I've been watching his videos for awhile now, and as a half-Han Chinese Hong Konger, I think he's just gotten really arrogant and just constantly showing his ego. Maybe the first few times he pretended to not know Mandarin was funny, but now it's like he's doing it for the boost in self-esteem, and it's not funny anymore. Sure, he knows Mandarin better than me (my native language is Cantonese, and since I've only lived in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong, never really had to use Mandarin much and when I graduated I stopped using it entirely), but so what? I learned English relatively fluently, and I never flex about it. More people know two languages than not, is it just you Americans that get shocked by it?

@@yargnaurd - Just being a smart-butt. I had to learn Spanish in elementary because we lived in a Spanish-speaking country for a short time for my father's work. I struggled with picking up the language and was more interested in playing outside, drawing, etc. However, a couple years back I had to learn Greek for some class electives in college and thought I was not smart enough due to my past struggles. Well, it was easier than thought. I was able to read, write, etc. Stupid easy these days with RU-vid to pick up a second language.

i don't know, it could also be that he is speaking properly, as in not using alot of slang and things as native speakers of any language tend to do. i've met a couple of Europeans who 100% spoke better english than i generally do, only thing that tends to give them away is accent. i mean just how often do you misuse "then" and "Than" in conversation?

Also it doesn't have to be like 2 cm from the computer, create an atmosphere that would make you think he is asian, maybe also a hat or some of his t shirts with Chinese words one, create the situation to make it even more hard to believe that the person behind the sunglasses in not Asian. they are definitely either from Indonesia or Filipinos, natives can tell natives apart. Only the girl at 2:25 and 6:15 are Chinese, the others are Indonesian or Filipinos, it's very easy to tell if you're an Asian. Most of them are probably migrant workers.

That guy's Indonesian or Malay.. He doesn't look Chinese at all. Probably one of the foreign workers from Southeast Asia to China. He seems to understand basic Chinese words but his accent sounds very foreign and he has trouble forming coherent phrases or sentences in Mandarin. He was probably surprised just to see another foreigner who can speak very fluently.
