Now listening to this song again, I see that White Diamond is very manipulative towards Steven. Before White Diamond was revealed, this song represented a mother's grief after losing her child, however, when White Diamond was revealed in the new episode Legs From Homeworld, she showed no emotions. White knew about Pink's shattering was a facade to not take responsibility like a child would and thinks her game is silly. White is punishing Pink by letting her see the damage she has does upon many gems who have served in the gem war and presented by all as to whom blame, wether she was Pink, Rose, or even Steven. White acts like she cares while singing the song, but is furthering the confusion of Steven's identity crisis, waiting to seize mind control as the puppet master to their puppet once more.
That's why everyone thought these animatics were so fitting. But then it turned out that White Diamond had pretty much NO bond with her daughters. She never seemed to spend much time with them, and had no hesitation with putting Pink in solitary confinement for acting out, or trying to MIND CONTROL all her daughters.

I honestly I love this version of white and Pink better then the canon versions I really wish they made the relationship between them like mother and daughter as well as not make PD Rose the same gem. White is the protective mother of Yellow, Blue and pink but she’s very protective of Pink. When she heard about pink getting shattered she isolates herself and takes all her anger out on Yellow and Blue for not being there for Pink more by putting them under a lot of pressure and inforcing rules. When she hears about Steven this (the video) happens she can’t bring herself to kill Steven because she saw Pink in him. An innocent child. Steven in shock to see her cry comforts her (because he’s a forgiving cinnamon roll) at first she’s confused and ask him why he was doing it and he says “Everyone deserves comfort.” And she can sense that he wasn’t Rose but her son instead making her cry more and apologize to Steven with him comforting her when Blue and Yellow saw the mistake they made they to apologize in tears for constantly thinking that Steven was Rose and they say Apologies to Pink for not being there when she needed them Steven accepts they’re apologies (with the ghost of Pink) and he is glad to make new friends.
THIS is the White Diamond I wanted, to be honest, someone with feelings and had a close, mother-like relationship to Pink, someone that Steven could really battle against because she's not just good or bad, it's not just black and white and he can't just go "EMPATHYYYY" and this tyrant is suddenly on her knees in front of him. I wanted more of a story and conflicting emotions between White and Steven because it shows kids that not every villain is bad for the sake of the plotline.
No, it didn't end like that lol he got them to see that they mistreated Pink and it's their fault she wanted to leave permanently. He got them to see they fucked up in a lot of ways. Plus, White Diamond was like a mother figure, an abusive mother figure to be exact. All of the Diamonds were abusive towards Pink.
I think you need to watch the episode again, fool. White Diamond wasn't evil just because of the plot, White Diamond thought she wasn't doing anything wrong and Steven needed her to wake up. White and Steven did have conflicting feelings for each other. There's no villains in Steven Universe, all of the villains in the show were just misguided people and were doing what they thought was the right thing to do. The message for children that you're talking about how "Villains aren't just villains for the plot" is what Steven Universe is all about. Pay attention!!!
Steven Universe showed us that there are no real villains in the world and that bad people like Lars or White Diamond can change for the better if they want to.
Sameee this would have been such a full circle moment, pink being Steven’s mom and learning to give her life up for him and seeing white diamond being a sad broken mother without her child would have been incredible

This is honestly really impressive. It makes me think a lot about the dynamic of the diamonds in the show and it's really beautifully done, I just keep watching it over and over.
JasperTheSpirit Andrew Walker-Fire Arrow and she got stil to stand strong, as she is The godness, the empress, the Alpha to The omega. I myself wish she even If given The choice she would not be able to shatter Steven, feeling that It would make her as bad as Rose.
I believe that is why she didn’t go to the trail. She was to hurt to go. She didn’t want to show her weakness to her subjects. She didn’t take it that hard in the beginning but then the longer pink was gone the harder she took it.
Your White Dimond is one of my favorites. She’s so elegant and really well crafted. If we never really see White (I really hope we do) yours is definitely my head cannon.

For me the Best scene are the diamond insignias Era 1: The emblem Is them together according to their height, All 4 together as family portrait. Era 2: Without pink the insignia rotates to triangles, but in this iteration it's because it's the remaining diamonds are devastated trying to cope with their pain. Embracing each other full of grief as White keeps them together.

I'm absolutely mesmerized by this animatic. I love depiction of White Diamond. I always thought of her as the eldest, cold, dictator sister, however, this animatic really changed that for me. A mother who would do anything for her last child. I'm starting to believe that White Diamond truly did love Pink Diamond and was left with no choice but to rid of her, convincing herself it was Rose's fault for Pink's compassion towards Earth. Thus, that leaves Steven with the burden of finishing what Rose began. Absolutely beautiful. You kept the original aesthetic from the series and I love your design of the character. My favorite yet. Beautiful. Congratulations on such a masterpiece.

But a species of alien monsters. Incapable of feeling nothing.

