@Adderon great comparison! I remember seeing the Motivation Music video back in 2005 or 2006. I thought Delta Spirit would be huge. There were so many of those early indie 2000s bands that couldn't figure out how to break out. The main difference with White Reaper is, theres not that many bands like them, compared to the rock rival indie boom of the early 2000s. Some people say, "they're generic." But that's over-simplify. They channel sounds from 70s power pop, 90s alternative and early 2000s bands on a way that they sound familiar, not generic. It reminds me of Free Energy's "Stuck on Nothing." Imo, that's one of the greatest power pop albums of the last 30 years. Yeah, Free Energy's follow-up album is missed in a big way. But i think they were also oversimplified as generic by music critics. It was misrepresented because of its familiarity with other great bands.
it's basically power-pop, which is a subgenre which has featured some of the catchiest, most satisfying rock music ever but for some strange reason hasn't produced tons of real big hits.
It’s because the production on power pop lacks an authenticity vibe. It’s slickly produced. Layered vocals, perfect harmonies. Imagine a late 70s Tom Petty production level, and I think they might resonate with more people.
What a hidden gem in this day and age, just two guitars keyboard, bass and drums..no computers, auto tune ect..it’s like the late 90’s early 2000’, back when we still had real music. Bands like these are hard to find over the past 15-20 years.
Whilst I agree with you here about music like this being hard to find today, I hate to burst your bubble, but auto tune is used on everything you listen to music wise. I used to record a ton, had 2 bands signed to some pretty big indie labels back in the early 2000’s. Every singer, band, and album uses auto tune. No one is ever 100% on pitch with their vocals unless you’re Celine Deon or Mariah Carrey, and even they use it. But Cher introduced using auto tune where they pitch the vocals up and down and gives that stupid effect that I assume you’re talking about. And plenty of bands back then also used computers to play backing tracks and click tracks to keep on time live. Just because you use these things doesn’t mean you’re not real musicians. Sorry for the long reply, no way to say it in a short sentence.
You don’t have to apologize for your response being long, just being asinine. I’m not talking about using auto tune to edit and produce the music. I’m referring to individual artist whom just use computers to generate their music. They provide the vocals there is no actual real music being played with their lyrics. Every song uses auto tune to some extent but a lot of modern music is just computer generated. You missed the point I was conveying.
Heard this on the radio. It seemed so familiar like an early 2000 classic. Looked it up to be shocked its from 2022 and less than 1M views. This song definitely deserves at least 10M its so good
God I LOVE playing my violin 🎻 to this masterpiece while it's blasted on my speakers 🇬🇧🇺🇲🇨🇦it has such a posh American/ Brit Canadian vibe and I'm so here for it!! My fiance loves it while we're driving through the western Oregon country side 🏳️🌈
Lyrics I took a walk back then I had a moment thinking how it's been Between you and me, my dear And we can make it for another year I guess maybe I don't care I wrote it in my diary And all my word is true I even tore out all the pages about you And now I pass 'em out To every stranger on the street that walks on by So I can move along And maybe sleep tonight without me wondering Why are things so complicated? Sensitive and intricate I can't wake up, now I'm feeling petty So I tore them all out And things are colder here Another night that I can walk into alone It makes so much sense The kind of weather you can feel it in your bones And now I'm cracking a smile To every stranger on the street that walks on by So I can move along I get to bed tonight without me wondering Why were things so complicated Sensitive and intricate I can't believe how long I've waited I can't believe how long I've waited I tore out all the pages I tore out all the pages I tore out all the pages I tore them all out I tore them all out I tore them all out
I'm early Gen X and this is a welcome bit of modern rock that will make it into my rotation while working out. I wish these guys the greatest of good fortune.
Mid gen x'er here myself (born in 78) and the first time I heard this song it made me think of Nirvana and early Blue album Weezer. Great fuckin cut for sure.
Been on replay since it dropped. Simply love listening to your stuff and it always gets me hyped, especially before gigs. Probably my favorite band right now. It’s got a perfect mix of tidiness and chaos, rawness with pop sensibility…to top it off you have the catchy melody and lyrics. Everything is on point. It all adds up to produce that classic, undeniable White Reaper energy. We’re all very lucky as rock fans to have such an awesome band around. A joy to hear and see a new song with accompanying video. Stoked for this album!
This song is so good I’m going to have it played at my funeral as my final statement. Which I hope is a long time from now, but whatever. God, what a song.
The coolest thing is that I don't quite get why it's cool, it just is. Thanks to my local station 92.5 The River in Boston area for picking up on you guys, a very welcome addition to the scene!
Oh.. HELL yeah!..... Absolutely love this band. I didn't even realize they had a new song out... was pleasantly surprised. The last album was so good, I was almost afraid to click on this, dreading that the new stuff wouldn't measure up ( like so many other bands lately, unfortunately). Well, sounds like my fears are totally unfounded! Wow, what a GREAT song.. If this is any indication, this new album might be even better .. 🙂 I can't wait
Saw you guys playing with Pearl Jam in London. PJ were amazing but you guys stole the show , best band of the weekend , have been waiting on new music since then.
Been hearing this on the radio. Been cranking it up. Couldn't for the life of me find the name/band. I went to my radio stations Playlist when I got home and went to the time frame and finally found it ! This brings back 2004-2007 high school year!
I turned 60 this past year. I guess I'm officially an old man now. I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and Rush...among others. (Played drums in a band you've never heard of) Anyway... I fucking LOVE this song. There's something about the combination of musicianship, energy, and simplistically honest lyrics that shoots this song into that timeless universe of great songs. Also...harmonizing in rock songs is a lost and precious art. And when it's done well, it's a gift from the gods. Have I mentioned I fucking LOVE this song? I've listened to it 8 times in the past half hour. The energy reminds me a little of the The Romantics. It's also slightly reminiscent of Third Eye Blind. But it's definitely original. Fucking love this song.
Just incredible! White reaper is so talented and I play their songs all day while I work. Their songs are so catchy and I find myself humming this one all day long. Thanks for putting out all these bangers. Love you guys!
