Dude I just wanted to say thank you so much!! I used your video only as my go to source for intalling this and it was perfect! I'm very new to everything electrical and with cars and your video made it make sense to me and I was able to do it myself and not pay someone to do it, thank you so much!
If the wires behind the knob don't work use the Fuse box. Use fuse 37, pull the fuse out and connect the red wire around one of the prongs. And for the black wire just connect it to a ground around the fuse box, and that's it hopefully this help someone with the same issue.
Bad advice, you can fuck up all the electronics in the car if you attach to the wrong side of the fuse. Always use a proper fuse tap harness that has an extra fuse rated lower than the fuse you're tapping into, and install it in the right direction (power should flow through the fuse and then to your light).

I came across this vid when repairing the speedometer gears behind the speedometer, and watched it, and decided to order it and do it as long as I had that part out anyway. I drive a 95 GT vert, but it still worked. Thanks so much, very helpful

I recently bought the kit from American Muscle for my v6 & I've been watching this so I can use my stock dimmer & not have the one with the kit hanging out of the dash.
Loved the inlays, made the car so much better to drive around at night. After 7 yrs of being used, my guages gave out and now they won't light up. Wires got brittle, the sun, heat, age, etc. Sucks, I don't see them available anywhere anymore. My son loved them light up as well. I have the nasty green lit cluster, I'm looking at ways to change the look. Have seen that some guys remove the green film and install leds, will try it out.
Very nice Video! I love the inlays. The reason I want to remove mine, is behind the clear lens, it is very dusty and would like to get it cleaned out. It looks like a fairly easy job, however with my disabilities, I think I am going to have to hire someone to do it. While they have it out, I might want to see where I can find those inlays. still a very useful video being used today. i opened the box for my white gauges and was wandering why the hell they added a dimmer switch when i have one already. glad i seen your video before i drilled a hole somewhere for the 2nd dimmer knob. lol that would have been stupid. anyway gread how to video man. thanks for doing it for the lesser intelligent people in the world.
And I know you can tie the two wires together to get your dimmer to work but the aftermarket one has a switch you can switch from two different colors so I don't think you would be able to switch the two different colors with the dimmer correct or ?
Hello Chris, thanks for your quick response. I just hooked up everything as indicated in your video but when I turn on my lights, I do not get the same results. My gauges are not lighting up but all of the indicators (Red Lines) for the speedometer, gas, temp, battery and oil light up. What did I do wrong? Even the odometer, emergency break light, seat belt light works.
so i see the blue/white wire is both power and dimmer. .... my kit came with on/off switch as well as the dimmer, so i cut the end of the switch, taped them, then cut the dimmer and taped them together. seems to work good.
So the wires that go to the dimmer switch, did you mean actually wiring them together copper to copper or just tape them so they aren’t touching each other ?
Really great install video I have already installed mine 4 years back but I never knew about being able to use my dimmer switch knob. That makes so much more sense I'm think I'm going to do that since my dimmer switch is acting up. Do you know if the wiring is the same for a 94 Mustang the blue with white stripe wire?
Looks like after going through the comment section that I'm going to have to research what color it is so far from the comments the closest year for the 98 GT was a blue and red wire. But I'll look it up them post what wire it was for others incase there installing this mod for the 94 Mustang.
Great vid thx! Anyone else having problems with tach and speedo sticking when going down? Also lights didn’t work I had to mess with ground to get them to work.
I didn't realize that they were supposed to go over I thought they were supposed to replace the old ones so I just took the old ones off now I'm having to glue everything back on
Is it necessary to glue them? I had someone put mine on in early 2000s and they didn't glue them on and now I'm doing another car it's been sitting the cluster Gates been sitting for shit since 2015 actually And I've had it out a few times checking the that little stepper motor on the back and everything and stuff and so are you over the years I've never glued it or anything and they were fine but diagnosing and testing some things yesterday and checking the needles and stuff yeah they wants to move some of course LOL
this is a great video I watch twice before attempting my install. However mine didn't turn out like yours. When I finished the setup and connectors it didn't light up at all, any advice?
+dwayne childs Sounds like your not getting power , make sure your ground wire is good and the red wire is connected well on the blue wire with the white stripe . Make sure your dimmer is turned all the way up.
hey awesome video man. i just bought these. question though... do the lights appear more blue in person vs the video? they kinda look a greenish in the video
I am planning on doing this mod tomorrow. If I do the wiring the way you did, with cutting off the supplied dimmer and taping them up, will the stock dimmer work?

