Sure. Pretty much any liquid will do. I'd maybe cut down the amount a bit (heavy cream is only 70% water after all.) It'll just be slightly less luxurious then.

The tiniest bit of oil based purple or blue food dye will get the white (tiny as in, just dip the end of a toothpick in). Idk about type of cake though
