​@Cazammaf he does it solely for videos. It's flexing and not genuine positivity and appreciating other cultures. Several of his videos feature people visibly annoyed he's an American shoving his camera phone in their face while he talks at them in their own language.

Language learning has next to nothing to do with Intelligence. You can learn a language too if you want. It's just extremely hard work. You can learn 10 if you have the time and are motivated. But very few people are.

@@eliasvonbrille there are some people who absorb languages like a sponge. Most adults will never “properly” speak a new language and instead speak it with a pronounced accent and often make certain grammatical errors. Learning a language is very very hard for the adult brain so it requires a natural aptitude to be a polyglot like he is.

@@hansstrudel9614 If you have learned 10 Languages you will naturally become a lot better at it. If you learn a language a lot you will naturally become a lot better at it. If you learn the language correctly you will naturally be even more efficient. Don't make excuses why you couldn't possibly do this. Everybody can be a polygot. It's just an ungodly amount of work.

It also shows the arrogance of allot of cultures, like why do they all think their language is so hard to learn? We literally teach languages to children

@@donk6765 because chinese and other languages that use symbols instead of letters are some of the hardest languages to learn for a native English speaker? To the point the US government ranks languages in difficulty to dictate how long you should spend learning a language. Children are forced to learn and don't have a choice, which is why we have the term native. I'm guessing you're also a child lmao

@@unknownmasterq I started learning because my boyfriend at the time was from Portugal, I ended up becoming interested and learning on my own after we broke up. I'm not very good, but it's amazing how even a little can bridge gaps between people.

It's because of his accent. Someone learning chinese from second hand material in the middle of Nebraska will sound much different compared to someone that learned it conversing with people in the country of origin. His accent is apparently so good when speaking chinese that he sounds like he spent a lot of time there.

Oh yeah because of course you can just learn Mandarin from home by watching dramas right ? He's asking because he can tell Xiaoma has a very specific accent (from Beijing, since that's where he's learned Mandarin). The thing with you guys, English speakers, is that you take for granted many things like, you know, people speaking your language. But exposure to Mandarin isn't really an easy thing, like English is for most of us in occident. Which is why right now, you probably don't give a shit about me writing in English despite the fact that it isn't my native language, because it's not a big deal. But for Chinese/Japanese/Korean, it's always an amazing surprise to hear someone speaking their language. Because when you learn a language, you learn a lot about the culture as well. Which isn't necessarily true in English, since it's some kind of a "basic international" language anyone can speak without any proper knowledge of the UK, US, Australia or whatever. When you know that, it makes more sense why they're so surprised and happy most of the time.

It’s a reasonable question. You’ll always get asked when you’re speaking another language. Of course we know what resources are out there but I think people are more curious as to WHICH resource was utilized.