This song fits so well and makes me more curious of the relationship between the diamonds, i haven't kept up with the show for awhile but I already caught wind of the news it will continue in 2018.
Despite White Diamond's design being off the mark (since we only just discovered what her design was until recently, somewhat the same with Pink Diamond) and slight Naruto-esque style I think the story you have here is the best and most powerful I've found here on youtube. Especially the moment where your White Diamond sees Pink cowering right where Steven is and her crying "After all" at the end. It captures the motherly affection I sincerely hope she actually feels in the show.
This White Diamond is SO PERFECT It will likely ruin her reveal for me... A Deified, Resplendent, Empress Warlord! Beautiful and fierce at the same time! Unless they completely blind side us like they did with Pink? I can't see the Crewniverse doing better then this!
This made me think “ what if white diamond shattered pink, but by accident. She then placed the blame on rose and then tries to force herself to believe that rose quartz killed PD.” I’m probably overthinking this.
What if it is Blue diamond? She shattered her by accident trying maybe ti to protect her. Then not being able to bear the situation she had a mental breakdown and lost her memories of the accident. It's a psychological condition that can happen to some people.

I come back to this animatic every so often to just listen and watch and read the comments. Today though I kind of started thinking about how in a “perfect world” (where the show crew weren’t worried about time constraints) how it to make it work so that we got this motherly version of white with actual fleshed our motives while also keeping the “rose is pink” “twist” because I actually kinda liked that. And I kinda was thinking of how pink would go about deciding to start the rebellion and decide to “shatter herself” if white was motherly, I ended up creating in my head a type of scenario that kinda goes off of the actual story of why pink decided that. Though instead of just going to yellow and blue she goes to white first. (I see her not having any issues with this if white is motherly) and her explaining fully why she doesn’t want to continue with the colony, but White doesn’t really understand where she coming from and instead changes the subject onto why pink would go to earths surface in the first place because she could’ve gotten hurt, and pink would bite back about how she isn’t fragile and how she can handle herself and a small argument. Then pink goes to yellow and blue but they don’t understand either and are far to busy with their own colonies to give it a second thought. Pink comes up with excuses but when that doesn’t work she makes the rebellion. Hoping that that’ll work. It doesn’t so she tries to go to white again, and White exasperated tells Pink that she gave up far too much for Pink to have a colony that she BEGGED for and that she needs to finish what she started and doesn’t let pink get a word in before hanging up. She has blue deal with her again and that’s when blue says the “as long as you are there to rule the colony will be completed” and pink shatters herself. Which causes them to ALL feel guilty. That’s just me making up stuff off the top of my head tho lol
I absolutely LOVED this video. Especially when White actually changed from sentimental to manic when she attempted to kill Steven, and the transition was so smooth it was practically flawless. Amazing work, keep it up.
This is such an amazing animatic! I love the sword part you added. In other animatics it just shows her crying the entire time, but in this you really showed the diamond side of her and her battle against her regrets. And I love the how you designed her, I’m really hoping she looks like this in the show. Keep up the good work!! :))
What if the Crystal Gems were attempting to shatter White Diamond but Pink Diamond saved her so now White Diamond constantly blames herself for Pink Diamond's death.

Even after the newer episodes I’d rather go with this lore, white diamond being a perfect mother who lost her child to this little human being is much more fulfilling than white being a whole heartless person whose heartless for about 20 minutes before being shown other life forms and becoming an ‘adorable cinnamon roll’ I love this so much

Ok, i love white diamond and her personality as a villain, but MAN a White diamond who was like a mother for pink and the others diamonds and blame herself and Rose for Pink's death would be so awesome, seeing her looking at Steven and seeing Pink's eyes, like a mother who would do anything to save her child would be amazing! And having her being not able to hurt Steven cause he is just a kid like Pink was, would be the cherry on the top
Seeing everyone's diffferent idea of White's (and Pink's!) design is so much fun. She's gorgeous here, I love the stress/age details as well! 💛 I've heard this so many times and seen the other animatics, but this one nearly brought me to tears. Well done!
What’s funny is after seeing the change your mind, you realize that pink really did grow up and mature into Steven, and Steven grew up, and saved white and the others from the pain they felt
"The past you knew would haunt you, and the regrets you did not show... Might just grow up and save you after all" IS LITERALLY SO GOOD HERE? Because like yeah on one hand White Diamond is talking about herself, like the song implies - in a literal sense, there's the fact that Steven saves the diamonds emotionally, gives them closure, helps them to become better people, etc. But in another way, it almost sounds like she's telling Rose (through Steven) that she's lucky her son reminds White Diamond of Pink - the son that she resides in "grew up and saved her".
In my opinion, white diamond is actually broken from the thought of losing a child and was the most devastated. When she found out that pink was alive, she acted natural on the outside but on the inside, she was thrilled to find her alive. However, if she finds out that pink is gone and all of her was given to Steven, then well, we shall see
Hearing this song in a new context, at least for me, is bittersweet. Nostalgic. So much was different in the show, but more so in the fanbase back then. So much was unknown. My early childhood was almost made of Steven Universe, but my favorite element of it was the complicated story slowly being woven through subtle hints. Back before jungle moon, when even the name pink diamond was a mysterious calling to the fans to speculate. I remember watching this video late at night thinking “if only.” I sometimes miss that element to the show, the theories, especially about the diamonds. And now that things are coming to a close and all the loose threads of the show are being wrapped in a neat little bow, I can only fondly remember the days when I could create my own theories about the story and what would happen next. I miss that. But maybe that’s just me. Here we are in the future I suppose.
Ah, this is beuatiful, it's so amazing to find such a talented animator in the mess of all these videos but wow, I think this is one of the best su animations I've ever seen, you display the emotion so easily it's unreal, I hope I'll see more of your work, I love it!