+CHRIS10077 So i did this and the new gauges are not lighting up, but the light for the old gauges are on and the are able to be dimmed. How come my new gauge lights won't turn on?
+Chris Malone Okay I don't know the year mustang your installing the gauge inlay in, the example in the video is a 2004 .From what I understand earlier years may have a different color wire at the light switch for the dimmer. The only advice I can give is check your connections again and make sure your ground has a good connection.
So, I'm assuming the blue/white wire is coming directly from the stock dimmer switch, is that correct? And so the circuit goes from dimmer switch power, through the new gauge panels to ground, thereby, bypassing that little after-market dimmer switch, correct? I talked to an AM tech and he was reluctant to help me with that part of the install. He probably can't recommend doing that since the part is from a third party. Anyway, I'm going to be doing this same install on a '98 GT. Any idea if the blue/white wire on it would be the same? The last thing i want to be doing is drilling a hole in my dash for that little dimmer switch. Great video!
+73challenger5031 lol shit i looked in that manual for a hour and couldnt find it! All i did was i hooked everything up and took the red wire and stuck in each hole for every wire until the dash lite up, prolly a lil sketchy but it worked haha!
The two wires from the included dimmer knob that I cut off ,I just twisted together and black taped the other hot wire that goes to the switch I used a razor knife to bare the wire then soldered it.
confused on how u actually wired it in because the video skips it, do u put the black wire behind the screw? can i juss wire the red wire into the blue and white one using a wire nut?
awesome vid Chris. do you think it would be ok to remove all the stock yellowish bulbs in my cluster, just so they won't interfere with this new cluster lighting or do i need to have them in for proper function? thanks
I don't think that it would interfere with it's function but I personally wouldn't go through the trouble . Thank you for watching and thanks for the compliment .
The bulbs are not going to interfere with the reverse glow at all. The material is way to thick for the light to even show at all. I found that out when I used the dimmer switch. I didn't have mine hooked up like how it is in this video. So i'm able to dim the reverse gage to nothing and it was just black and couldnt see anything light up besides the needles for the gauges.

Hello Chris, I just picked up a 2003 GT. As for the aftermarket dimmer switch that you cut off, are you suppose to connect those two wires together, or just tape them together and make sure that the ends do not touch?
Vincent Holmes just use a fuse tap and get power directly from the fuse box. Look in your owners manual and look for fuse 36 i think or illumination switch fuse should be a 10amp fuse(thats the circuit for the dimmer switch knob that controls the brightness) i forgot how i did it but its way easier than trying to solder that tiny 22 gauge wire to a freaking 14G plus you dont have to cut anything. You keep all your wiring harnesses intact :) they sell them at oriellys goodluck!!
ok , can i just clarify with you something about the wiring ?....you cut off their dimmer switch , attached those two wires together ,,,then took the other two black and red wires went to black ground , and red to dimmer switch wire ?
I put these on my '99 Mustang. I like the look but mostly they help me to better / quicker read the gauges at night. Like many guys, I have a problem seeing the Red needles on the black background of the stock package. Thanks for the video. The mod instructions are .. umm.. not great.
Your welcome I installed for the very same reason. I have a 06 Dodge truck that has gauges that are white and I like them because I can read them better.
What did you do with the dimmer switch wires that you took off the provided dimmer switch and twisted together? Do they hook somewhere or are they not used once twisted together?

Oh, also, what effect, if any, do the stock cluster lights have? I was thinking of putting in blue LED's while I was in there but, it looks like the stock(green) lights don't affect the gauges' bluish hue, is that correct?
I took a 12v tester, hook to ground, with nothing on look for one that does not light up, turn on parking lights only, if light comes on, thats it. The first time i hooked to the headlights and they would not come on in the parking light position
I tried hooking it up from what American muscle told me the gray wire and something went wrong idk what wire disconnected or goes where but I have no headlights or high beams someone help plz

Fuse box is located on the drivers side under the dash . Yes What I did was cut the dimmer that came with the kit off and twisted those two wires together and black taped them , connected the red wire to the blue and white striped wire at the light switch and connected the black ground to the bolt just behind the instrument panel.
‼️For some you you like myself, I took off my old and replaced it since it’s a different module which look much better than overlapping the old, do more research on the one your looking to buy‼️
Lol i ordered one of these from American muscle and the middle inlay for speedo and tac have the wire in the wronge spot! I see yours is on the the top they put mine on the side so it runs through the middle of the cluster! Ridiculous
+Maze Love The wiring is really simple if you purchase the gauge inlays from american muscle just cut off the dimmer knob that come with the inlays and twist those two wires together and use black electrical tape to insulate them then you only have two wires to deal with the black wire and red wire ,the red wire will connect to the blue wire with the white stripe coming out of the light switch harness and the black wire connects to the screw behind the instrument panel as shown at the end of the video. Then it is just matter of plugging in the connections from the inlay to the connections from the power transformer that are part of the red and black wire as stated previously.
This is an awesome video except for the fact that you skip over the wiring part, which is the section you needed to spend the most time on. I get that its "easy" but if you are making a step by step vid, why skip over the most important part? Judging by the questions tn the comment section, i'm not alone with this. (Just annoyed because it was awesome until that wiring part)
