from 1955 that didn't have enough power to pull my pants down? And BTW, the 72 Challenger could only be had with the 3.7 liter slant six, the 5.2 liter 318 V8, and the 5.6L 340 V8. Any half wit car guy could have told you that and kept this scene from being ruined. "Saying that car has a 4.9L V8 while trying to sound tough is about like someone getting in a f22 raptor and bragging that it can go 55MPH. Just stupid!
