Well some a lot do but when i say i have to wake up at 5:30 and need atleast an hour to do my hair for school at 7 i mean it bc ill have something in mind then ill have to change it vc i had to prepare the night before. Maryam Rodgers I am white, that is true, but the thing is I have kinky curly hair and it took me years to figure out how to deal with it... and my hair tends to get so dry and ends break so easily and straightening them takes literally hours (that is probably the reason I don't do that often) and the hairstylist have no clue how to deal with it as I live in a country where 99% of people are white

Im biracial and my mom learned to do my sister and my hair like a pro! I have friends whose moms are white and she can braid 2-4c hair amazingly and I have some black family members that can’t do cornrow and can’t handle natural hair.. it’s a “stereotype” just like ALL stereotypes! If you take the time to get familiar with different hair types & textures you can master it! That goes for EVERYTHING that people have linked to a specific race be it good or bad.. real people break those stereotypes down everyday and that what we need to focus on. Some people got mad about this video but it wasn’t a bad assumption it was something that a person that isn’t black or not surrounded by would automatically know how to do.. it takes learning and the amazing ones with God given talent💜💜💜 All in all we need to knock down and get rid of ALL stereotypes

Can’t wait for the day! Because since the beginning of time it seems like it hair stylist who happen to be white seem hesitant to touch kinky and curly hair. Or try half way through then say they can’t do it, burn/rip your hair out or go run for their other coworker whose black or latina to help them. Hair schools need to start making it an requirement to be able to do all types of hair. If not, start paying people less based on their skill set.

It’s about cosmetology education. When I was in school they briefly touched on ethnic hair and the teacher explained you need special schooling to truly work with that type of hair. It has NOTHING to do with race and EVERYTHING to do with education and skill.

Here's the thing. Black people aren't born knowing how to do their hair and white people aren't born knowing how to do their own hair either. As you grow up you become familiar with it and learn what works for you. A hairdresser generally specializes in a certain type of hair, though they can generally do all types. So a white person can do black hair if they get enough practice however a black person would likely be better since they have more experience personally and vice versa.

This seriously kinda bothers me... I’m white. I grew up watching my black friends do hair. Them doing my hair. Teaching me to do their hair. And now I do hair! I’ve put in weave. Box braids, cornrows, any type of style people ask me to do, I try it. I braid super tight and love doing hair. I had a friend who would come from out of state to have me do his hair, because he believed in my ability to work with his hair. It really isn’t about skin color... it’s about your technique and skill. I don’t think it’s fair to assume all white people cant do black peoples hair. 🤷‍♀️ if you study something enough, you can learn how it’s done. That goes for anything, including hair.

Your wording is kind of one sided defensive, I can't really argue against it because it's enveloped in truth. So I'll just piggyback off of it. Generally speaking there are a lot of different textures and characteristics in hair. Different races have a more common type of hair, but obviously there's no absolutes in humans. Also, there is a huge difference between a hair stylist and a barber; a black barber and a non black barber; a black stylist and a non black stylist. Like in every field you're going to specialize in your intended or interested clientele's hair type. I have thin straight hair and have had my hair jacked up by the above variations, I've also had the best haircut done by some of the above variations. In conclusion, there is no thing as "just human hair".

Although that would be ideal, most stylists only learn how to style hair above 3c. This is a dumb stereotype to debunk though because black people know if you go to a black barber shop, regardless of the barber's skin color they're there to cut/style black hair. They never stated that "white people can't do black people hair," at all. If you actually watch the video they did say that they believe that white people can do black people hair and they can learn how to. And if you watch at the end, a white person did all the "contestants" (I guess you can say) It turned out good and they were impressed. All of those who are offended probably never came close to a black person's hair. The majority, (I know there's some people who have naturally straight hair) of them have super course, thick and curly hair. That hair type is completely different to a white person's hair. Yes, there are white people with curly hair but that hair type is still different from black people hair. And the reason why they made this video is because sometimes white hairdressers are ignorant to black people hair and don't know how to work their way around it and they don't know that treating black people hair is different than white people hair.

It's not a bad thing, they're just not interested in learning a different texture than their own. We use different products, tools, and styling techniques. Most people aren't trained to do all types which is why Black Hairstyling developed the way it has. It's one of the reason there is a separate market. White people can learn but it would take a conscious effort to do so. Odds are you're going to practice your technique on people you know which is more than likely going to be people from your own demographic. It's not malicious so much as oblivious. People who sit outside the mainstream will always have to do more to get their needs met. Try buying make-up for dark skin tones in Japan. Again it's not malice but if it's not something you use you probably don't think you need to have it.

yes I know where you are coming from, but not all white hair is straight. There are a lot of different types of hair coming from many different races, even if their skin is fair.

Willow Burger I agree with you. Doing hair has nothing to do with skin color and yes, people do have different hair textures but that doesn't mean they can't do others hair. It depends on the stylist you go to. I don't doubt people have gone in and it became a disaster because of their lack of experience but it's wrong to say an entire race can't do a type of hair because they're "inexperienced". Racism goes both ways and this video was very racist towards whites. Some of the following comments continue to prove my point, that being whites are discriminated too.

Ogre Doug really, so what your saying is, most white people know how to cut black peoples hair? I could walk up to almost any white person and they could give me a fade and they would know that I use pomade and a doorag for waves? And they know to cut with the grain on waves? I Highly doubt it. Them using the same person on each head. Let alone a specialist. Isn't representative of most white people. Gtfooh! As a matter of fact walk up to the next 5 random people from a different race and with different texture hair and ask them to cut and style. I Bet you would think twice. Do what thou wilt Always. Do you know how to do white people's hair? No I highly doubt it, yet if you specialized in all types of hairstyles you could easily fool people if the same test were conducted using black hairstylists and white hair. The rules are the same for everybody. Like anything else in life you learn by doing, keep practicing and you'll get good at it.

It has nothing to do with race lol, just because you’re not used to working with a certain type of hair doesn’t mean you can’t learn. Like? Can't relate. I don't find it racist, stereotypical ? Most definitely, that's why it's called "is it true?". I'm a white girl & ADD makes some funny ass videos, their jokes can get a little out of hand (especially because of the fact that if it was a white person saying it people would want to bitch at em) but for the most part, idc only because I don't take everything to heart. Living in a very, very diverse town has probably taught me that but I mean shit, I talk trash about my own people a lot so maybe that's why. Just my opinion though :)
