In this video I go over the White Pine and it's identification features as well as it's uses. The White Pine is one of the supermarkets of the forest. Providing everything from food, tea, medicine, glue, wood, and more this tree is certainly a one stop shop if you are stuck out there with nothing.
The needles of White Pine can be used to make tea that is up to 6 times higher in vitamin C than orange juice. The inner white bark of the tree can be eaten as is or dried and ground to a flour extender. The young male cones are useful when boiled as a vegetable and when the cones mature they often bring Pine nuts with them.
In a pinch for some glue? The Pine tree has you covered with it's sticky sap. Combine this sap with charcoal and dried grass to make pitch glue, or use it off the tree as an anti septic for cuts and scrapes. The uses of this tree are many and this video does not cover them all, however I have focused on the most pertinent ones.
I thank you guys for watching this video and I hope you learned something!

These pine trees are so common in my area, and they grow so very tall. Eastern white pine. They are such beautiful and amazing trees with so many uses. All kinds of evergreen teas are so delicious.

Yes, and i found a website yesterday where you can buy white pine needles.. $25.00 an order. Also, what has been found to help against the spike protein is NAC along with Bromelain. You can get NAC still online...but hurry as the FDA wants to pull it off the market and make it 'perscription only"

Whats the best way to know if a pine isnt the right type for tea? another video said there are 3 pines that are toxic. can you shed light on which pines those are and how I would identify it?
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 7 лет назад
There's more than three that could cause harm to humans but mainly the Yew, Ponderosa Pine, and the Australian Pine are the presumed three he was speaking of. There are a few others and to talk about them all here would take too much space unfortunately. But some others to avoid are the common juniper, or most junipers for that matter for internal ingestion, Monterey Cypress, and Lodgepole pine. The best Pine for tea is the White Pine as it is the longest used throughout history and the most studied by modern scientist and nutritionists. I hope this helps a bit and gives you an idea of some trees to research. I don't have most of those in my range where I live so I couldn't do a video on them unfortunately:( Thanks for asking LK!

Have you made the bark flour? What is the best method for grinding it?
@TrilliumWildEdibles
@TrilliumWildEdibles 7 лет назад
I have not made the bark flour myself as of yet, but have seen it done. Dry the bark just like you would any other bark for drying. Then for grinding, anything from a mortar and pestle up to a budget flour mill. At home though a good clean coffee grinder will work for flour, and for meal a blender on the finest setting will work. Just grind until you have reached the consistency you desire. Then store in a glass jar and your done. I hope this has helped and I thank you for commenting Oxbow!

Are you in the northern U.S? I'm about to forage for some, hoping it's not too early to get some good quality needles for tea. I want to make an infused oil for skin oil/perfume too. I love the smell...but used the wrong pine previously and it smelled like pine-sol.
@TrilliumWildEdibles

I'm in central Indiana, so kind of. Where I'm at the Pine needles are great for that right now, so depending on where you are it shouldn't be long. Ohhh, yeah doesn't surprise me. Some pines are used to make all kinds of crazy things from turpentine to pine sol. Thankfully white pine smells good all year long, good luck and thanks for commenting!

How do you put pine pitch on a wound? Wouldn’t it need to be heated up to its melting point? Ouch.

I helped a man who needed 168 stitches to his head and wouldnt go to doc. He knew what to do and guided me. After many many very hot compresses I was sent to find a young doug fir with little sap bumps on the bark. Carved out a bump without opening it. Took it to the man with the wounds. Opened the capsulated sap directly into the wound and watched the wound close up before my eyes. 2 weeks later you couldnt tell there had been a wound.
